Let's say that there was an actual scientific find that seemed to verify the past century's worth of claims. After which, there was a socially unified effort to find a specimen and a public endorsed bounty was placed on finding that specimen dead or alive.

Would that change your vote?

Yep, and hang him on the wall :what:, any1 know any good taxidermists? After all it was in self defense...:uhoh:

Nah, I'd like to give him a meatlovers pizza with extra cheese, and just watch him dig into it. Then throw him a big bottle of A&W rootbeer.
Welcome to civilization stinky man...

I have actually worked up a 45-70 and 416 Taylor load for just such a situation.

Kinda thought it out...semi-thick hide, but don't want full penetration so I went with 416 Hornady 400 gr. RN Interlocks at about 2200 fps and a 45-70 350 gr FP Hornady at about 1500 fps.

Either would make a very sufficient wound channel and should be easy to track the trail. :)

Still need to work up a 30-30 load though just in case...

So yeah...I would shoot it and get it over with.

Hypothetical question........
My answer: Not having a permit to
shoot Mr/Mrs Bigfoot.... I let him/her walk.

I believe Texas considers Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) to be varmints, so just a basic hunting license will do for me. :D No tags required, no bag limits, and any legal hunting method will be acceptable. Kind of like coyotes. I would say smarter, but yotes are pretty smart themselves.

I wonder if Bigfoot would respond to a distress call and come charging in at night? I wonder what his eyes look like under the red light? Bright and narrow like a fox? Wide and dim like a curious deer?

I definitely couldn't use a .223 with 60 gr VMax though. I'm thinking your basic .30 cal will do. Any .308, .30-06, etc with a good bullet. They can't weigh more than 350 or 400, right? That's like a ginormous mule deer or a small elk, I think.

Or, maybe I'd pop him in the buttocks with a Crossman 760 pumped up way past the 10 pump limit. That'll break the skin or put an eye out.

This thread is starting to remind me of the "What caliber for Moa" thread just no pics. (I don't have time to dig it up, but it was hilarious.)
