The biggest improvement to the AR will be OTC suppressors and SBR's.

I don't see SBRs ever being taken off the NFA. In fact, I see them getting banned, just like machine guns. But I think there's a real possibility that suppressors will be at least partially deregulated, such that anyone who can buy a firearm can buy a suppressor without too much additional hassle. By that time, however, simply getting a gun, any gun, might be as or more difficult than getting ATF approval for a current NFA item today.
