I've been to the range a couple of times with my XR100 and, although it shoots great, it has a tough time chambered some of the cartridges. It is chambered in 22-250. So far the only ammo that I've had problems with are Federal Gameshok 55gr Sierra (wouldn't chamber 2 of the cartridges out of 15) and Winchester Ballistic Silvertip 50gr (wouldn't chamber 1 out of 15).

It will only allow the bolt to close just enough to get it on the ejector so it can be ejected, but won't close all the way. Also, some of the cartridges have a tough time being chambered but will do so. I've noted that, once I find the ones that wouldn't chambered I would try a different one which would chamber nicely, I'd eject that one then try the rough one again, won't chamber. I don't think this could be an extractor problem due to it not doing it on all the cartridges; nor a chamber problem for the same reason.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

Thanks

Very obviously a minimum headspace chamber.

Is this a factory 22-250 barrel or a custom job?

When you run across a cartridge on the max side of SAAMI standard, it is too tight to chamber.

Any good gunsmith should be able to check the headspace and ream the chamber a couple thou deeper if the headspace gages indicate that is the problem.

It's factory from my local Sportsmans Wharehouse. It's fairly new (1-2 months I bought it ago; ~30-40 rds). Anything I can do to check head space without going to a gunsmith?

Would Remington cover something in Warranty?

Well, I gotta say if it won't close on 1 or 2 in 15 rounds of factory ammo, your headspace has already been checked!

But, the only real & proper way to check it is with 22-250 Rem. GO & NO GO headspace guages.

1-2 months old!
Yes, Remington will repair it under warranty.

But you might take it back to Sportsman's Warehouse first, and see what they will do for you.
