I have noticed that some shooters have a clear favorite type of handgun which they use all the time. Something else might be carried occasionally but that requires a clear reason, such as needing something much smaller or much more powerful, for some specific purpose.

For me, the all-the-time gun is Colt's Detective. I'm quite impressed with the New Cobra, too.
For a buddy of mine, it is the Browning Hi-Power.
For another buddy it is the Glock 23, or the 27 if he needs better concealment.
Some others (with pretty good reason) are full-time 1911 guys.

So, that's the sort of thing I'm asking about, curious about what guns just work right for the folks here and have earned the status of clear favorites and constant companions.

So if we are talking about specificly carry guns, how I break it up is right tool for the job. Generally speaking i carry the shield .45. It’s small, fits in all types of clothing choices without printing, it’s light, and generally it works for most things, hence I carry it the most. However, depending where I’m going and how I’m getting there and what I’m doing, let’s just say a 8 hour drive though said state up to some family friends property to meet up to go fishing, I might bring the old glock 30s. Why? Because my exposer rate and enviornement is different, it’s still concealable I have more ammo in a magazine, and walking off and fishing, my clothing choice will work just fine for its bulkier size depite being in the outdoors. For like hunting or something I usually open carry a full-size

Is consistency not a key element in good marksmanship, and many other endeavors? Thus, it seems logical to me to be consistent in the tools used. For me, that tool is a Glock.

I keep going back to revolvers, specifically light j-frames. I am going to give an SP101 a try, and if I like it I may splurge for a K6s for that extra round of capacity.

In the winter, when I can wear a vest or jacket, a Sig 1911 CCO (they call it a C3 because they just have to be different). In the summer, a .357 snubnose under a Hawaiian shirt, either a 640 or a K6 depending on mood. Hiking, a 325 OWB. Them's my regulations, and I stick to 'em.

For me, my EDC {which is really only weekends} is a Sig p239. If not that, than it's a similar flavor in DA\SA.
That platform is just very comfortable for me.

Hi...
That all depends.
For concealed carry, I almost always carry one of my two 1911s in .45ACP.
However, for self defense carry when hiking, I generally carry a revolver, sometimes concealed and sometimes open carry as the mood strikes me. Generally something in .41Mag, .45Colt, .44Spl or .44Mag but occasionally.357Mag. Sometimes a DA and sometimes a SA revolver. Make will vary from Colt to S&W to Ruger to Uberti/Cimarron revolvers depending on my personal whims at the moment.

In everything, I try to be mindful of the right tool for the job. If anything "suits me," I'd have to say it's revolvers, as I any time I plan to do anything fun with a firearm, it usually involves a revolver. However, I carry pistols for defense more than revolvers likely 20:1. Why? Because they're easier to conceal for me. I'm still relatively young and relatively fit, so I wear fitted clothing - anyone can hide a 6" 29 in a parka, ain't happening for me in my street clothes.

In my personality, a revolver seems to suit me well also, or so I'm told. (Although some of my design group folks claim a machine gun is more fitting). But my carry piece isn't about personality or nostalgia, my choice is driven by functional utility for the application.

Double action revolvers for me. Any brand, any size. I dislike the colt cylinder release but would certain not snub a trooper if I ever run across one I can afford. Size and caliber are determined by what I'm doing at that particular time. Out wandering the woods I'm carrying a j frame. If I'm actively hunting it's a bit more peppy and a bit larger.

A Browning Hi-Power, a Colt Commander (in .45 ACP), a Colt Mustang, a S&W Model 686, a S&W Model 638, and a Ruger Flattop Blackhawk (in .44 Special), all really suit me!

I carry every day and 80-90% of the time I carry an XDs .45 in the factory paddle holster. It’s very comfortable and is generally covered by a Hawaiian shirt or something similar.

My alternate, which I’m packing now, since it’s cold here in Central Florida, is a 3" S&W 686 Plus .357 in a pancake holster. Frankly, it’s nowhere near as comfortable as the XDs and I wish I could find a good Kydex paddle holster for it. But I do like the option of having 7 rounds of full-bore .357 ammo available.

When I’m playing concerts or dances and wearing a tux, the room sometimes gets pretty hot and we take our jackets off. So, with a tux, I carry a P3AT in my pocket.

My three Taurus Model 85 revolvers. The 85UL is for EDC, the 85SS for practice/range work as is my 4" model 85. During my weekly range trips the UL gets fired once a month, the SS twice a month and the 4" once a month, thereby practicing with one of the three on a weekly basis.

S&W 3rd Generation autos "just suit me" and are my favorite handguns, particularly the 1006. However, I grew tired of carrying that one, and gradually downsized to .40, and then 9mm, to the point that my favorite carry gun now is a Shield 9. I still like shooting the 3rd Generation autos best.

I have a strong preference for DA revolvers. Not always what I carry, but definitely what I prefer to shoot.

For everyday use and carry, its this .45 Colt Blackhawk from Ruger:

I buy and trade guns a lot. But it seems my go to gun is my 9mm Shield. It fits me right, in a coat pocket, OWB or IWB. I just shoot it well. I carried full size duty handguns for most of my life. But I also carried Single Actions a lot in an alternate universe as a part time western actor.

I like BW's revolvers!

Similarly, I shoot SA revolvers the best and enjoy them the most.

Holy single-actions Batman!

For a carry gun, my revolver loving side would like a 6-shot snub nose.

In reality, I favor DAO semi-auto pocket guns.

I had a couple of Colt snub nose revolvers over the years but have always been more of a S&W J frame fan.

That's probably why I also like to go with a DAO, like my Kahr CM9, in a pocket-size semi-auto.

For jacket weather its a S&W 6904 OWB. The other 11 months of the year here its a .380 Govt. Model on the ankle.
I shoot with guys from work usually and we always finish with a Zombie Challenge target. You get one shot to hit the brain from your choice of handgun at 25yds. Closest to the center of the forehead wins. My go-to is either my 6" 686-0 or my T-series HiPower. Won't lie, I usually win, but I got served by a kid in the shop who just turned 21 and bought his first pistol- an FEG HiPower knockoff that I foolishly did a trigger and action job on for him.
I was Zombie food.
