XD owners: Ever had a breakage yet?

The newer XD is on par with Glock reliability. My friend has had a XD for 6 month with zero problems. Springfield's parts policy stinks. If a Glock or most other popular guns breaks you can go to any gunsmith or fix it yourself if you have the parts, if its and XD you have to mail and wait :p . If this will be your only gun or if you shoot competitively I would go elsewhere.

I've seen 2 XD 9 guide rods break at about the 30,000 round point. Both were heavily used range guns & both were replaced/fixed by SA fairly quickly.

I have about 3000 rounds thru an XD40 and about 1000 thru an XD9 with zero failures of any kind. The XD9 is my car gun and has survived the heat/humidity of summer and the freezing cold of winter with no problems. Not an extreme test by any means, but good enough for me.

On the guide rod issue, I replaced the stock guide rod with a one-piece Don's guide rod and spring in both my XD's. The gun will fall apart before that piece of solid steel breaks.

I didnt read everyone elses post but I can imagine that they all say that they have had no problems. I have about 7-800 rounds through my xd .45acp service (4")

No problems except my father tried to get it to jam by limp wristing it and succeeded. Though when he finally got her to jam he was holding it like a little girl. Mind you he was doing this on purpose because he is a LEO and is partial to Glocks and sick of hearing how my XD had never jammed on me. He sure showed me I guess.

Get the XD you wont be sorry.

i have two xd's as you can see from my signature at the bottom of my post and there has been no breakages at all. don't worry about if anything does happen to them, sa has a great customer service and will square you away, and they will be rembursed you for your shipping.

I've owned four (three currently) XDs and have run thousands of rounds through each. I haven't experienced a single failure with any of them (3", 4" or 5" models).

The SA parts policy does kind of suck, but they don't make you send your gun in for every little thing that might need replaced. If it is something that can be easily replaced with little more than a field strip, they have been known to just send out the part (recoil assemblies especially). If you do end-up having to send them the gun, they will reimburse your shipping costs.

Prior to April '06, some people experienced rust issues with the XD. In April '06, though, SA switch all XDs to their "Melonite" finish which is identical to Glock's indestructible "Tennifer". A properly maintained gun should never have rust issues, but if you're worried just make sure to get a gun with a test fire date after April of last year (It's written on the envelope that contains the fired cartridge that comes with the gun).

As a side note... Anyone who had an XD with rust issues could get SA's "Armory Coat" done under warranty. They do warranty everything for life after all. ;)
