I'm interested in which guns just didn't work for you and you ended up selling, and why:

1. Taurus m85: many trips back to factory, forcing cone jammed the gun within 6 rounds every time, couldn't trust it at all

2. Taurus pt145: nothing wrong with it at all, it was a great gun, got rid of it after Taurus refused to tell me if I'd get it back after sending in for the recall.

3: Keltec p3at: had one trip back to factory with jamming, they fixed it great, I just wanted to move up to the 9mm pf9 model

4. Charter Arms in .357: I don't know the exact model it was, I was given it as a gift, but hated it. It was heavy, and way to bulky for ccw.

Sold my M1 Garand because I needed money. It was the firearm with the least practical value to me at the time. Since my financial situation has improved I never felt a huge need to replace it.

I have sold or traded more guns than I can remember. I only keep one of each class of firearm (but I can be a little liberal on what constitutes a different class). My most memorable losses for reasons other than "I just don't care for it":

Beretta 92FS; my first handgun, waited for years after seeing Lethal Weapon to turn 21 to buy it. Sold it because it wouldn't fit in the glove box of a 1995 Mustang GT convertible. Seriously.

Every Taurus I ever owned (I've owned 6); inconsistent, unreliable, slide rusted the first time I carried it SOB after cleaning, etc.

Glock 19 and Glock 17. Loved the idea of having a Glock, since everyone has one, wanted to turn the 17 into a race gun just 'cuz, thought the hardware would improve groups more than practice. Never could get used to the grip angle.

Maverick 88. Needed the money to buy a Glock. Less than a year later, bought another Maverick.

My first AR15. Right after Sandy Hook, prices through the roof, dealer offered me more than new cost with all of my accessories, and the 4WD had just gone out in my Tahoe. Prices came down, and I built another AR15, using what I had learned about likes and dislikes from the first one.

I've sold or traded more guns in the past 30 years than i can easily recall. I only seriously regret a few of them, and a couple turned out in retrospect to have been REAL stupid deals. But most have been equitable deals I was satisfied with, or even worked in my favor a bit.
Many of the times I'd let something go was because I needed the money to get into something else that I really wanted (unfortuantely, I can't afford to keep them ALL!).
Like most everyone, I go through ever-fluctuating phases of interest. I'll like polymer, striker fired pistols, then I get to liking all metal guns more. I used to be a big fan of Euro semi autos, then came to be a revolver bug. I find 1911's to be quirky pains in the ass, but when i don't have one, i get to missing having one (I definitely got a love-hate relationship with those things,LOL!! )
Some have been partly in the interest of consolidating, or getting away from, certain calibers. Sometimes I'm leaning towrds light, compact EDC guns, other times i'm digging more full sized pistols.
Also, given that I'm convinced Califiornia/NY-type gun restrictions (and worse) are inevitable for the entire USA, I've been gradually moving away from the high-cap semi-autos, and towards stuff that I used to dismiss, like lever and bolt guns, revolvers and pump shotguns. The big AW panics of the past 8 years (as well as the classfied sites like Armslist) have been REAL helpful in this regard. :D

Springfield XD9 Service: Never felt quite right to me. Eventually sold it for a 1911, haven't looked back.

Taurus 66 .357 Mag 6": Traded for a 4" 686, which is a very nice gun of course, but I still miss that nice Taurus.

Heritage Rough Rider Combo: Traded for a 4" Taurus 94, that turned out to be complete garbage. Missed the Heritage so much I bought another a few years ago.

Taurus 94: Sold and bought a S&W K-22. Definitely haven't looked back.

Yugo M-PAP M70 and later an O-PAP: Both sold because I could never get used to the funky stock configuration. After several years without an AK, I've the itch has come back :D. Have my 3rd AK on order, a DDI MOE (stock seems to fit me perfectly), so we'll see.

Ammo standardization...

Even when I buy a gun with some reasonable justification, it seems that me main reason for getting rid of then had boiled down to ammo standardization. I once got a good deal on a Carcano, but then O thought about it and decided I didn't want to bother with finding ammo. Sold it before I ever shot it. Same with a Ruger SP-01 in .32 Mag. I ought the ability to shot a variety of softer-recoiling rounds would be a benefit for a girlfriend, but I broke up with her, and 12 years later, realized I had never shot the gun or even bought ammo for it.

Guns come , guns go. At least a few hundred. Many have had good points, Many were total crap. All the guns I have now are good guns but that doesnt mean I'll keep them all for the long run. I might see a squirrel tomorrow and dump every single one of them to acquire that squirrel.

Walther P22... Had a friend who was looking for one and I hadn't shot it much lately so I let it go. Will probably replace with either a PPQ in .22 for platform consistency or a S&W Victory .22.

Beretta 84F. Too wide to carry IWB comfortably, too weak a round to carry OWB. Got offered a good deal for it and sold it. Also hated the magazine disconnect.

What guns have you sold/got rid of...
nearly every one I ever bought.
and why?
Because I can't afford to own one of everything...at least, not all at the same time.

--Maintain a modest inventory. Your budget and safe space willgive you gentle reminders when you exceed either.
--Want to buy one? Find one to sell.
--Buy used, at or under market value.

In this manner, I can afford to "buy and try" nearly anything that I find truly interesting, without losing my shirt. Aside from ammo (which I handload, for the most part) and the occasional FFL transfer fee (not applicable if buying FTF) I break even more often than not.

In the last 35 years, I have bought probably 100 guns, and sold most of them, keeping (or buying again) those that I could not live without. Along the way:
--probably 30 S&W revolvers, the vast majority being pre-ILS.
--right at 25 1911s from RIA to Guncrafter, with multiple examples from Springfield, Colt, Kimber, Para, S&W and one each from Dan Wesson and Les Baer.
--six HK P7s, including PSPs, an M13 and two M10s.
--A dozen ARs in 5.56,.300 BLK, 7.62x39 and .308, and almost half a dozen Minis in 5.56 and x39.
--three LCPs (for some reason, I keep selling them, and then get the urge to own one)
...and a bunch of others.

I call it "serial ownership" and it's worked pretty well so far. I've gotten to own and shoot a $5000 1911 (.50 GI), the M10/M13s and a DW 10mm CBOB, a Hamilton Bowen-tuned 4" S&W M25 in .45LC, and am set up to handload for 10mm, .41 Mag as well as all the more common cartridges from .380 thru .45LC (I did pass along the .50 GI dies and brass to the new owner.)

I truly miss a few of them:
--1957 S&W M17
--6" S&W M27
--aforementioned 4" Bowen S&W M25
--it's 6" sister M25, also in .45LC
--6" S&W M57

Hmmmm...I'm seeing a pattern here...

Too many to list them all, plus quite a few were sold off during struggling economic times. Did have a few memorable ones though:

Charter Arms Undercover .38 Special-This was back in the day when they were supposedly building the "good ones". First 50 rounds of 148 gr. wadcutters had the frame pins walking out and the whole cylinder/crane assembly coming loose.

Astra Model 900-Nothing wrong with it, well built and accurate; just that 9mm. in a straight blowback pistol was not a good idea; especially if you valued doing anything with your shooting hand after putting 50 rounds through the gun.

Taurus PT111 Gen. 3-Another decent gun but I could never get comfortable with the grip design and the gun always seemed to be pointing high for me when I brought the sights on target.

Colt Agent-This was one of those poorly assembled/cosmetically challenged revolvers Colt offered during their labor unrest years. I thought "Hey it's a Colt; they've been building these things for a long time. What could go wrong with it?" Apparently a lot as I couldn't get through 6 rounds before the cylinder became jammed up against the forcing cone of the barrel. Seems the cylinder assembly was not quite properly aligned with the frame.

Ruger GP100-Loved every Security/Service/Speed Six I owned and deeply regret selling or trading them all off. I thought the GP100 would be a new and improved version of the Security Six and while it may have been from a manufacturing standpoint it wasn't all that great for me. Never did warm up to the new grip assembly, the trigger was very rough and heavy, and the accuracy just wasn't there. When I had to sell off some of my guns for school, the GP100 was one of the first to go.

Bunches of them. Most of them were guns I realized would just sit in the safe and not be shot. Once a gun gets to that point, I generally sell it. There are a few "collector" pieces in the safe, but not many.

Off the top of my head:

S&W .22 cal revolver...had no need or desire for it
Beretta Cheeta .380
Bereta 92
Steyr GB
HK USP 40 - just never pointed naturally for me
Several old WWII guns that I picked up in auctions.

I don't hoard them. If they aren't getting used, then they are probably getting sold.

Only one, Sig Mosquito, POS. Never could fire a full mag without a jam even with minimags as recommended. Sad to say an old Jennings J22 I Bought years ago in my trapping days is more reliable.

I fall into the way to many to list crowd. I got tired of being an accumulator.

Now I buy em just to try em and very few make the cut to a permanent resident. Ive grown extremely picky over the years.

The reasons seem kinda dubious, in retrospect. Bro in law says he's never sold anything..........maybe wise policy.
some of them:
Remington 600 in .22-250, a tack driver. Thought I wanted a semi auto. :banghead:
Browning Hi Power and S&W 669. Thought I was done with 9mm. Recently acquired a Ruger LC9S.
Ruger Blackhawk convertible .45. Had a Super Blackhawk in .44 mag, thought they were redundant. Then I sold the .44.
Mossberg 500, with 18 and 26" bbls, pistol grip and conventional stocks, that had the slickest action I've ever felt in a pump SG. Shoulda kept that one.
Gave a Winchester 1400 to my son in law. Then they got divorced.
Rossi 92 in .45LC, that I'd slicked up and shot in competition. Moved to a place that didn't have that competition, so I sold it.
NAA folding .22 belly gun. One that I don't really regret.
ditto .25 Beretta Jet Fire
Colt Anaconda in .45LC, that was worth so much more than what I paid for it, I thought a "collector" should have it. Then I remembered that I had a full ammo can full of .45LC, with nothing to shoot it out of.

I sold all of my DA pistols because I went exclusively to Glocks for HD/work/competition/everything else- Sigs, Berettas, all DA's. I sold all of my revolvers that didn't have historical significance- S&W, Ruger, Taurus. I sold all the 1911's that didn't have historical significance or collector value, or didn't live up to expectations- newer Kimbers, Springfields. I got rid of most all the Euro stuff- G3, FAL, AKs and SKS. Cause the US makes better weapons. I got rid of my M1A and R25 cause I got a Larue OBR. I got rid of my 300 Win mag cause I have nowhere to shoot it to its full potential and ammo price. I got rid of my Tikka over under cause autos and pumps just work better for me. I got rid of my Ruger 77 30-06 cause I decided I like 308 better and got a Ruger American. Some of the ones I regret unloading: My python, my Colt Sp-1, many Colt series 70 1911's, a HK P7. Got rid of them cause of bad judgement at the time.

I needed the money, I gifted them to friends and relatives, or the firearm had become boring or unreliable.
The one unreliable was a Marlin .35 Remington I bought in 1977.

Unlike some THR members I think having guns in multiple calibers is a advantage. One of lessons from the Banic of 2013 - 2014 is when ammunition supplies dry up there are few choices left on the shelves. With guns in many different calibers it increase the chances of finding ammunition for some of them.

The last gun I regret selling is a S&W Model520. I needed money for bills and the fixed sights are hard to see so...I never thought I would see the day when the Federal Government declared war on Conservatives and gun owners.

I have a hard time parting with a gun, but as I age I realize I'm not as fond as I used to be of having lots of guns I rarely shoot.

So, at a recent gun show I found a Smith 29 Mountain Gun, the one they made for only a short time. It fits my hand better than the 29-3 I had, so for a few bucks difference I made the swap.

For all the threads complaining about gun shows, this is what they are good for to me -- finding a gun you'll likely never find on a store shelf that somehow fits your collection.

CZ 75 Compact.

I bought it here on THR in a group buy, purchased sight unseen and untouched.

I found out the trigger was too far forward, and the grip to wide for me to hold it properly, I would have to adjust my grip to fire and manipulate the controls.

I sold it because it didn't fit me.. lesson learned, don't buy a gun you haven't handled yourself.

Gone and no regrets

I came into a bunch of P'08 and a few P38 thru an inheritance. Sold them all and got quite a chunk of cash for them, along with them came a few K98k rifles. All gone too.
Storage issues and I do not want guns I am afraid to shoot because it would reduce their value to do so. I am not a collector of safe queens.

Forgot i had and sold the Walther p22!!

I carried that thing for a year before hearing about cracked frames and got rid of it.

Sigma....most impossible trigger I ever tried...2 trips back to Smith with no
improvement! Traded it in on a Sig and haven't looked back! Oh yeah....absolutely would not feed HydraShocks....
Dan

Ruger 10/22. It was a nice enough gun....sometimes I think I should have kept it but then I look at the dwinfling space in my gunsafe....:uhoh:
That's the only one I've sold. A number of guns I inherited from my father and they WILL NEVER GO.
Some others are guns I particularly like for one reason or another and I won't sell those either.
