Browning Hi Power; 9mm. After the joy of shooting it in long range sessions, I would have the additional pleasure of being able to look at the most beautiful handgun ever made sitting on my bedside table each night.

1911, either Government or Commander size. If I had to choose from the guns I own, it would probably be my DW Valor.

How about handgun hunting grizzlies? Okay, just deer/hogs, let's don't get ridiculous. :D That's why I picked a light, portable, yet powerful .357 magnum like the 3" SP101. It's everything you just described except 50 yards, not 25, and mo powa.

Well where I live, I don't have to worry about bears, hogs, lions, etc :) So I'd rather take 15+1 jhp 9mm than a 6-7 shot wheel gun. If I needed to hit something at 50 yards, I sure wouldn't be using a handgun to do it (others can do it, just not me)

If I needed to get a deer, I'll just grab a long gun (he said one handgun, no mention of restricting long guns!)

H&K P2000 .40 with the 5.5 lbs. LEM trigger and Meprolight night sights.

IMO it's the ideal all-around pistol. It can do it all, from concealed carry to home-defense to competition shooting. I don't have one though. I actually have a P2000sk 9mm as my dedicated concealed carry weapon, and others for different shooting applications. But if I could only have one pistol that had to do it all, the P2000 .40 would be it.

Love my 45 but it would have to be my Glock 22

You can actually have guns down there in Oz? I thought the right to own handguns was not something you guys were blessed with...? When I was in NZ I was told even getting a permit to own a hunting rifle was a BIG pain in the @$$ and and that handguns were a MAJOR nono. Please enlighten me...?

On a side note... what is the first model 1911 you have pictured? I like that the frame runs the entire length of the slide on it. Nice guns.

one gun that must be semi auto- Glock 17

what i would choose given an option- Ruger GP100

Handguns aren't banned in Australia, unlike on the UK mainland(Not Northern Ireland,Isle Of Man& the Channel Islands,though:scrutiny::).They are harder to acquire on a license, from what I've heard&read.I think now that there are length& calibre restrictions on pistols, after the Monarch University shootings,in 2002.SVs are good guns & I'll be settling with a customised,airsoft-model,specially-made in the UK.:)Only way to continue practical shooting with handguns in the UK,now.:cuss:
Its only semi-auto rifles&shotguns,that are banned from normal,target&hunting usage,unless its an occupational use,by a professional shooters,vets,armourers,production companies,etc.The same restrictions apply to modern handguns,over here.In the Uk,its called a 'Section 5 Authority'.

Springfield XD .45 Compact (http://www.springfield-armory.com/xd.php?version=146 ) with TFO night sights (http://www.truglo.com/IW_Products.m4p.pvx?;PRODUCTS_NO_TREE?cat=30500?company=TGI ) and ArmaLaser RSS ( http://www.armalaser.com/Springfield_XD_RSS-SPRINGFIELD_XD_SUB_COMPACT_RSS.html ).
Would carry in a SmartCarry (www.SmartCarry.com) or a Crossbreed SuperTuck ( http://www.crossbreedholsters.com/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx ) depending on concealabilty requirement at the time.

Reasons:
Large, proven caliber, yet good for quick follow up shots.
Gun proven for accuracy and reliability.
Small enough with 10 round mag for carry, medium capacity. 13 round mag for carry reload. Total 24 rounds carried.
13 round mag(s) for range and nightstand.
