Your pick for a single stack 9mm that is NOT a 1911 design

For CCW, the Sig 239 if you don't mind the expense, or the Smith 3913 if you do mind the expense. Sig mags are more expensive, the gun is more expensive, and the leather gear runs towards the higher end. The Smith is less expensive to start, the mags are less expensive, and more :generic" carry gear is available at lower prices.

For fun at the range or in the nightstand drawer, Walther P-1.
For carry, general range work, or anything else you can do with a self-shucker, S&W 908
Both are accurate, handy, and affordable.

hk p7
walther p5
sig p6
s&w 3900
beretta 92 compact m type L (or something like that)
walther p1/p38/p4

i would say the kahr k-9 i have a k-40 and i love, it so if i was going for a single stack 9mm that is not a 1911 design then i would go straight for the k9 most likly the k9 elite.

As mentioned, Sig P239 9mm

Accurate, dependable, reliable, "easy" to disassemble, inspect, clean, and reassemble..

A Norinco 213. It's their TT33 in 9 MM. Absolutely magnificent pistol: simple, flat, reliable, easy to break down/repair, pleasant to shoot and freakin' target gun accurate. Over all, it's a great gun.

Had two, sold 'em both. They fed okay, inaccurate as hell. Do good to get a 5" 25 yard group from a rest. I have pocket pistols that do better than that. :barf: Safety operation sux. Condition two carry is not the safest. Condition three is about the only way to carry the thing. It's flat, it's light, it has a friggin' chain masterlink spring on the side of it, ROFLMAO! Sights suck. Manual says "2500 round life expectancy" and the one I'd put a thousand or so rounds through was already pounding the slide where it meets the frame into a mushroom. The triggers were AWEful, practically took two fingers on one of 'em.

Uh, NO. I got rid of 'em before they broke. They had no real redeeming value, but they were cheap. Got 'em for a hundred a pop. Sold 'em for that. My Phoenix Arms HP22 is a more useful gun, put it that way, LOL! It's quite a bit more accurate even with the 3" barrel.

What's w/ the plastic backstrap, then? Sure felt like a grip safety to me....

I'm at the Smith site and only one of three models has that plastic backstrap. It's most definitely NOT a grip safety, perhaps it's just some form of cushion.

I'd slap a standard ambi-slide safety on that and carry it locked and cocked in a heartbeat.

Or maybe if Smith grew a clue, they'd release the 952 in DA/SA with a four inch barrel and a Scanadium frame, maybe call it the 339PD.

Until then, scrounge for a 3913 or a 908.
The HK P7 is sweet.
I miss the M43 Firestar.
I also miss the Astra A70 with it's decocker.
And I've always wanted to have a Walther P5.

Look for used P38's or P1's too. I've been watching I Spy with Robert Culp, and I seriously envy his P38K.
