You Can Run, But You Can't Hide From a Glock

I always found something I liked better... always found something I shot better...never thought I'd go down the well-worn path, but...

Think I'm gonna buy a Glock. . . . . <snip>

Please don't tell anyone!! Counseling, however, is welcome.
I get it. I spent ~25-30 years hating Glocks. I didn't want anything to do with them. Then I went looking for a polymer 9mm for carry. There are lots of good "polymer 9mm carry pistols," but I came home with a Gen 4 G19. Next thing I knew, I had a holster for every occasion, and she'd become my main carry pistol.

Few months ago I bought my first 10mm which happens to be a Glock G29. My local range had only one pistol in 10mm and this was it. I checked it out and thought hmm... this is rather nice. Comfortable to hold but will need a pinky extension to control the beast. This is a powerful little sucker.

Then I go online to learn about 10mm and Glock and was amazed at what I can get for the Glock. It's practically a GI Joe pistol. So far I got a 40sw, extended 10mm and a 9x25 Dillon barrels for it. Plus I got three G20 15 round magazines and a three mag pouch. My G29 came with three 10 round mags.

I've been hearing a lot of hate for Glocks and now I ask why?

I could be wrong but I think you can get a 45 acp conversion barrel for your 29 as well.

No, I never saw any conversion for 45acp in a G29. Probably because of the magazine and the well being too small. It can go the other way, 10mm in a 45acp pistol.

I will share my opinion of Glocks since the first G17 I had in 1989: They are above all lightweight, this is a very important factor for a carry gun. They are reliable! If it don't go bang every time then you would be better off with a hammer. Glock has had a few issues over the years like everybody else. Their products have been refined as they went very satisfactorily and are as reliable as it gets. They are reasonably accurate as you see by their successful use in competition and my own experience. The first G17 was as accurate as my earlier Hipowers so enough said about that. They were ground breaking in their design; I had an earlier H&K VP70 which used polymer for the frame but Glock perfected it. The ressurrection of an older Steyr trigger design was visionary too, after all the trigger IS the ultimate safety , but I will save more about that later. The recoil impulse seems to be softer with the polymer frame in my experience, probably has to do with ergonomics too, result Glocks are softer shooters than their competition IMHO.
Now for the down side: I CCWed a Glock 26 for 10 years or so and found it too fat for pocket holster carry . I switched to the thinner Shield for that and the last negative reason. The reholster issue ! This is the fatal flaw for Glock IMHO and I can NOT get over it ! i CARRIED MY Glocks allways in correctly fitting Kydex holsters as I wanted that trigger "safety" protected ! I saw the wrongness of so many dangerous design holsters that were sold for Glock and shuddered. . There was no faster presentation for me than a Glock 26 in a MadDog Taylor Thunderbolt in which I bettered my life time record of draws to hit times at 7 yards or less , way less than 1 second from go signal ! I went thru many courses under top tier trainers and NEVER felt confident with a "no look at pistol" reholster , as I could do with other guns. Just knowing an errant piece of cloth or webbing or anything COULD cause the gun to fire steered me away from the Glock for anything other than open carry and even then chest carry has become the only option I feel comfortable with- sort of. So for highly trained special ops folk it makes sense, and maybe police use where carefull reholstering is practiced. For everyday CCW for me not so much. The chest rig with my Glock 21 I showed while riding motorcycles or ATVs is very good for me, I can see the reholster process up close and carefully.

I have never been a Glock guy, but my Glock 29 is one of the guns I doubt I'll ever sell. There just isn't a better quality 10mm on the market without paying a ton for a 1911.

Congratulations.

I'm not a fan of Glock myself, but I understand those who are and hope it will bring you many hours of accurate, trouble-free shooting.

If I have to draw a CCW, re-holstering should be the least of my worries. And yes I would certainly look.

Who would own a table full of GLOCKs??

Oh wait, that was at my place... Just a few of the Austrian polymer wonders in my stable.

Kept hoping Ruger would make a SR45c, which would have been MY perfect .45 CC gun, but they went the way of the RAP, which isn't my cup of tea. When I drilled down my list of requirements - weight, size, capacity, accessories - da winnah is the 30S.

I can shoot Glocks fine, I just have to work at it a bit harder than other guns. But considering all the 30S offers, it might be worth the effort.

* Mods, I goofed and stuck this in Revolvers... care to move it for me?

I have a Glock 34 that I won at a Glock Raffle (pulling a ticket out of a hat). I shot IDPA with it for quite a while. I always thought that it
was a little harder to shoot than a regular gun like say a CZ75 or even a 1911. Don't get me wrong it is a good gun for combat shooting
because there is no safety. Draw and shoot don't think.
