The other day my wife and I were having breakfast at the Der Dutchman a popular resturant here in Ohio.

Any way back to the story. I was sitting there and I look-up and saw this
guy walk in, and around his neck hanging in front of his shirt was a badge and chain.

Natural I thought cop. But klthen I thought way would an under-cover officer expose his badge in that manor.

As he walked to the breakfast buffet I too made another trip on the other side so I could get a better look......As you may have guessed... It was an concel carry badge...

I felt like saying you stupid idiot... But I was with my wife and kept my mouth shut...It's amazing how stupiot some people are.....

I know alot of cops that do that actually. Some of them say it is intimidation factor, I think it makes them feel cool. That is deffinatly not uncommon in Colorado. By the way GO BUCKEYES!!!!!!!! they won today YAY!!!!

I don't understand the CC badges. The whole point of CC is so people don't know you are carrying a firearm. If you want someone to know you are carrying than just OC.

Illegal to actually OC in some places.

If OC is not legal, how is CC? Any place you cannot carry, you cannot carry, period. At least in the legal sense.

Enlighten me, I am considering getting my CC license and I am torn, from a Libertarian aspect.

Lots of places outlaw OC and not CC. It's stupid but that's just how our laws are. In OR, for example, both are legal, except in a nearby town which has banned OC. CC is still legal.

Actually Ohio info is the only info that is pertinent to my request. But, the effort is appreciated.

Jerry

Added: I mistook the info I saw as an Ohio issue. The poster is not licensed in Ohio.

Ah, Der Dutchman, you have made me wish I was on vacation. We go to Ohio once a year to visit the wife's family. Always hit the Der Dutchman!! Sorry, couldn't help myself, oh yea, that guy sounds like a real idiot.

I did not know these even existed :barf:

Go to gunbroker and type in Concealed badge in the search box. They are charging 50 bucks + for some of them

I have worn my badge outside my shirt on too many occasions when I did not realize it. Forgot to put it back under the shirt after a raid or other operation, then stopped to get a bite to eat. A little bi embarrassing, but no big deal, no sign of trying to be macho, no trying to get a free meal. In the case of the guy in the diner, maybe he was just stopped by the police while driving to the diner, and he had to ID himself with it because he was carrying, or maybe he was an idiot. Who can tell?

By the way, just because an officer is in plain clothes when he works does not make him an undercover officer. An undercover officer, acting in an undercover capacity, often would not likely be carrying anything to identify himself as an officer. That would be part of his cover.

All the best,

lol, i can possibly see what he felt cool showing everyone, lol no i can't. either CONCEAL carry or OPEN carry. no point in CONCEALED carry if your just going to tell/show everyone your packing.

In my town (Cary) you cannot legally open carry except on your own property. It's prohibited by local ordinance. However, state law prohibits local governments from enacting CC restrictions, so we can still CC here. You are correct in thinking that there are many places you cannot carry at all, but there are some in-between. That's our government for you ;)

Geez. :cuss: :banghead:

I think I just summed up all my emotions on the CCW Badge issue. If someone wants to carry a badge they should apply for a job that issues one. When I'm off-duty I don't want anything that will identify me as an LEO to the non LEO's.

I do carry my work wallet with my creds though. The credit cards are in my other wallet. That way, when I'm in a store paying for something I don't have to show my LEO ID as I'm paying. My Driver's License is in my work/cred case for easy identification purposes.

"I don't need a stinking CCW badge"~!;)

As I'm not out too try an impress anyone~! :D

I think its a bad idea for these wanna be's to walk a'round with a CCW
badge hanging from their neck. I hope this never happens, but doing so
could get the person doing so seriously wounded or even killed. During
my days as a LEO, I was always discreet with the way I presented
myself in public. Sure, I toted a handgun (next to my belt badge)
and a pair of S&W handcuffs; but the public very seldom laid eyes
on them~!

Glenn the point isn't weather he is under cover or jst plain clothes.. At first notice everyone, I'm asuming, are thinking LEO. hence another reason for not having cc badges...........

Lame. This guy most likely gets a sense of power by walking around with a badge and relishes that people assume he is a cop. Total wannabe. :barf:

There is no reason to advertise CCW.

Whatever the reason for wearing it, to me it gives him an image as a "Rambo wannabe". This guy was a few sandwiches short of a picnic. I suspect he was trying to make strangers think LEO. Some people!:banghead:

He should have been wearing this:

[It's amazing how stupiot some people are.....

That may be a typo, but I'd like to submit it for inclusion in the lexicon! What a perfect descriptor!

Stupiot stew-pee-ot n.
Contraction of Stupid and Idiot. Reserved for Idiots whose Stupidity is so all encompassing that standing next to them for more than a minute actually lowers your IQ.

usage: "Hey did you see that stupiot at the breakfast buffet?" "The one with a CCW badge? What a mall ninja!"
