Concealed means no-one knows you have the weapon. :banghead:

No, no...I've got it...it's code, code for meet him in the bathroom stalls. :neener:

Did he look like a senator, or did he click his heels?

Ba ha!

WA State is totally schizoid regarding OC. It is not illegal unless some bed wetter who sees it takes alarm, then it is. Go figure.

Could be a bounty hunter.

They often like to use identifications much like the police or FBI does to try minimizing getting shot and to be able to intimidate people into talking.

Blackbeard quipped:
Maybe it was a real cop whose undercover identity is a CCW-badge-carrying moron.

:spit take:

I don't know about them CCW badges. I have never seen anyone wearing one. I have seen them in gun shops for a little less than $40. I asked the counter guys if anyone ever bought them. They replied near in unison " just idiots". I wondered to myself why they offer them for sale feeling the way they do. Anything to make a buck I guess. Funny thing is I could almost see my wife thinking she was doing something nice for me by purchasing one
(that is if she ever entered a gun shop, never will happen). In that case of course I would thank her and then promptly put it in a drawer with other keepsake type things. It would never get worn.

As for badge anicdotes I have this to offer. Years ago while working part time nights in a liquor store a fellow set his bottle on the counter for me to ring up. I asked for ID and he proceeded to whip out his sherrifs deputy badge. I think I may have chuckled and told him I needed a drivers license with date birth and having one of them (badges) did not mean he was 21. I am pretty sure he got annoyed but he did then give me proper ID. My only other cop story with humor involved happened 25 years ago or so when I rolled through a 4-way stop at 3 AM ( sober as a judge) and right then a cop appeared to see me do it. He promptly pulled me over and pointed out that i did not stop at that sign. I asked him if it would be okay if I just stopped twice at the next one to make it up. He just gave me a look and hollered at me to just " go home". Maybe my feeble attempt at humor got me out of that ticket. He was behind me still a few hundred yards up the street where I did stop twice at the next sign. I went home.

In my town (Cary) you cannot legally open carry except on your own property. It's prohibited by local ordinance. However, state law prohibits local governments from enacting CC restrictions, so we can still CC here. You are correct in thinking that there are many places you cannot carry at all, but there are some in-between. That's our government for you.

Fletcher, I'm quite interested in seeing this local ordinance. From State v. Kerner (NC Supreme Court, 1921):

"It is also but a reasonable regulation, and one which has been
adopted in some of the states, to require that a pistol shall not
be under a certain length, which, if reasonable, will prevent-the
use of pistols of small size, which are not borne as arms, but
which are easily and ordinarily carried concealed. To exclude all
pistols, however, is not a regulation, but a prohibition, of arms,
which come under the designation of "arms" which the people are
entitled to bear."

This opinion is the reason for the size restriction in Chapel Hill. It seems quite clear that banning pistols is a prohibition, not a regulation.

"If OC is not legal, how is CC? Any place you cannot carry, you cannot carry, period. At least in the legal sense."

obviously, you've never been in the armpit known as philadelphia.

Plus one for STUPIOT.

every time we talk about CCB and open display of it ,I think they might as well be cc a Mathews Switchback

It seems to me that such a CCW badge worn in such a manner could be tantamount to impersonating a police officer

Huh? What does this mean in English?

My guess is that CCB = Concealed Carry Badge, cc = concealed carrying and Mathews Swithback is a misspelling of a line of archery bows.

Badges and new words.

O.K., I think CC badges are a dumb idea. Why CC if you're going to advertise, it's no longer really concealed.

Now, I propose a vote to enter "Stupiot", a noun, into the official THR lexicon. Definition as proposed by our esteemed member raytracer.

I actually have 4 CCW badges. I wear one on each side of my belt, so people can see both sides, and one hanging from a chain around my neck in case they don't look down. The 4th is in my wallet, so I can show it around when I pay for stuff. You can't be too careful you know, someone could mistake your keys for a gun, call the cops and you get stuffed and cuffed up against a bookstore men's room wall when you least expect it! My badges show the good guys that I'm a good guy, and the sheep that I'm a good guy, or at least a good guy who could afford a few $5 badges and CARE enough to wear them in an obvious way.

It's like a secret code, only more badass somehow.

Joking, I've never actually seen one of these things. I'm surprised that so many of you have seen people wearing them!

If OC were illegal, I suppose I can kinda see why someone would wear something saying they were carrying, but a badge is just so mall ninja.

Maybe it was a real cop whose undercover identity is a CCW-badge-carrying moron.

Now that had me laughing a good half a minute! I love it.

Fortunately, here is New Mexico this has already been addressed:

10.8.2.16 TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF LICENSE:

G. Indicia of licensure. No person who is not a law enforcement officer, may carry a badge, patch, card, or any other indication of authority to carry a concealed handgun in New Mexico other than the license issued by the department or a license issued by a state that has been accepted by transfer, recognition or reciprocity by New Mexico pursuant to the act.

One of the few things that our folks got right.

Open Carry is legal in Philadelphia as long as you have a CHL.
It is indeed legal but be prepared to be pushed up against a wall every time you pass a policeman.
As far as wearing a CCW badge...it's that kind of cowboy crap (apologies to real cowboys) that tarnishes the reputation of responsible gun owners.

I bet he tucks away that badge REAL quick when a cop or real badge carrying individual comes into the room. What a loser.

Jerry, here in New MExico both are legal, but when I visited Texas, I was actually pointedly told by a Texas State Trooper who pulled me over it was illegal to OC since the adoption of the CCW there, and I was quite surprised on this! I too thought it was stupid to outlaw OC when CCW was adopted. Here in NM the reason given for not outlawing OC when we adopted CCW was because not everyone who can afford a gun, can afford the time or money it then cost to become CCW qualified which at the time was a total cost of two days off work, with the money comming to about $400.00 in toto for a CCW. Now it takes two days, usually a weekend, and about $150.00 in tot for one here in New Mexico.
