lets have some fun
the 80 series 1911s have firing pin safety and a improved barrel lug that is more reliable. and i would be forced to go with the XDm because of all the xtra features still i think the glock looks better but i know that most people think there uglyMy issue with the blackstrap safety is in what situation would it prevent a ND? Most NDs are because someone with their hand on the gun pulled the trigger. That won't preven it from going off. When holstering the pistol if you hold it loose enough so that the grip safety isn't pressed you could end up dropping the gun.
The only benefit to a grip safety would be using it as the sole control for a firing pin block. By not having the trigger operate a firing pin block could result in a benefit to the trigger. If this is how the xd is setup then it makes sense. If its not then it doesn't really add any real safe aspect.
The 1911 has a completely different trigger. If I am not mistaken even the modern 1911s don't have a firing pin safety. They rely on the manual safety and the grip safety. If the weapon were on fire and dropped it could fire, but without a hand depressing the grip safety that should help prevent that from happening.
now why would you do that ?Well,I would go with a smith M&P or regular springfield XD.
The XD IMHO does everything the XDm does.I dont care for all the little add-ons springfield tacked on and raised the price accordingly. The smith M&P is a solid design and feels better in my hand.Although i own a glock17 and it shoots fine....it just feels cheap to me.The XD and M&P doesnt for what ever reason. Its just my perception of course.I used to be a glockaholic....not anymore thank you.Despite its popularity i cant help get past the cheap feeling of the almighty glock.now why would you do that ?
