I've read differing opinions on the accuracy of the XD 9 (service or tactical), some say its one of the least accurate pistols they've ever had, other say its very accurate. I was wondering what the general consensus was on this?

What size groups are you XD shooters getting at 25 yards?

Mine is plenty accurate for self-defense purposes. But it's no where near as accurate as my CZ SP01 or 1911 for paper punching.

I've got 9mm service and subcompact models, both of which are quite accurate. I have owned a number of other "service" type pistols--sig's, Walther P99, etc. My XD's are more accurate than any of those, and would even outshoot a couple of my 1911's. The only 9mm I have owned that would have had a chance of equaling them was a CZ-75 I had once upon a time, but I like the ergonomics of the XD's better.

I'm not a fan of the XD, but I have shot about 1000 rounds through a rental gun and I must say, the accuracy of these guns is above average. I may have issue w/ the pistol as a whole, but not as far as the accuracy is concerned.

Last week I handed my XD9 Service to my bud. He dry fired twice to get the feel of the trigger. Of the eight rounds in the magazine, at 21 feet, the first two shots at the target were a bit "off". The last six were in a group of well under an inch. Not bad for not having shot one before.

Good enough for me

The first time I shot one wasn't with mine, but with a friends. I liked it so much that I borrowed it to take my CHL test. I later bought one that was complete with night-sights.

My Glock 34 has a trigger pull < 3lbs and the XD is 6.5lbs. I shoot the XD better, but I don't understand why.

I like the XD, but it doesn't knock my socks off like the Beretta PX4 Storm did.

Mine is a XD9 subcompact and I have shot a few other XD, too. The accuracy for the XD in general are not great and not horribles either, they are acceptable. For my XD9 SC, it can do 1.5" at 7 yards easily compare to my TRP, it does half that at the same distant. The XD is not meant to be a target gun, and don't buy it if you want a pistol to do less than 2" at 25yds. If you are looking for accuracy in a 9mm production gun that costs about the same, I would suggest you try a CZ75.

XD-9 Service at about 20yds.

I'd say that target at 20 yards for a self defense auto speaks for itself. Nice shooting.

I always thought accuracy is proportional to the ability of the person shooting the gun.
I took my NIB 40XD 4" to the CCW class. The first rounds were shot in the class. The instructor, NRA certified and competition pistol shooter, asked if he could fire my gun. I was delighted he asked. At 25' every round was in the center of a 50' slow fire target. Only one round was low, that was because the target was bouncing up and down from the previous shots.

2 XD's

Well I like to rent & shoot every gun I can before I purchase it, that way sometimes I save a lot of money. I went and rented a service model chambered in 9mm. I was impressed with the way it functioned and felt in my hand, but it shot like crap as far as accuracy goes. Against my better judgement I bought a XD service model in 45 acp and was surprised at how well it performed. It kept up with my 1911's which cost 2x what the XD did. I enjoyed the XD platform so much I decided to purchase the sub compact in 9mm and is now my full time CCW. Function, accuracy and feel are supior in both pistols. I am sad to say that I have enjoyed shooting them so much that next week at the gun show I will be purchasing my third XD, this time the Tactical and I plan to do some lite modifications to it and perhaps try my hand out in some compatitions.

Yes the XD platform is very very nice, but to each is their own. Try to rent one or ask to shot one at your local gun range. See if you like it. Do some reach and read some reviews, but take the reviews with a grain of salt because they are just one persons opinion.

All of my XDs shot pretty well out-of-the-box. Getting the triggers done makes a big difference, too (the new drop-in kit is also nice). After "a few" mods on my XD-9 Tactical, though, it shoots better than I probably ever will. ;)

To be honest... I have almost double in parts and 'smith fees than what I paid for the gun brand new. But from a rest, it'll drill out the 10-ring at 25 yards! :D

I just got back from an indoor range, where I put some rounds through my XD9 Service. At 21 feet, 16 rounds went into a group about 3/4" wide by 1 1/4" high. That's plenty accurate for my needs! Sorry- no camera.

Yeah no pics for me either yet. But the XD9 is a pretty accurate pistol, I'd say the most accurate out of all the 9mm's I have shot.
