Fun question for the Forum. I love my Beretta 21 in .22. It locks into my hand, points perfectly and is reliable with CCI ammo. That said, it’s not that accurate, is underpowered, and has a low capacity. Also, I have many other much more expensive and practical handguns. Does anyone else have a favorite pistol that just doesn’t make sense as your favorite?

I might say the SP101 in .357. I've loved that gun ever since I saw it in guns&ammo when I was a kid (early 90's I'd guess?). Its a really great gun to be sure and it fits my hand perfectly with the houge rubber grip... But its heavy and only has 5 shots... But its probably my favorite.

As a bonus, once it runs dry I can just beat the bad guy to death with it.

This one began as a S&W British .455 HE MkII back in 1916. Somebody converted it to 45 Colt and chopped the barrel. When I got it, the barrel was bulged. I got an unfired Brazilian 45 ACP barrel and had it chopped to 3 1/2"
I got a post war 45ACP cylinder that had been reamed for 45 Colt, but it also would take 45ACP with moon clips and 45 Auto Rim.

I found out that 45 Winchester Magnum brass is merely 45ACP brass elongated to 45 Colt configuration. Thus this gun will fire 45 ACP, 45 Auto Rim, 45 Colt, and 45 Mag brass loaded to 45 Colt velocities and pressures in moon clips.
It puts them right where you point the the gun. No alibis with this rascal.

I carried it every day until just recently.

I love my PF9. It shoots anything I put in it, and it’s much nicer to carry than my XDs45.

I say that as the fit and finish is crap compared to the XDs. And it’s not fun to shoot for long periods due to the snappy recoil and awful trigger. Other than when I was learning to shoot, and after giving it a good cleaning and oiling it’s never had failures. Initial ones were do to bad form and learning to shoot.

But it’s the first pistol I bought. And I’m glad I didn’t sell it when I came close to selling it to a buddy.

Dumb is relative... and my safe is full of dumb kin.

TC Contender... heavy, single shot, break action pistol, but it's fun to ring steel at 150 with the tacticool warriors at the range missing the plate with red dot rifles.

357 Buntline Special...it's a 15" revolver. More so, it's a 357 built on a frame made for a 44 and they still stuck a 15" barrel on it. Again...tacticool guys cry when I ring steel with it after they whine about the contender being a specialty competition pistol.

30-1 is a 32long... it's a j frame that's too weak for defense but isn't a 22 or either, plus 3" barrel and fixed sights puts it in between pocket gun and target gun.

Ar15 pistol...loud, hard to use effectively, loud, flashy, heavy, it's kinda dumb but it sure is a lot of fun.

I don't have a "favorite", per se, but I have several that I like more than I feel I should. The Taurus PT-"tip-ups" in .22LR and .25ACP are really nice in the hand, and fun to shoot. They also have respectable magazine capacities. I own one of the former and two of the latter, and one of those "latters" is in stainless. They don't make much sense as carry pieces for me as my Kel-Tec P32 and Taurus TCP are both smaller, but I really do enjoy them.

I also have a nickel-finished Jennings J22 I bought new back in 1987. I don't carry it at all (never really did) and don't shoot it much, but it's another I like more than anyone should. It's slick in the hand, and is actually pretty accurate.

Probably the handgun I have that is the most-handsome to me is a three-inch Taurus 85 in stainless. But, I don't own any handguns that would fetch more than about $400, except for a recently-acquired Remington R1 Enhanced Commander, also in stainless, which I haven't even shot yet.

Come to think of it, my Taurus satin-stainless is another of my "odd-to-love" guns, especially since it doesn't give up its empties easily at all. I think it needs to go back to Taurus, likely because the chambers' diameters are too high. But I won't send it back there as it doesn't seem to make sense, since I live within 120 miles of Taurus and am down that way at least twice a year. I just haven't gotten around to following through. The gun is a very nice and accurate shooter otherwise; I just have to rap the ejector tip with something solid to extract the empties (live rounds slide around in those chambers easily.)

How can a man choose a favorite? That's like asking him which is his favorite child.
Nope, harder. With kids you can pick the one that will wait the longest before sticking you in "the home" which is probably also the one who likes to fish even on a slow day.

From the guy with no kids...For now.

DE44. No real practical value, pretty much at all. Since I would rather be mauled in the genitals by a rabid badger than use a
public range, it doesn't even have a cool factor, per se'. I just love to take it to the berm, and empty a box of rounds, now and then.

Astra A600. Tiny sights, stout recoil (its a blowback 9mm), heavy springs, rattles when you shake it, terrible trigger, awkward grip angle.....ugly?
I actually traded this in to the LGS for an FR8 carbine. Was a good trade, not sorry bout it. But when the Astra was still sitting there three months later, I felt sorry for it and bought it back. Only gun Ive ever sold and bought again!

I have one. I find it tucks well I’m my jeans pocket. Hell on rabbits. Also look into buffalo bore for ammo that puts it further back into self defense category.

I like my Hi Point cf380. It's fun to shoot. Accurate, short trigger, recoil is like a 22. The c9 is fun too.

A Taurus PT638. Which is a poly, locked breech, 15 shot .380. There's something about the ergonomics that make it feel like no other pistol I've ever shot. It shoots shockingly well and reloads are as cheap as .22.

Go figure.

Since this is in the General Handguns forum, revolvers are apparently fair game. :)

The dumbest favorite I have is my Ruger Single Six. The 9.5" barrel is long and unwieldy. The original grip was too small for such a muzzle heavy gun, so I put on a big grip that adds leverage and weight. My vision has degraded so I put on optics, currently a 2x scope that adds even more weight. I prefer to shoot .22 WMR out of it as I like the idea of the muzzle velocity the 9.5" barrel can attain.

The thing snowballed into a 52 ounce beast of a rimfire handgun.

What makes it dumb is, I haven't hunted in 2 decades, I bought it well after I quit hunting, and I don't shoot silhouette either. I could have bought a short barrel Single Six as a .22LR plinker, but Nooooooooo. I had to go all in with a huge and heavy rimfire revolver that I happen to like very, very much.

Bought it again? Lol! I love it. :D

I made the mistake of trading my NM Blackhawk when I got my SP101. Worst thing I've ever done... I'm not sure if its the same one, but I've frequently thought about getting it back.. at 4x the traded value of course!

Ok but both my son and daughter hunt and fish, now what?
What did you get for christmas, pic

I load my own. Much stouter than factory downloaded ammo, but still not much power. Mine is hell on soda cans. Not many rabbits where I roam.
