Would it bother you if your daughter...

I would have to take him to the range and run him threw some drills to see if I was ok with it. If he made it threw the gauntlet of testing then I would be ok with it. Maybe dad would gain a new shooting partner.

I don't understand why CCW would be any more an issue than anything else in his life. Is he a safe driver? Is he violent? Is he a hard worker? Does he exercise good judgment? Is he honest? etc., etc,

I keep a loaded revolver in my auto, which is legal in Missouri. I have it as insurance against the unlikely event that I will need it to protect my family or myself. I would appreciate it if my daughter's date, companion, or husband took the same precaution when she is in his vehicle, and was competent in the use of both the gun and the car.

Should I be fearful of all you CCW's out there? Of course, not. I am safer the more CCW carriers there are, and that includes a man with one of my daughters. In fact the man one of my daughters married owned guns, primarily for hunting before they married, but back then Missouri did not have CCW. Their 10 year old son hunts and target practices with a 22, 30-30, and 410 and I feel quite safe around him, as he is well trained in the use of firearms.

I am less appreciative of my other son-in-law who is afraid of guns and does not avail himself of the benefit of owning even one.

not only would I not have a problem with it,I think it would be a plus.I will also add he may be better off to either hand her the gun or carry a second gun for her.she's 18 and can't get a ccw yet,but she shoots pretty good.

The following advice is what I have provided to EVERY date I've met . . . "Take care of her like I would. Harm Her & I'll hurt you."

I remember taking one of the daughters former boyfriends aside once and telling him, "Your life is in her hands. She says pull the trigger, I don't tend to ask why." He understood. After all, it's HER that I don't want him to F with, not me.

I just faced this situation, I took my girlfriend camping, and when I picked her up that happened to be the first time that I met her father for any length time. He knew that I had just purchased a new gun and started talking to me about it. I offered to show it to him, unholstered it and pulled the round out of the chamber. He checked it out, liked and it the conversation ended up in me getting a tour of his reloading shed. Later on the drive up to the mountain my GF mentioned that NOBODY gets to see the reloading shed, so he obviously approved.

Granted my situation was a little different because my GF also just applied for her CHL and is waiting for it to come back in the mail. Intrestingly enough, he father has many firearms and is an avid hunter but does not have his CHL and does not carry. Maybe at a later date he and I can have that conversation too.

So yes, if I have a daughter and a guy pics her up is CCW'ing that a positive thing. Of course if he proves to me or more importantly that he is a irresponsible person then my opinion would change.

I view it vary much like a boy driving a fast car.

I wonder how it being your daughter dating changes the rules.

EVERTHING changes when it's YOUR DAUGHTER!!!

From dress, behavior, and activities to acceptable associates, your thinking should be a bit different than when it is anyone else.

Why? It's the person, not the gun. Isn't that what we keep telling everyone? If he's an idiot, I'm not going to be his biggest fan whether or not he carries a gun. If he's a decent guy, we'll likely get along, and him being progun would simply remove another possible point of argument.

I have another one me and my BIL use. you take the young man aside before the first date and say "whatever you do to her on your date,I'm going to do to you afterwards"

My 19 year old college sophomore daughter works in a gunshop and has a bigger collection than mine. Of COURSE her boyfriends own and/or carry. She wouldn't have it any other way, nor would I!;)
