"You wouldn't shoot someone, would you?"

I think that if I am ever placed in the position that it becomes necessary to take a life, i forsee myself promptly vomiting all over myself as soon as the adrenalin and the "fight or flight" wears off.

Vitamin G,
That's probably one of the most honest and accurate statements regarding
this topic I have ever read.

Keep in mind it has little to do with how you may view the situation and more
to do with the shock of such a large adrenalin dump. It does not mean your
subconscious believes you did something wrong as some may have you think.

Actually, I would recommend it, if you can do it.

Remember, when this goes to court -- criminal or civil -- your state of mind will be an issue. If you can say, "I was in such fear of my life that I vomited (or soiled myself)" you have a better chance.

Christianity and Self-Defense

Here is what the Catholic Church says about self-defense (from the Catechism of the Catholic Church):

Legitimate defense

2263 The legitimate defense of persons and societies is not an exception to the prohibition against the murder of the innocent that constitutes intentional killing. "The act of self-defense can have a double effect: the preservation of one's own life; and the killing of the aggressor. . . . The one is intended, the other is not."65

2264 Love toward oneself remains a fundamental principle of morality. Therefore it is legitimate to insist on respect for one's own right to life. Someone who defends his life is not guilty of murder even if he is forced to deal his aggressor a lethal blow:

If a man in self-defense uses more than necessary violence, it will be unlawful: whereas if he repels force with moderation, his defense will be lawful. . . . Nor is it necessary for salvation that a man omit the act of moderate self-defense to avoid killing the other man, since one is bound to take more care of one's own life than of another's.66

2265 Legitimate defense can be not only a right but a grave duty for one who is responsible for the lives of others. The defense of the common good requires that an unjust aggressor be rendered unable to cause harm. For this reason, those who legitimately hold authority also have the right to use arms to repel aggressors against the civil community entrusted to their responsibility.

Religion

We've had a couple of thousand years to incorporate religion within the world's culture.

Let me preface this with: I am not religious.

However religion gives people guidelines that make society work. So, I ask just why do liberals hate religion so much? Could it be that liberal ideals conflict with centuries old proven religious parameters?

Kill a commie for Christ!
