Hi folks, I'm new here.
I'm not a newbie with firearms and have been shooting since a teenager in the late sixties, but I'm no expert either and wanted to join in, participate and to learn as much as time allows so here goes with my first question.

If anybody is familiar with these models, what self-defense ammo seems to be the most digestable.
I'm leary of P+ ammo even though it might be the best approach for the 9mm but in reality I'm not convinced one even needs it unless they are in law enforcement and need that for the bad guy who might wear a vest.
Anyway, I want reliable stuff and I want it to work.
Any feedback is appreciated.
Jim

Your XDm is capable of firing any load you want to put through it including cast lead loads and +P if you ever decide you want to use it. The only load I'm aware of for the XD .45 that will cause you problems are SWCs. The XDm in .45 will digest them with no problem but there was an improvement made to the XDm in .45 that allows it to use SWCs.;)

BTW, Welcome to the forum!

I carry an XDm 3.8 9mm every day. My carry load is Federal 115 gr +P+.

The gun is built to handle it. No problems.
I wouldn't shoot ammo that hot all the time. It's too expensive and I'm a handloader. But for defense, the cost of ammo isn't an issue. I don't shoot all that many people, after all. ;)

Actually, the load I've been using for the last few years for practice with my Glocks, BHPs, CZ, etc., wouldn't function in my XD. Frequent smokestack jams. After upping the powder charge by 0.2 gr, the gun runs fine. I've heard this is a pretty common thing with XDs.

My XDM 9mm has never failed with any ammo, though the only SD ammo I've tried is 124 grain Gold Dot.

I find that the only factory ammo that my xd 45 doesnt like is remington umc, the SD load that i like the best is winchester pdx1 230 gr hp because its a bonded hp and at 1 dollar a round its pretty much the cheapest SD ammo out there, and since about 50 percent of the time hp dont expand in a human target, why pay 40 dollars a box for what could become ball ammo on impact anyways

Thanks everyone for the info.
Now, if I can even find the good stuff. Seems the manufactures just can't keep up.
