I don't know what to say except that shes incredibly intelligent. She didn't hessitate to hand over cash when she believed her life was safe by doing so. And once she was told to go over to him, she made the concious decision to pull and fire.

I've always told my sister/mom loved ones to never go anywhere with a criminal. The reason being is that they want to do something to you that they can't do at that location. Usually it is worse and you will end up dead.

I'm also amazed that she drew and fire almost instantly. Considering it was her first time firing a gun i tihnk thats amazing. She had the right mentality.

You guys should browse around that site for more videos.

That's a great video. Too bad there isn't a bit more of it -- I'd have liked to have heard the full interview.

That's an incredible video, thanks for the link.

All I could think of was

"Don't bring a loaded finger to a gunfight"

Why are we applauding this? Here are some of the horribly mistakes she made: She didn't shoot from the weaver postion and in fact point-shot, she wasn't wearing a stitch of tactical gear, she drew the gun from a drawer, that revolver clearly didn't have a light or a laser on it, and since she had never fired a gun, it's safe to say that she had never attended any Thunder Ranch or Gunsite classes. Also, I don't know how she was able to do anything to that man without a 1911.

Joking aside, this is why I personally preach that mindset is the most important factor in self defense. She knew that it was him or her, and she knew it wasn't going to be her. All the training in the world wouldn't have made that scenario work out any better for her, and it's all because when she came to that point where it was "shoot or no shoot", she shot. Mindset, mindset, mindset.

Amazing Presence of Mind

Most folk that I know would freeze in that scenario.

This gal was able to reach a valid surmise of the outcomes and act rationally under pressure.

If that's my store, she's employee of the month and my new staff training officer.

"So, hey, Maggie, I think it's time we moved you to salary with beneifts. And here's a reservation and ticket to Gunsite, where you'll receive training. Then you'll train everyone else."

the only wrong thing with that is...

that she worried about cops going after her!
no law obiding human being should fear prosecution after being threatened and acting in self defense. i don't care if a guy had a gun or not. take my wife for example, 5'2" 100lbs, the ONLY defense she has is a gun, no matter if the attacker is armed or not. after all rape and murder were not invented with the introduction of guns. people raped and murdered just as much in ancient rome as they do now. guns or not. no one should fear prosecution when acting in defense of life.

Frankly, I think that most armed citizens ARE more afraid of the cops than the criminals!

And that sure IS a sorry state of affairs in this country.

It is unfortunate, but a reality of life.

Thanks to the lawyers in this country. No law abideing human should fear prosecution, but WE DO!

Im not real keen on the commentator talking about how She might be in trouble now because she shot an unarmed man.
Yeah, that sounded really stupid. But it appeared to be targeted toward a tabloid-type audience (even on Court TV).

The video...

...makes it seem like the had no idea if the gun was loaded or in working order. "She drew a gun from a drawer where she knew one to be kept..." or something like that. Plus this is her first time firing any kind of weapon. What if she had drawn and found that the weapon was not loaded or worse, was loaded but not in working order because the shop owner had put it there in 1955? What if she had drawn and the man had had a gun in his coat? She would have been blown before she could even blink.
All paternal concerns aside, props to her for doing a great job and protecting her property and body. I hope that when the SHTF I can do just as well if not better.

Yeah! Clean up the Gene pool!

Good for her. Thugs take notice. Big Mama's in town, and she's packin!

Updates on whether she faces charges would be nice.

Did this guy die from the gunshot wound?

She held steady. Only fired once. She could have panicked and emptied into him. She did well.

Bravo

Had she shot him again, I think she would have been in trouble. Bravo to the store owner for providing their clerks with a means of self defense. We need more businesses with that operating mentality.

I had a friend who worked in a 7-11 in our college years and his employer had a revolver in the about the same location relative to the cash box. Thankfully, he never had to do anything but dust it off occasionally.

I could be wrong, but it definitely looked to be a revolver. I'm not a particular fan of wheelguns, but I'll admit that this kind of situation is where they excel: someone who apparantly knew nothing about guns was able to draw from a known location, fire, and hit successfully in only a second or two. That's truly impressive, under that much stress.

Looks like as good a shoot as you get, and this is with someone who had no prior firearms experience.

Also, is it just me, or was she extremely quick on the draw?

Good thing it was caught on video. If she shot the unarmed man without video proof of her dangerous situation the legal system may not have come out on her side.

The possibility of any of us in a similar situation being captured on video is pretty slim... sobering thought!

Considering he still had the money from the cash register, that would have been evidence in her favor without video. It is likely not his first crime either.

What is/was the final outcome. Was she charged and charges dropped or what? Am concerned that employ of one right does not necessarily guarantee all of our other rights will be honored.

But … but … we’ve been told by all the self proclaimed Combat Masters, guys that actually have “Combat Master” engraved in their 1911s, that the only way of putting a man down so quickly is hitting the central nervous system with a JHP 45 ACP!
He dropped because she shot him in the gut? Unbelievable! Does it hurt being shot in the stomach at all?:scrutiny:
Amazing!
Seriously now, that lady has one big pair of eggs.
