Anyone ever successfully reload a berdian primed brass case by turning it into a boxer primed brass case in 7.62X39?

Is is just a matter of removing the primer crimps and reload as usual?

If so, is there any reference material you can point me to?

Thanks

not an 7.62x39, but I tried it on a 30 carbine (brass cases). I deprimed about 30. The decapping pin either poked a 3rd hole in between the existing 2, or tore the center out of the primer pocket making a largish ovoid hole. I then discovered the berdan primer pocket is not as deep as the boxer pocket, so the boxer primer poked up out of the back of the case. I only loaded 2 (1 big hole, 1 3 hole), and they both chambered and fired without mishap, but I really didn't like the concept of a loaded round with a protruding primer. Life's too short for sketchy ammo. Besides, I like my eyes and fingers where they are.

You can do it with x39 cases, however, the primer pocket is larger so you have to epoxy the primers in there somehow. Some guys use fingernail polish.

That seems like a process that could easily contaminate the primer. Not to mention being a lot of work for a common round.

That being said, as a way to remove the berdan primer without risking breaking your decap pin, I have heard of people filling the case half-full of water, then taking a wooden dowel of roughly the same diameter of the case opening and quickly shoving it in. Apparently the hydraulic pressure will force the primer out.

Cost effectiveness

My bang-stick doesn't like berdian primers and the expence of the first buy cost-basis;

50 pieces of un primed brass for $23.00, or $24.47 for 50 factory loads.

It was just a hunch - Loaded Yugo berdian primed cartridges are a little less than the fiocchi boxer primed stuff.

Looks like I better buy fiocchi, shoot em and then reload them until I learn the trade a little better.

Price goes way down after I shoot em the first time. :D

Thanks a bunch!

I find if you are using them for blasting ammo then the Wolf/Tula is cheaper for the loaded ammo than for the cost of jacket bullets in the same amount(100).
Yes buy the PPU to reload but save that for hunting stuff and play with the steel cased stuff. I find $4~$4.50 for 20 RDS of wolf in most of the mail order mags so 100 bullets (123 gr) cost $26 plus shipping. Why spend time reloading blasting ammo??;)
Your bang stick most likely has a weak firing pin spring as the berdan in the Wolf and Tula are harder than most US primers. Had a Mini 30 like that.
