I used to hate snub nose .38's.

I understood the utility and convenience of j frames so I got a S&W Model 640 with the boot grips. I hated it. I really could not hit the broadside of a barn with it. And recoil was unpleasant too. Practiced with it a lot but could not see any significant improvements. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Fast forward about 1 1/2 years later I decided to rent a j frame for the heck of it. I don't know what happened since then but I shot it a lot better than before and I actually had a good time shooting it. So I purchased a new S&W Model 60 with combat grips (which helps) and with each range session I'm getting better and better. It really is turning out to be one of my favorite handguns. I'll be shooting magnum loads out of it soon. :p Yeah, I wish I kept that 640 but thats water under the bridge. :rolleyes:

Anyone else do an about face on a particular handgun?

Most of them are great little guns and I loved my P32 but for me.....NO....

Never hated it; just didn't like it as well as my other guns.

The gun had a trigger pull long enough to make it practically impossible to keep on-target; the trigger pinched my finger unmercifully, it ejected brass back onto my head, the checkering was so rough that it would practically remove a layer of skin after each shooting session (I finally sanded it down) It had numerous jams and light strikes: it kicked like a mule, and the mag springs were so stiff it was an ordeal to load rounds into.

Other than that, it was fine......just fine.

Would I buy another one? Why, of course, since mine was a very early edition and I'm aware that the newer offerings are superior.

Top of my "Gun's That I Hate List"- sits the Smith & Wesson
Sigmas. Never have liked them; and still don't!:D I always
thought of them as a rip-off toward the Glock pistol's.

And when I encountered a Smith & Wesson factory rep
at my local dealer, telling a perspective buyer of a Sigma
.380:

"they're only good for 2,500 rounds; after that throw it away and buy yourself a new one"

that really put a bad taste in my mouth, concerning those
Smith piece's of plastic. Another thing, I always felt that
they were treading real close to copyright lawsuits from
not only Glock; but SIG as well, for using the name SIG-MA!

And as you and I know, there is a world of difference
between a SIGMA, and a SIG "classic P-series" self-
loader.

HAHAHA Me too!

I got "lucky" and my first pistol was a USP Compact .45...

I say "lucky" cause I paid my own money for it... So I really saved up for it.
 
I used to hate my Taurus model 94 (22lr revolver w/ 4" barrel). Heavy trigger w/ self adjusting sights (sights constantly moving). Hardly ever shot it. Tried to sell it many a time too. Then a couple years ago, I picked it up knowing how heavy the trigger is & wanted to really teach myself how to shoot DAO. After countless rounds & a few drops of lock tite on the rear sight, I've come to appreciate it.
 
Didn't used to like "1911" style handguns. Came from 1 experience with shooting 1 that was so loose it sounded like a bucket full of ball bearings, and looked more like a buckshot pattern. Buddy finally admitted he had "loosened things up a bit" with his dremel tool.

Now, though my favorite .45ACP is my Springfield Champion model 1911-A1
 
Prepping self for flames...HKs. Don't like the controls, don't like the grip, don't like the price.
 
I used to badmouth Glocks until I got a real good deal on one (Glock 21). I intended to sell it, but I took it out and ran a box of ammo through it. It suprised me how well I could shoot it, and how much better it feels firing live ammo than dry firing. It makes a world of difference. If you have only dry fired one, and hate them, try putting a few rounds downrange. It changed my opinion of them.

They are not the end all be all of pistols, but they certainly are not crap. My carry gun is now a Glock 26.
 
I'm ditto on the USP, plenty of reliable autos out there that are smaller, less expensive, and with better ergonomics.
 
"Hate" is such a strong word...

I used to be pretty indifferent towards S&W revolvers and 1911's, now I'm pretty indifferent towards handguns that aren't S&W revolvers or 1911's. ;)
 
I dislike anything that has a polymer grip. Especially it is a two by four double stack grip like Glock or USP.

Glock has better trigger, but it is ugly with no manual safeties. USP is rugged, but trigger :barf: .

I'd pick BHP, 1911, HK P7M8, and Walther P series (prior to 99) over them any time.

These are personal opinions, so it might not be a fair observation.
 
The question was not "A handgun you hate" but "a handgun you USED TO hate"

I was asking about guns you've reconciled with or learned to love. Instead many posters fixated on the word "hate" and thought it was yet another opportunity to bash Brand X, Y, or Z.

When I first saw the Glock 17, I thought it was the ugliest POS I'd ever laid eyes on. Then I shot one. Then I bought one and it's been my CCW for over 15 years.
 
I have a TZ-75 Series 88 that I used to hate, until I discovered that a lighter recoil spring made it 100% reliable. Now it is my favorite 9mm target pistol.
 
Used to hate M1911s and .45ACP round. It epitomized everything old and uncool. Glocks were cool then because they were plastic and held lots of 9mm bullets.

I've since grown up. and have reversed my opinions.
 
I used to think the Luger was the dumbest looking handgun made. Compared to a 1911 it has that skinny little barrel sticking out. Well then I inherited a P38. I like to shoot it and for some reason it doesn't look all that funny. Now I find myself wanting a Luger.
 
I originally hated the Glock 22 I was issued a few years ago, but have grown to love it..

I wanted something smaller, like a Sig 229, or USP Compact...G23 etc...

However.........

For me:

there is no simpler,

durable,

rustproof,

concealable,

accurate,

reliable,

hard-hitting,

high-capacity pistol

on the market made by any other manufacturer.....than the Glock 22.

The 155 Gr. Border Patrol load, I get from my BP friends, is one hard hitting round!

I don't know what it chrono's, but it feels hotter than the Corbon 135 and Gold Dot 165's and 180's I shoot......It may be hotter, because it is BP issue..

Who knows?
 
I used to think revolver in general were outdated and not good for much but slowly, I am turning into more and more of a revolver guy. The first handgun I ever shot was my dad's S&W 27 with 8 3/8" bbl. I was 12 years old and I was afraid of the recoil because my dad only loaded max power .357s. It stung my hand and it was heavy. I couldn't shoot well with it and I grew to hate it. Now I have several nice S&W and Ruger revolvers and they are some of my favorite guns.

I tend to buy and sell a lot of guns in the search for what I really like but it just seems wrong to sell a good revolver. They are so cheap now with all the semi-auto craze but the quality that goes into a nice S&W is amazing. They are worth much more than they cost. Some people think they are outdated for CCW but for a house/car gun they work great. The light weight snubbies are some of the best CCWs anywhere. Nothing beats a revolver for accuracy and power at a good price too. Most good S&W .357/.38s with shoot as well as a high dollar custom semi-auto but they cost much less. For me, cost is a factor, I can't see buying several $2000 semi-autos just for fun but I can see buying several $200-400 S&W revolvers just for fun.
 
Used to hate 1911s mainly because everyone doted on them. Now I find I like STIs and a few others. On and I found that I like Super 38s more than .45s
 
I used to hate SIGs.

I thought they were meant for elitist right-handed snobs.

Now I know better.
