You ever see something that, well, you just HAVE to have?

Something that isn't a "practical" item, doesn't fit any "traditional" firearm niche, (self defense, hunting, competition, etc.), but just because "I wanna"? I walked into CAL Ranch two weeks ago with a few extra shekels jangling in my pocket when I spied this on the shelf. I held it and put it on layaway on the spot - last one in the store.

Uberti Cattleman II Birds Head. Now the thing that grabbed my interest was the thing that probably turned other buyers off - it's in .357, not 45 Colt. I don't have ANYTHING to load 45 Colt, but I have 38 Special brass, plenty of components, lead and a mold, so good to go. Just need more 357 Magnum brass.
Bought some 125 grain Golden Sabers just because every gun should have a self-defense load, but if I am reaching for this one, the wheels have come ALL the way off the wagon.
Now, to get to the range...

Awesome: Love a good birds head grip SAA. Need to see if that configuration comes in .22Lr Be Well

The great thing was my wife was with me when I picked it up, and her only thing was, 'You are taking me to dinner tonight, right?" Indeed we did go to Mr. Baja's Taqueria, our favorite local Mexican place, and we ate ourselves full. Since this was late in the day, no range time today, maybe tomorrow.

I saw something very similar from Taylor's at my LGS. It was an engraved 3½ inch saa in .357mag. I successfully fought the urge to buy it.....but it still haunts me.

Last gun I saw a an LGS was a Taurus TX-22, and if it wouldn't have been in FDE, I would have bought it, I had the cash in my pocket. But I dislike FDE greatly, and soon bought a black TX-22 Compact.

I suppose every gun I've ever owned fell into that category except for a 12 ga pump, and a 22 rifle I used to use for hunting.

I recently bought a Smith and Wesson Model 57-1, 41 Magnum. The only "reason" was I had some 41 magnum ammo and reloading stuff left over from the last 41 magnum I had and swore off of because I already had a 44 magnum and didn't "need" a 41. ;) Why did I need a 44? To punch a hole in a piece of paper of course.

As good a place to show off the 41 as any I suppose.

Ummmm I might "need" a "cowboy gun" now.

By the way. I keep telling my wife I "need" an elephant gun. Suppose someone called me up and wanted me to go elephant hunting with them? I'd have to beg off and admit that I don't own an elephant gun. Why that would be like a woman admitting she doesn't have a "little black dress."

So far, she's not buying it. But I'm still working on her.

Far too many times have I had that happen to me.

I wouldn't touch a bird's head in 45 Colt. Now a 357 with mild 38 special loads is an entirely different critter. I wouldn't mind owning one at all.

I think your premise comes under the general heading of impulse buys. Many, perhaps most of my purchases are driven by availability rather than conscious intent, so where to begin?

I supposed the latest was my Colt Detective Special -- it was there, I wanted it as soon as I laid eyes on it, and it doesn't do anything that something else I own isn't already doing. It's cool looking, fun to shoot and I could afford it at the time.

I suppose the same holds true for the S&W M60 I picked up from the LGS on Tuesday. I already have one, but the opportunity came along and the price was right.

As far as seeing a "must have" revolver, yes I have. I was at a gun show several years back and I came across a like new in box Rossi 92 in .45 Colt. It had the short 16" barrel and the large loop lever. I couldn't get my wallet and ID out fast enough! Already had two .45 Colt-like single actions at home (a Ruger Vaquero and a EMF Hartford SAA Model), but I wanted something new to go with the Rossi. Looked at a number of single actions, used and new, and finally came across one that I had to have: a new in box Beretta Stampede, in the same caliber as the Model 92: .45 Colt!

I had been looking for a Rossi lever action and an Uberti single action for the longest time and here I got both of them at the
same show!
