Imagine the most uber-liberal gun grabbing politician you can. Now let's say you're transported to LA Riots part 2 and it's ten times crazier than the first time. Let's also say you have a closet full of loaded AR15's. If the gun grabber came to your door and needed to borrow one of your AR's, and somehow you KNEW that it will be used safely and without it he would be killed, would you let him/her borrow your gun? Or would you let them die?

I know what I would do

Not a shining example for your very first post. Some people might think you're trolling.

Not me though!

I think not. Some thoughts why as they come to me.
#1. Such a person is not likely to know how to use a weapon.
#2. If they do use it, and do something illegal, who do you suppose the authorities will come after, you or the politician?
#3. They should have had a weapon to begin with.
#4. I wouldn't loan a gun to someone I didn't know.
#5. I don't know any gun grabbing politicians.
#6. If I had a closet full of AR's, I would sell them to panic stricken Californians, come back to Texas and buy more guns.
No more now, maybe later.

I hope not

I posted quite a bit on thefiringline.com under the same name, didn't mean to come off as a weirdo first time out. :uhoh:

I'd send out a patrol to pick up his relatives. No one is taking my gear unless he/she is a friend. I willoffer the protection of my home! Tank goodness I don't live in LA though!!!

WHAT closet full of AR's? i know notheen, i zee notheen!

i wouldnt loan anything. have them bring their family to my place and we'll go on defense together.

This sort of thing apparently happened during the LA riots.

Uber liberals were furious when they tried to purchase firearms during and right after the riots. They didn't like the fact that there was at the time a 15-day waiting period.

There are any number of sayings that would cover this situation.

Being hoisted by your own petard is one.

There's also a highly applicable quote by Benjamin Franklin from his will, talking about what he was leaving to his son William, who had remained loyal to the British Crown.

"The part he acted against me in the late war, which is of public notoriety, will account for my leaving him no more of an estate he endeavoured to deprive me of."

Certainly an understandable sentiment.

Close the door in his face and smile, just like he'd have his armed guards to me should i show up at his compound.

Nothing....my wife, my guns, and my tools I do NOT
loan out. I might offer shelter if I were convinced of a true need...speculative needs are not true, ipso facto. Seems like he would be in a situation of his own making.

If that very unlikely event were to happen, I bet we'd every one of us let the guy into our home and let him benefit from our protection.

That's what makes US different from THEM.

Another thing that makes us different: if one of us were the guy with no gun who was protected by a gun owner, WE'D learn something from it! Unfortunately, the liberal would leave our home after it was safe and continue to try and take our freedoms away.

If they could think, they wouldn't be what they are.

I would help them with as much courtesy as I would help any other human being. Which means that if I don't know them like my own family, I won't let them borrow a gun from me. I would help out though, but I would demand an apology before I did anything.

This scenarios is just flawed. No one is going to loan out their guns to some stranger in a riot. I would arm any and all of my neighbors who are not already armed. Some wacko politician? Not unless he was a neighbor and we were all working for the common defense of our homes.

Which brings up a good point in my mind. Most of my firearms are in the parent's safe (I bought the safe, but when I moved they bought it from me). I won't be able to equip the neighborhood in the case of civil unrest unless I make a 20 mile round trip and back. Man I need to fix this problem.

I actually thought about this a year or so ago. My FiL is (was) a mild anti. They were visiting us in early Sept. 2001 (key point and date). At the time we had just moved and were in the process of selling house #1. I had taken him over to see house #1 and show him around, this was on 9/10/01. While there we were charged by the neighbor's pit bull. She never came closer than 50' but he was edging towards the car. After she was done barking at us (something she had done many time so I really wasn't too worried) and went home, he asked me why I didn't look too worried. I told him that I had some hidden fangs and left it at that. Being from CA the possibility of CCW probably never entered his head.

The next day the entire world changed.

They stayed with us for a while (they had driven their motor home across the country in Aug), and then when things seemed to have calmed down a bit they decided to head for home. Given the situation at the time and the fact that nobody knew what was going to happen next, I gave him a key to the gun safe and instructions on how to work the revolvers that were in there (simple and easy to use. There were better things for defense in there but the learning curve would be too steep for the moment).

He has since come around (or at least as much as can be expected for someone who went to Berkely in the 60's  ).

Had this actually happen

This actually happened to me in early 1960's. Anti gun neighbor(good guy otherwise) had life threatened. Knocked on my door at 2:00 AM. Asked to borrow a gun. Said police told him that was his best option since they could do nothing until BG acted. Since neighbor was exmilitary and knew how to handle a gun, and it was legal to loan guns where I lived. I loaned him a S&W model 10 and a box of ammo. A week later I was at his house and found out he had the unloaded gun buried in the hall closet and the ammo hidden someplace else. I told since he couldn't protect himself with it that way I would take it back. He was better off with his ball bat. At least it was loaded and accessable.

No..I would not loan him a gun, but I would sell it to him for $1.

But only after...

1. He fills out the BATF forms.
2. I make a call to the Instant Check System and he is approved.
3. He waits the mandatory waiting period before obtaining the weapon.
4. I inform him after the waiting period that I cannot sell nor transfer a grandfathered AR15 in California and refund his money.

Oh well. I hear wrist rockets are on sale at Walmart. Perhaps if you hurry can you get one.

As has been said by others here, I don't loan out my guns. Period.

If someone was in need of protection from a real threat, I'd do the best I could, within reason, to help them. For me, the loaning of guns is wrong, on many different levels.

Then again, depending on who he was, I might just let him have an unloaded gun, tell him it was "ready to go" and send him on his way. ;)
