Your door is being kick in right now!!

Hello friends and neighbors // Storm doors open outward and have two latches.

After that are steel doors that open inward with two locks and can be braced.

The Local PD is 10 blocks away, but my neighbors would probably have called 911 while I was, drawing my carry gun, on the way to the safe for an 870.

By the time I got the 870 up and called 911 the Local LEOs would be out back taking care of things.

That is a WHOLE lot different than when I lived 45 miles out of town and 22 miles from the Highway Patrol,, my nearest help.

They're not legal? Darn...lol
My rotty will give me a heads up.

It's still open so I guess I'll post. I have a 2 9mm pistols within arms reach of me at this moment, both stacked with 124gr +P PDX1's. I hope I don't wake the neighbors...

It would suck because I don't have anything locked 'n' loaded and ready, that means I gotta get 'em with the katana.

Its going to be hard to get in at my place. Both doors open out not in, so they have to get a pry bar and pry it open. Also both doors are metal :D

locked door

we moved to Delaware about 5 years ago, lower Delaware, but we lived up state where it was crazy,,,I was born and raised in Westerner pa where i never locked my doors and left my keys in all my trucks.but here is a lil different,,not soo much crime here, but you never know.to make a long story short, yes we do keep the doors locked,i sleep with my 40cal under my pillow, and a very short barrel 12 gage at arms length,,,,just in case.Someone asked me if there ever a break in would you shoot the intruder in the back as they was fleeing???now that is a tough one because my jack Russel would be hanging on to his leg,,!

We've taken to keeping the doors locked most all the time when we're at home and indoors.

I put a second Gunvault in a central location on ground floor to decrease the time it takes me to put a condition 1 pistol in my hand. This is also the hand gun that my wife likes and shoots the best.

Plan would be to send wife upstairs with kids pronto, while I get to the GV. If we can pull that off before the door gives complete way and the BG can negotiate his way into the center of the house, the element of surprise will quickly shift teams

How soon can you arm yourself? What about any other family members? Will someone else call 911 immediatly or will you worry about that later? Is your front door always locked if you are home or just when you go to bed? These are just somethings I was thinking about tonight.

Don't worry, it's just the grammar police. ;)

If my door was actually being kicked in my only thought would be to get armed and engage the threat before they got to my bedroom, because my front door is pretty close to my bedroom. Hopefully my wife will wake up (she can sleep through hurricanes) and call 911, but priority number 1 would be getting armed and ready before he gets through. I live out in the country, I don't have neighbors. My front door is usually unlocked if I a home and walking in and out. My doors are always locked after dark.

All my doors open outwards... so good luck kicking any of them in.
Thats awesome. I need to replace a door this fall into our house and I will get one that swings out.

My wife gets so mad at me... EVERYTIME I walk through a door I lock it behind me. She is starting to catch on, but still gets mad when we come in from the car and if she is more then a few steps behind me she gets a locked door :)

As far as the rest of the thread, bravado.... I am not a ninja warrior, trained swat or ex special forces... I hope to do the best for my family and myself. I am not sure what I will do, but I hope that my skills with a firearm and knowledge of my house will help. Some of you scare me.

My doors are always unlocked unless we are asleep. Keys to my $35,000 truck are always in it. Is that bad??

I do have quite a gun collection in a very nice safe. I can be armed in less that a minute I would guess.

I've always worried about no knock warrants. Although I would give them no reason to do that too me, they do get the wrong house by mistake sometimes. But, seriously how can they expect to not get shot at, or at least see me holding a gun, if they just bust into my house in the middle of the night without announcing that they are the police? I don't get it. Even if they do announce that they are the police is it too much to ask to be able to visually verify it before I open the door without getting shot at?

How soon can you arm yourself?

Less than 5 seconds

Will someone else call 911 immediatly or will you worry about that later?

Someone is kicking in my door, I'll worry about that later

Is your front door always locked if you are home or just when you go to bed?

Always locked with door jam and reinforced strike plates and screws

I made a personal decision recently to myself to grab the AR in an HD situation. I run a Springer Precision mag coupler on my P Mags so I got 60 rounds of Hornady TAP BTHP in .223 ready to ruin someone's world.

Which door? All entrances including garage have security doors AND solid core steel covered. Bedroom door is solid core and reinforced. No living areas in the front so perp is walking down a hallway that is easily covered. Windows and sliding glass door have break resistant film. Solar powered motion sensor floods and a beagle (Ever try to sneak up on one? Barking is their LIFE. Then only better "watch dog" is a Guinea Hen.) Doesn't LOOK like a fortress, but try getting in if you are locked out. Shotgun is cruiser ready and sitting by the bed. Wife's revolver is on the other side loaded and ready. No kids in the house. Oh, and the police station is literally one block away and one of their surveillance cameras is pointed at my front yard (they love cameras in this town).

From the first warning, I could make a pot of coffee, drink a cup, call 911, tell them to zoom in, and sit in the bedroom reading a book and watch the arrest on the evening news.

Doors always locked, of course. Handgun is within reach, virtually always, without need to walk anywhere to get it; usually it is on my person. When sleeping, the duty shotgun is one big step from the bed. Puppybeasts make sure nothing goes unnoticed.

Keys left inside vehicles? This is the greater Houston area; that was a bad idea 40 or 50 years ago; more certainly these days.

I won't be more specific; google is the enemy of my privacy. It is not very difficult for someone to get a pretty good idea of who I am.

I won't count on my dogs to be more than alarms, because some crooks come prepared to deal with dogs. Dogs may be great, but they have one weapon, apiece; a dog fights with his face. A pack of dogs is much more formidable, but one large can of OC spray can seriously inhibit a pack of dogs.

It would suck because I don't have anything locked 'n' loaded and ready
No offense, but the only way that can be used for self defense is if you throw it at em..

My door is always locked. Glock 30 within reach, 12 gauge less than 10 feet away. Rifled slugs and 00 buck all the way. Just call a hearse... Or as my buddy carl says a "hurst"

1) Door are always locked.
2) Both dogs bark.
3) The gun is within reach.

And at night, the wireless alarm system is set. Somebody who thinks they can cut wires and disable the alarm is in for a surprise.

Take the hinges off...

That's why outside hinges should be welded, like the ones on my security door.

That is usually why doors open inwards to begin with.

Probably, but it's a poor trade-off because it's quicker and easier to kick in an ordinary home entry door.

Will someone else call 911 immediatly or will you worry about that later?

Someone else will probably make the call immediately, but if not, then I will if I can spare the time and attention. This is because I can't know ahead of time what kind of help, if any, my family and I will need, and whether we can even call for help then. On the other hand, if the need to defend is immediate (i.e. they're actually getting inside despite my fortifications), then I'll call for assistance later ("Get three coffins ready...my mistake--four coffins." ;)).

Doors are locked, if disturbance is heard 1903 is in hand. If more disturbance is heard I get out of my room. If door is forced open I chamber a round, assess the threat. If the threat needs to be neutralized than so be it. 911 is immediately dialed after my house is secure. (Yes I know .32ACP is not an ideal round for SD, but it's what I have. I plan on buying a 1911 soon to fix this problem.)
