Yard signs

If you are going to put a Beware Of Dog sign up when you don't have a dog, be sure to have a large dog bowl with some bits of dog food in it, with the name Tiny on it, or something like that. Or some other warning posted along with the dog warning, such as Killer Stealth Dog Does Not Bark!!!. lol

A motion sensor activating a flood light works good for me. Has scared the hell out of a couple neighbors, and even startled me once when I forgot about it working in the yard til sundown.

Dogs work great too, with or without signs. Don't need to be big ones, my beagles wake up the neighborhood over anything they don't think should be in the yard.

A dog will do much more to deter the ne'er-do-wells. Advertise that you have a dog in some tasteful way (dog house, etc).

Personally, I think an idea like this sends the wrong message to the right people, and the right message to the wrong people!

Most folks would consider that to be a bit tacky and overtly red-neckish, at least around my neighborhood. I'm a gun guy, and I love shooting, but I no more feel a need to advertise that in my front yard than I do any of my other hobbies.

Plus, it is like putting up a neon light that says "FREE guns to all crooks... wait until I leave, and come on in!!!"

Sorry for Lucifer thread, but I saw something last week too good to leave out of this...

A few miles outside town, a lady has a sort of antiques/second hand shop. Some of the stuff is left outside when closed, just too much trouble to move in and out.

Her sign says...

Is Stealing worth your SOUL?

signs

I have a sign in my yard "Beware of dog" I have 2 one is an Aussie mix the other is a Rottie mix. The neighbors all know them and noone messes around my home. My next door neighbor at my previous home got buglarized. He was the fourth house down the cul de sac the first three had dogs ( toy poodle to Great Dane) inside the victim had four dogs in a pen in his back yard. They
can't protect your/their home if they are in a pen in the back yard. The punks got caught by the way.

Serious answer:

1. Will you really deter someone?
2. Will you give a hint for a burglar when you are not home?
3. If you are in an ambiguous SD shooting, will you look bad to a jury?
4. Are you doing it to posture and show off to the neighbors at touch?

Would a good alarm and Fido serve the same purpose?

And......post a "Protected by Brink's Security?"

Fogedaboutit!!!!

They'll break in and steal your alarms.....those things are expensive!

I think the difference is that dogs and alarms are difficult (if not impossible) to steal, and criminals can buy them legally.

What I have:

A few feet from my front door is an Iron plate, 2' wide by 4' high with rebar welded on for legs, with around 50 .308 holes, firmly planted in the ground - Hard not to notice with the Smiley face with a tongue sticking out and all the holes in it...

Thinking about adding a motion sensor activated light.

Yup, they'll steal those, too......so be sure to mount them up high.

It's SO easy to come in from the side and unscrew the bulb if you can reach them from the ground.
