What guns have you sold/got rid of, and why?

I've gotten rid of a LOT of guns over the years.

Unlike what everyone told me, I have never regretted selling the ones I have sold. I thought about it long and hard before I would sell them, and always made sure I would at least get my money back on them.

Do date, I firmly believe that I've made a decent net profit from selling guns I just didn't like anymore. I almost consider it like long-term renting in a way. I buy guns that I know I'll be able to sell later for a good price and take care of them when I own them. Places like Gun Broker have made reselling guns much for profitable for the return investment.

This has allowed me to own and shoot a great number of different guns over the years. I would have never been able to experiment and try out these designs if I just kept them all, plus I'd have no place to store them. I know you'll hear over and over "never sell any gun ever!" but that's just not true in every case. The only regret I have is selling a Chinese SKS that was in unfired condition still in cosmoline that was an uncommon variant that many considered to be one of the highest-quality SKS rifles ever made, this was a "French Tickler" SKS made for the Chinese military and not for export, having a special brown plastic upper handguard and made late in production. But, I sold it because it was one of the first guns I ever bought and I didn't know at the time what I had. This was before we had the internet as well!

Lately I've been selling off several of my Mosin Nagant rifles. The ammunition for them is no longer inexpensive and I do not enjoy shooting them at the range very much, please none of mine are particularly accurate. I'd rather spend the money on a modern .308 rifle and ammo. That being said I have an M39 Finn that I still haven't cleaned yet and I will be keeping it around for at least a while as I hear they are very accurate and I have some residual 7.62x54mmR ammo laying around that I need to burn up.

I've sold 30or 40 through the years, but only two do I really regret. A first year FN 1910 in .380 with original holster. A 1903 Colt with Diamond A stamp (WW 1 Belgium).

1-Ithaca Model 37 Riot, marked DKPD with rack number 037. Paid $80, got $100 on trade for Rem 700 in .30-06. My 1st upgrade from .30-30 lever deer rifle. Wish I had it back.

2-Beretta, SA 12 ga. Don't remember the model. Too big for me at the time. Traded for something. Don't remember what. Don't miss it much. It was a good looking gun though.

3- Some old .22lr, that looked like a M-16 A1 triangular hand guard. Fake mag fixed, with actual mag slide inside the fake one. Never dependable. Upgraded to 10-22 and never looked back.

4-CAR-15 A1, non Colt but when there were very few manufacturers. Not the most reliable. When that nut case shot up the CA playground w/ the AK my dad traded it for a Springfield 1873 Trapdoor. I got a .300 WM Model 70, Moss 835, and a 2nd year production Mini14 out of it. Thought I came out pretty good, then and now.

5- Glock 22, decided that I wasn't a fan of plastic. Traded to a friend for a brand new Stihl MS 390 chainsaw. A .357 Sig barrel, ~400 rounds of ammo, 6-800 pieces of brass, and 2 holsters were included. We both came out very well. I've gotten much more use from the chainsaw.

6- Taurus Judge, 1st year production. In fact it was the very 1st Judge I ever saw. Never even saw anything in the gun rags about until after I purchased it. Nothing more than a range toy. Sold it to a friend, with a holster for $400, in '09 after the housing market collapsed. Would love to have it back, or another. It was fun hitting skeet with it.

7- Rem 11-87, didn't fit me. Sold to a friend for his son. Upgraded to a Franchi and never looked back.

30 years in guns, sold/traded just 7. Only 2 are missed.
