I am confused here, so please enlighten me highroaders. If the XD-45 can hold 13 rounds of .45acp, why can't they fight the same if not more amount of .40sw in the XD, Glock has 15 rounds in their Glock 22.

If the Xd45 holds the same amount of .45acp as the Glock 21 yet it is smaller, why doesn't the XD40 hold as many as the Glock 22.

Please explain!

Capacity is based on a number of variables including magazine height and width. I think the XD40 original has a mag of the same width as the 9mm XD9, which limits the capacity. However, there is a new XD40 "M" that has a 16rd capacity magazine in .40 cal. I am guessing they increased both height and width of the magazine. The XD45 (45 ACP) was extensively reengineered compared to the prior XD's, including the 45 GAP model, and notably it holds 13rds vs. the 10rds in a 45 GAP XD.

glock 22 is 15+1
glock 23 is 13+1
glock 27 is 9+1
xd service and tactical .40 models are 12+1
xdm is 16+1
xd sc is 9+1 with the ability to use the 12+1 rd mags with the grip spacers.

Don't sweat it. If you like the XD and are okay with a few design changes, the new XD-40M is available. It's a .40 cal model that has 16+1 capacity. Fairly spiffy looking, too...

In order to fit the same number of rounds in an XD .45 as a Glock .45 XD has made the grip and magazines longer.
