When I was a kid...
The Earth was just beginning to get some curve to it.
It took some getting used to, from being flat. *wink*
Tee-vee and Mo-vee's had guns like "we" did.
When the Stork dropped me into my dresser draw crib, there was a revolver, holster, and ammo already in it, along with other "stuff" like knife, boxing gloves, Zippo Lighter, pack of Lucky Strikes, and ...
Somewhere amongst all this stuff, was a baby boy, born pre-mature. *smile*
We did not have TV when I was born, but the movies I first saw were home movies ( and slides) of folks I knew, friends of folks I knew, and "Army training movies".
I get bigger, and we get a TV, as did others and folks had Model 10s, Colt Detective Specials, Ithaca 37s, H&R Toppers, Model 12s, Gov't Model of 1911, BHP, M1 Carbine, M1 Garand, Model 94 Winchester in "thutty-thutty...
My first "toy" gun, was a 1911 looking dart gun with suction darts. It had a " Colt" on it just like the real gun".
I actually got a pair of these, and later other pairs of these. TVs had a test pattern, with a "injun" on it.
My next toy was a lever action "94" that shot corks.
A boy has to have his 1911, and "94" to shoot injuns on the TV.
A Podiatrist buddy of mine, and his daughter, also a Podiatrist, got to shooting the bull and
"The reason parents and grandparents have the foot troubles they have, is because of stepping on all them corks and suction darts, we kids left all over the house growing up."
His daughter added "...and Army men, Cowboy and Injun, Krauts and Japs, and ...
I never had the "gangster gun" [Thompson in a violin case], still I looked good on the "running board" with a lever action, single barrel, or double barrel shotgun and 1911 pistols.
We had to use the "running board" on the John Deere tractor to kill the invading german/japs/injuns/ ...
Laugh if you want, but the South never had germans invade by tank, or japs kamikaze in when I was a kid.
True.
Some black-n-white "space" show was on tv, and "what kind of stupid thing is that?" I asked.
"It is supposed to be a gun", mentors said.
"No, that is not a gun, that is a real gun" I said pointing to a Gov't Model of 1911, on the hip of a mentor.
I ain't changed a whole lot...
*grin*
