Looking at apolish tantel at my lgs . the importer is interarms houstin texas. it'smarked model Ausa onone side and wz 88 tantel on the other side . It's cal.5.45x 39 . has anybody ever owned one ?can anyone tell me about the quality, value, magazine availability? I've been searching the web and can only find general historical info. Any links? Thanks spence

I have an interarms wz.88. Fantastic rifle. Accurate and very little recoil. Mags are out there, but expensive at the moment.

Mine is not for sale.

Thanks RC.my lgs wants $750 for that tantel (its a consignment) do you think its a good price? thanks spence

Check bore and sight alignment. Price is ok, maybe a tad high. How many mags come with it for $750.

If you buy, get several spam cans of 5.45 surplus and as many mags as you can find.

They are fantastic rifles.

I replaced the buttstock with a Bulgarian ak74 stock and its way more comfortable for me.

My Interarms Tantal has over 3,000 rounds throught it without a single and its my main go to rifle. I don't have a single complaint with the build quality and highly recommend them.

A tad high? Bulgarian AK74 clones were $300 with a brand new US made barrel 2 years ago.........
The wire folding stock is terrible and does a good job ruining the potential accuracy of the 5.45 round.
Do yourself a favor and buy a fixed stock AK74 WITH a optics mount(wish mine had one)
Better yet save a couple hundred more and buy a 5.45 AR.
Nothing at all wrong with this round. I have a Bulgy AK74 and a S&W M&P AR in 5.45X39. This round is just as accurate and lethal as issue M855 5.56X45.

I own one and I like it a lot. Ammunition is tight right now and prices have shot up a
lot since the Sandy Hook shootings but I think it would be a good investment. $ 750.00
would have been a ridiculous price a few months ago but now that might be fair. My
Tantal is reliable and I like the 5.45 x 39 round. I would compare it to a .22 long on
steroids. If and when ammunition prices come back down, I plan to shoot it quite a
bit again. I'm not a fan of the folding wire stock but other than that, I am happy
with it. Check the sight allignment and the gas tube before buying to make sure
everything is straight. A sight adjustment tool is also something you should buy
when you purchase the gun.

RC the bore is perfect the looks ok but I really dont know how to check it . it came with one mag ( I went and bought it after my last post ) Insert front sight before ok.the gun appears new. this guy consigned about 25 rifles they all look new .the lgs said the owner fired them all for fuction and put them away. I have a big smile on my face right now! thanks again, spence

vigilanti X the front sight and gas tube look straight I can hardly wait to shoot it ! thank you all for your replys. spence

Congrats on the purchase.....

Pics Pics....

I ditched the wire stock on mine in favor of a fixed stock. Far more comfortable for me.
This is what mine looks like today.

I haven't had any issues with it, you just need to learn how to use it.

Sorry , no pics till late next week , when I pick it up.( it already has a fixed stock) I picked up some wolf 60 grainHP. I'ts all I could find! Spence

Agreed! i was always able to get 28-30 on target at 400m with that junker wire stock, but i definatly agree the fixed stock is far better when running and gunning and in 400+ shots much tighter cheek weld.

I know a turd when I shoot one.

I think after shooting over 3,000 rounds and having the thing for almost year and trying a fixed buttstock at one point before switching back, I would know if it's a turd. I have no issues at all with this stock at 300 yards and I doubt I'll have issues at 400 yards. Sure a fixed stock is better for accuracy but it's an AK, it's not built or intended to be a sniper rifle and so far, I can hit whatever it is that I want with it.

My issue with the original wire stock was a length of pill issue. I'm 6'7" and the rifle with the wire stock was just too cramped for me. The extra LOP wither the Bulgarian fixed stock made all the difference for me.

I'm definitely going to agree with FIVETWOSEVEN here. I have fired many, many types of firearms and I own several AK variants...the Interarms Tantal is not a turd. I've been very happy with mine and with even a little practice the wire folding stock isn't a problem. Given the price of AK-pattern rifles at the moment, $750 doesn't seem unreasonable (it's more than you'd pay a few months ago but not by a whole lot). If you find the wire folder doesn't have a long enough LOP or you can't train around it, it's very simple to swap out a fixed stock. I think you'll be very happy with it, spence.

I don't see how that's particularly helpful to anyone without a time machine. Those prices have been a thing of the past for a while even leading up to the current price hikes...I don't think we'll be seeing that again. Plus the Interarms built Polish Tantal is every bit as nice as the Bulgarian ones (in fact it has a more durable finish in my experience) and your one critique is fixable by removing two screws and swapping out the stock. Calm down.

My issue with the original wire stock was a length of pill issue. I'm 6'7" and the rifle with the wire stock was just too cramped for me. The extra LOP wither the Bulgarian fixed stock made all the difference for me.

I'm 6'3 and I had to square up my stance so the rear sling ring wasn't going up my nose. I also added a "baby shoe" rubber buttpad to it to increase the LOP by about an inch and I'm happy with my setup now. Only stock I can see myself trading it for is a Beryl folding stock or a Russian triangle folder.
