As the title implies, someone I met at the range is offering to sell me a Yugo Underfolder with wood forearm. This Yugo is used, but I have seen and shot it myself(seller is a nice guy) and this comes with the pistol grip that is not the, I think what is referred to as "US Grip" but the original pistol grip. He is offering me the Yugo for $500, and I am curious as to if that is a good deal for this firearm, this USED firearm.
I have seen brand new currently sold Yugos for $489, but they are the black ones with the new grips. I have tried searching for this wood forearm type Yugo but have not found any positive results so I am not sure as to what it goes for when it is sold. Any ideas?

ive seen the wood ones for the same price as the polymer furniture. The black polymer is pretty nice it's what I bought, but i replaced it with a quad rail anyway. The important thing is that you ensure that it is in proper working order. I had to replace the hammer spring on mine from the factory.

Search for Ironwood. I don't remember the URL. They can make you a nice wood set for your rifle.

That said, if you like the one you held, and have inspected it closely, including the gas block, for signs of corrosion or pitting, I would buy that one over a pig in the poke. Century firearms have a reputation for poor build quality and substandard parts. The one you buy "new" may not be as nice.

Good luck.

You need to see how it is marked to know who made it. It could be anything from an original import (highly unlikely, a few got in and worth 2-3 times the asking price) or Wise Lite Arms or a Century. Here is a Century:

Or a one off from a parts kit build

Century used wood, still shows wood on there webpage (they actually subcontracted building these out, some people have issues with their in house built guns). The plastic guards have been known to melt.

I have a mixed parts Century and it works great, my truck gun.

I'm assuming this is the Century Yugo UF you're talking about. First, these are not your typical Century guns ( WASR's, FAL & HK clones) that have been so problematic for so many people. These are actually very slick rifles.
I had one a while back, and really liked it, but let it go for a pile of cash during the post-election AW panic.
They came with 1.6 mmm recievers rather than the thinner 1.0 that is most common, though I think I read that the newer ones have the thinner reciever. The wood foregrip on these is teak rather than the cheaper laminate that is common on many AK's. They seem to have sold less of these with the teak than the black synthetc, and no one sells, the wood version anymnore, that I've been able to find. Keep in mind ( if it matters to you), these have U.S. made barrels that are not chrome lined.
Since you've already determined this rifle to be a good shooter, I'd say $500 even is a good deal, if you're at all interested in an AK, you should jump on it.
The fact that it's a FTF sale with no paperwork, is just icing on the cake.

Yes! I believe it is the one with the teak wood furniture, it has a rich colo that I love. It is an underfolder as well, so I am assuming I would not be able to purchase Ironwood products then? Or is there some way to put a wood stock on an underfoldking AK? I am not familiar with AK parts whatsoever, every AK I have shot has been an underfolder.

If you have shot it and know everything works fine with it, I would say that is the best deal of them all. I bought my WASR off a former coworker that had already dealt with some previous issues and got it all in perfect working order. If anything, I would say that is worth more than the risk of having to do all that yourself.

No, you can't put a fixed stock on a Yugo underfolder. It takes a different rear trunnion, and even if you got it changed out you'd still have the big holes in the receiver from the folder. I'd grab the M70AB2 you are being offered, sounds like a fair deal. The fixed stock model is the M70B1.

Also keep in mind that that $489 is + shipping, tax, FFL transfer fees and background check fees (or at least background + tax if local). I sold my Yugo a few months back for $550. It's a lot of gun for the money, IMO.

Awesome, yes I now feel confident enough to go through with it. I already have my AR-15, I now need my AK-47 before anymore restrictions or bans go into effect.

yugo AK 47

I have had them both in stock and sold both. The Century was nice and the Yugo worked equally well. I think the finish work on the Yugo was much better but that did not do anything for the shooting part of it. Nice thing is parts are not to expensive and its something you can tinker a bit with and not get into to much trouble. I have had a lot of customers use them to learn some basic gunsmith work. Spud has about everything you would want for them so I dont think you can go to wrong if that is the type of gun you are looking for.
