These are some of the best quotes on the topic I have heard yet! Why does it seem that people that like the .45 seem to be such dumb hicks? I like the .45acp but I know the difference between make believe and reality.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"ive been a fan of the 45acp for years...to me there an't nothing like one, sheer power..what ya'll think?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"All a 9mm is good for is nothing 45 is the way to go. That is for a nice and compackt automatic with some power. As far as camping hicking a .44 or a .41 mag is the way to go for bear."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"the .45 was adapted for officers when it was found the .38 officers weapon lacked the knock back power of the .45,they found that an attacker could be killed with a .38 and still kill the shooter, the .45 had the power to knock them back,"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I carry both .40 and .45 while fishing. No not at the same time just what ever place it works best for. The river I carry my stainless 45 acp. It's far more noticeable than my 40. Both will knock someone down, now a 9mm is for drug dealers and thugs. Just not enough power for me."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I've seen 9mm bounce off things like water or thin sheet metal. I'm not always that good of a shot, so I want some that will stop a man even if he's hit in the arm."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"i have owned all 3 cal. the 9mm just dosent do it for me i'm used to some kick everytime i shoot a 9 i'm real low now the 45's are nice but i carry a S&W 40 the one they got sued over by glock i carry two 10rd mags loaded with 180gr hydra-shocks(its like a credit card i never leave home with out it) it shoots real smooth never had it jam yet an i've got at least 1000rds thru it an as for recoil i'd put it inbetween the 9 & 45cal but thats just me KP"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I vote for the 45ACP.I have 2 A Glock and a Llama. The 45ACP is almost 100 years old and the reason for such staying power? Stopping Power!!! "
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Dave you don't have to double tap with a 45acp if you hit him anywhere it'll knock him down.I love my 45ACPs but I do have a 9mm but I got it charged with P+P HP."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do people this stupid manage to learn how to use a computer? I've heard a lot of these stupid statements before but never so many of them all in one place.

It is people like these and arguments like these that make me pretty sure that the .45 hype is mostly that. Oh, and all the research, evidence and stats tend to say the same thing as well. A good 9mm is as good as a good .40s&w or .45acp based on everything I have been able to read. I have not found any info that states a .45acp will kill you if it hits you in the arm and the 9mm will bounce off your sunglasses. Good lord, what are these hicks smoking?

I've been hearing all this BS since I was a kid, and that's over a half-century gone. Arguments about best guns, best cartridges, best cars, best beers, best whiskey: They never end.

"Best" to ignore BS.

You mean if I hit you in the pinky. It won't spin you like a top and tear off your arm. When I bought my Black Ninja 45 from the travling dealer in the alley He told me it would . He also said they had rounds with bird shot so I could use for hunting. He was telling the truth I know because we did the pinky shake and no one will lie if they pinky with you. :D

You have to take most of these posts "with a grain of salt"...taking consideration of the shooter's experience with different calibers and guns, the shooting circumstances, and the particular loads used. You just glean out the good kernels of information.

Personally, I enjoy (and have, or have had) 'em all! :D

Ain't the 9 older?

Dave you don't have to double tap with a 45acp if you hit him anywhere it'll knock him down.
I was lucky enough to learn this fact from my CHL instructor. So there ya go. Some people say that you can't believe anything you read on the internets cause everybody there is an idiot. My instructor proved that some of the posters know what they're talking about.

Thanks, albanian.

Albanian,

Isn't one 9mm vs .45 thread at a time enough?

For crying out loud, what has gotten into you? Have you been taken over by a pod from outer space or something?

Seriously, one at a time is enough.

Let's be realistic. It's not just the .45 ACP. Most (not all) 10mm fanboys are even worse, and more than a few 357 SIG true-believers are too.

"Why does it seem that people that like the .45 seem to be such dumb hicks?"

Freud would say they're trying to compensate for their small pensis.

Well, one thing you have to remember is that anybody can say anything on the internet. You might be surprised how many very experienced, knowledgeable individuals on internet forums trun out to be 13 year olds...

There are lots of trolls who try to keep 45 vs 9mm, Ford vs Chevy, domestic vs import, etc, etc threads going, just to stir the pot. SOmetimes they try to do it in backhanded ways so its nto so obvious they are doing it.

Now me, I'm rather partial to 1911's and 45's myself. To me there's nothing more comfortable to carry, easier to shoot well, and there is just that "something" about them. Of course I also have a couple of xd's in 9mm I like quite alot as well that I also carry. Oh, and I'm sort of partial to wheelguns as well.

What can I say, I like blondes...and redheads...and brunettes...

This not really a 9mm vs. .45acp thread on my part. It is a thread at how stupid some of the arguments can be. I don't hate any caliber or gun. I love guns and I love shooting. The .45acp and the 1911 are true classics and both are very fun to shoot. The 1911 feels great in my hand and the .45acp is both accurate and reliable IMHO. Not trying to state another caliber war because I have no desire to convert anyone to like what I like but I just wish some people would do some critical thinking before they told others about what the "best" caliber is.

Statements like the 9mm is for pimps and drug dealers and the .45acp will knock people down with one shot are bogus. When I hear arguments like this, I don't put any stock into anything people like this say. They have done tests and no handgun will knock anyone down or blow them back 12' like in the movies. It is simple, if it would knock down your attacker, it would also knock you down with the recoil.

I guess the problem I have is it always seems so one sided. There is a caliber or gun or car or person that it is okay to make fun of and there are scared cows that no one ever dares to say anything against. It is fine to say that a 9mm is a lady's gun but nobody ever says the same about .45acp even though it doesn't have any more energy than 9mm. It just doesn't make sense.

To be true, .45 folks have some tall tales. Yet, if you listen to 9mm guys, nobody can ever hit with a .45 (at hit with a 9mm is better than a miss with a .45).

Now, I own three 9mms and only one .45 and one .40 (plus a .455 and some .22's, as well as 7.62x25 and .32acp not to mention 7.62x38r), but the manure piles pretty thick from the 9mm crowd as well. It is BOTH sides, both flavors, which do it. Personally, if I can't do it in 10 rounds with my .45, I am into somthing that another 5 rounds from my 9mm's probably can't handle.

I'm of the opinion that 9mm and .45 are almost equally effective with good hollowpoints. I know .44's are convenient for walks in the woods, but I'm also of the opinion that if I need something bigger than a 9 or .45 you really oughta have a shotgun or a rifle.

one shot stops

the last i read was that the .357 has the best percentage of one-shot-stops, but this is for a wheel gun unless you've got a desert eagle. the 45 & the 9 both are good calibres & i wouldn't feel underpowered w/ either. in fact at times i carry any one of these or 9mm mak & sometimes 32 acp in a keltech, depending on the circumstances.
