Your favorite S&W 357

I have owned a fair number of S&W .357 revolvers. These are the three I love the most:
1) 3.5" Model 27
2) 4" Model 586/686 (they shoot the same, but the blue 586 is SOO much prettier).
3) 2.5" Model 19/66 (same as above, the blue 19 is so much prettier).
As long as they are pre-1997, I don't care about dash number; the quality of the individual gun matters more. To me each of the above represents the best virtue of it's frame size and barrel length. I value guns that balance well, shoot well, and carry easily, so that's why I choose the above. Others may have different barrel lengths they like, but I've owned and tried multiple lengths in each frame, and these are the ones I'd keep above all others.

current production would be the M-627...the downside would be that once you've felt the trigger and seen the workmanship, your GP-100 will be jealous because you'll never shoot it.

Being old and conservative I prefer the early models and am not familiar with current production models. My favorite DA revolver of all time is the Model 27 and variants.
I like the old ones...

The 5" may be my favorite. Blue or nickel is fine by me...

6" mod 28.
It's the .357 magnum I setteld on after trying all sorts (Taurus -forgot the model-, Ruger GP 100, Colt King Cobra, S&W 586 -although I also kept this last one-)
It has been with me like forever (or so it seems). Never ever failed me, still 100% reliable, extremely accurate with a very broad variety of loads, both .38 and .357M and its action must be felt to be believed (without any customizing)
The only modification I performed was substituting the small factory grip panels with Pachmayr Gripper Pro's

It was always the top one - a '01-'02 JM PC627 V-Comp - until last year - that 627 pro has been a favorite for over a year now. The PC gun has a slightly better trigger, but the 'pointability' of the smaller 627 Pro - combined with the search light HiViz front sight - have really made it fun. Finally getting some Starline .357M brass ($114/1k delivered) - and Ranch Products 8-hole moonclips ($50/50 delivered) helped. Fun shooter. The Ahrends Retro Targets help the fast grab, too.

For occasional .357 my Mod 19/6" is great. But if I was shooting a steady diet of them and shooting a lot then I'd prefer my Mod 28/6". This is based on shooting for fun since up here we don't get to carry so the gun's weight isn't an issue when you're just lifting it to shoot at targets or in some sort of match at the range.

Just can't beat a well cared for 586. Its the only one of the bunch that can stand toe to toe with the Colt Python and still look good.

I love my 4" Model 65. Even though it has fixed sights, I can shoot the center out the target at ~20 yards all day long w/.38spcl handloads.
