You gotta love a kid's sense of humor

Sini: What is your point? Or do you even have one? My kids laugh hysterically if I fart at home, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to do it in church.

i thought it was a neat story, i hardly think it is necessary to rip it apart like that. yeah, in some situations it could have been unsafe, but it sounds to me like the whole family is very well educated around guns.

TRUST me my wife only plays jokes with my SW1911SC. Im pretty sure if I played a joke with her Kimber Tactical Pro II she would NOT be happy with me. She would sell her kids before she would sell her Kimber.

Duh! He wasn't at the range! He was at home!

Again - that makes it so much better?

There seems to be this mentality of "well it's one of us - so it's okay" - no, it's not okay - it's a stupid thing to do. Period.
You want to come down on me for calling a spade a spade - that's your choice.

It's not a smart thing to do, it's not funny, it's not okay just because you're at home, and it's not okay just because they know better. It's a dumb thing to do, and it sends mixed signals about what is and is not okay when it comes to handling guns.

Flame away if you want - don't much care.

My posts were not appropriate and I apologize to everyone. This is about an 8 y/o girl who said something funny. Let's leave it at that.

funny - if you look at the first 4 responses, 3 of 'em implied perhaps that wasn't the smartest thing in the world to do.
Yet - somehow i'm the only one.

Actually my initial statement was mild in comparison - i just said i didn't think it was funny. Clearly i'm not the only one that agrees though.

No need to apologize TRGPHPY your posts where fine TRUST me my daughter farts on me every chance she gets and I hold her down and fart on her... Whats fair is fair...

Some people dont agree farting in public is funny, BUT I can tell you first hand, farting in public then blaming it on your 8 year old daughter is funny I dont care who you are....

Well this morning my wife played joke on me and took my carry gun out of my safe and hid it under a back pack on the kitchen counter.

Firearms are not toys to be used for playing jokes. Additionally, unless it's an emergency or I authorize it, NOBODY, it repeat, NOBODY goes into my gun safe except me.

Careful - mentioning that somehow makes you an undesirable around these parts.

I have to agree with Sinixstar. I think that it is irresponsible to pull a prank with a gun, especially in the presence of a child, it is setting a bad example. That's nothing personal against the O.P (or his wife since she's the one who did it), but if it had ended badly, and it was posted in here about someone we didn't know, EVERYONE would be saying the same things. No need to get upset, but I think it's something you should try to correct in the future.

All responsibility issues aside, your daughter's response was great!

Cute kid!

I reckon it's alright to be proud of your little girl. Just don't be like my uncle, who lets his four-year-old play around with his .30-06! He insists that it's unloaded and the safety's on, but a responsible shooter knows to treat every gun as though it's loaded whether you know it is or not - and I would say giving the gun to a four-year old is not treating it as though it's loaded... :|

Just be sure to teach that kind of rule and respect for lethal weapons to your kids, and I think it's all good...

Of course, I'm only 19, and never had a girlfriend let alone a child, but (not to judge my uncle by saying this but) I think letting a baby - who's not exactly learned yet what a large rifle can do to someone if it's used stupidly - is kind of irresponsible.

Let the kids learn at a young age to respect guns, let them play around with them sensibly at an age of understanding under supervision, and there's nothing wrong with that ;)

One day (God willing) if I ever find a girl and get married, I'd love my kids to take up shooting as a hobby.

The joke was alright. Give your wife and little girl a thumbs up from me :)

But anyways (to that annoyed guy), If you don't have anything nice to say to people, say it for all I care, but keep it to yourself and don't post it.

Andrew

If people don't want people to respond to what they have to say, then they shouldn't be posting it in a public online forum. Nobody has made any personal attacks on the OP, just making simple safety observations.... because proper gun safety/usage is imperative to ALL OF US. If someone came in here saying that they pointed their gun at their drunken buddy, and their kid made some cute quip about gun rights while he was aimed on his buddy, would you neglect to tell him never to point a gun at someone? That's absurd.

Ok, it is a good thing to correct someone, whether the correction is pleasant or not so much.

Yeah, it's kind of not funny that his little girl had relatively easy access to his gun, but I like to try see the good side of a arguably bad situation.

Alright, now that I've thought it over a bit, It could have gone bad in some ways...and I'm not sure now whether it was funny or not... :( now I'm just confused. I get confused very easily...

Personally, I don't see anything funny in it. It must have been one of those, "had to be there moments."

However, I do seem wisdom in your daughter's words. Its refreshing, and good to see young people understand.

As for the actual practical joke itself, I think it was a joke in poor taste. Would it have been half as amusing if your daughter was the one who went and hid your gun?

If not, why is it ok for your wife to do it?

sounds like you upset some internet tough guys who have had liberal gun safety shoved up there rectal region. btw, funny story

Sorry - but seen people have to patch walls because one got away unexpectedly. At home, no big deal, slipped up a little - and BAM.

Kinda changes your outlook on things. If that means i've got liberal gun safety shoved up my rear end - then, so be it. Thank god that to date, i have not been one of those people going to home depot for some spackle (or worse) because i did something stupid.

knowing i'm going for an unpopular position, i'm gonna have to agree with the following statements:

my emphasis added above, of course -- but that's one of the most important parts.
