I have been looking at the XDm as a possiblme solution to my CC needs and I have a couple qustions. I see that they have a "full size" grip and a "mid size barrel. (5.6" height and 3.8 or 4.5" barrel)

#1 Does anyone here carry one?

#2 Does the grip give you trouble concealing?

#3 Are there other models with similar features that you are aware of?

I know that they have a Compact model, that has a 3.8" barrel and a shorter grip. What's neat about it is that you can use a full size magazine with a sleeve to effectively make it a full size grip.

I have the XD version (not XDm) in 2 flavors...

1st is a .45 Full Frame gun, which I never carry concealed. just too big

2nd is a 9mm Sub Compact which is much eaiser to carry...

And as the above poster said, you can use the 10rd Mag and make the grip full size.

The XDm comes in 3 "flavors" (not including competition), the 4.5" with full grip, 3.8" with full grip, and 3.8" with compact grip. The nice thing is that if you get the compact grip, you can still get full size magazines with grip extensions. Considering that, I really don't see much reason to go with the full grip unless A) you want the 4.5" barrel (which is really nice, but big) or B) you plan on carrying a LOT of extra magazines, in which case the extensions would start to get in the way.

I started off with the 3.8 full, and I didn't have too many problems concealing it. The compact pretty much disappears.

One thing to consider with the XDm series over the competition (M&P, Glock, Ruger, Caracal) is that the XDm is quite a bit heavier, on average, than the others. It doesn't bother me, but some people consider every extra ounce to be dreadful.

The 3.8 full grip is the one I am thinking about. For my hands I need the full size grip. Did you use a standard cant or did you angle the grip more toward the vertical?

I was experimenting with my son's PT92AFS and with the longer barrel it made odd shapes above my back pocket. Does the 3.8" do this?

Carry it butt forward to minimize printing.

Don't worry about odd shapes that'll be covered by your concealment garment.

That's the kicker. I use a tuckable and no other outer garment usually. My shirts are thick enough and loose enough that you cannot see anything.

The new XDS .45 is now available. Awesome, super thin carry pistol. I pick mine up this week! Read the reviews on this micro-powerhouse!

FPD, that doesn't help his issue if he needs a full size grip.

Jeremiah, I don't think I had any cant on the gun. I carry IWB at 9:00 (I'm southpaw). Under a hoodie or jacket the full size disappears, but it prints on a t-shirt or polo.
