New Ruger Pistol Caliber Carbine?

Model 19101 ships with a 10-round magazine and the barrel is not threaded. I believe that model is designed to comply with various restrictive state laws.
Thanks, didn’t realize the 10 rounder wasn’t threaded.

Wow, they really are covering all bases to try and make it 50 state friendly. What’s next, Airsoft version? lol

I got to handle one at the local gunstore today. I've got to say, I really like it. Stock feels good, very solid with a good texture on the forend. Way better than the American stocks or the 10/22 stock. Trigger was about what you would expect from a 10/22, pretty unmemorable. Hopefully it could be fixed.
Only 2 negative I could see, and they're not huge:
1) No bolt release. Locks back on empty though.
2) kind of heavy. Especially muzzle heavy. There is a lot of barrel on this thing. I would prefer shallower flutes and a smaller diameter or tapered barrel. Take 8-10 oz off the muzzle and I'm sold.

The manual speaks to that on page 12. Is this how you remember it?

Makes me think of an AR with a collapsible buttstock and a medium weight barrel.

Seems just like the bolt release on my 10/22 after I installed to auto bolt release tab... Except with a last round bolt hold open feature. Insert new mag, pull back on the bolt and you're set, works well enough for me.

Comments on the weight got me thinking, I wonder if they will come out with a PC Carbine "Lite" version eventually, like they have for the 22/45s and 10/22s. I love my 22/45 Lite, a steel sleeved aluminum barreled 9mm carbine would be pretty nifty, especially at like 5.5 lbs.

yes, you can lock the bolt back, just like a 10/22, but there is no bolt release like on a handgun or AR, which is fine by me, but all those high speed, low drag, hard core combaty operator types (what does all that mean anyway?) might be disappointed.

The magazine well is kind of long. I wonder if it is that size because that's how much space the adapter requires ? The magazine well looks like it could fit 7.62×33mm 30 caliber carbine.

I got that impression also. Lots of room there for longer cartridges. :D Might have to change the bolt face tho.

Gotcha. No AR type bolt release is fine by me. I'll just resort to the old school bolt release which is to pull the bolt back manually, then release it. :D

So I followed the link Chich posted and looked over the manual. Looks like working on the trigger would be no worse than working on a 10/22 and even I have made that "more better" with unpowered hand tools only on a couple of guns, both the feel and actual pull weight. ( Still have not tried the Bondo tricks yet though.)

I figure it wont be long before someone makes drop in trigger kits the same as on the 10/22.

Think I might go check out the local gun mart......just in case.

price at lgs was 549, and they are known for being high side of fair for a LGS, but not gougers. not online pricing either. I think I saw them available for 519 from whittakers guns online on gun.deals (formerly slickguns)

$549.00 with that Ruger in my hands right then and there would have been hard for me to resist. It's good thing I wasn't there. :)

IIRC, 80% of the parts cross over with the 10/22. Drop-in 10/22 triggers may even work with this.

Yeah, usually I go in and it like, meh, another ar, yawn. But this time they had the Ruger carbine, the new sig 210, a (used) Ruger min14 in stainless for $450 with sort of odd weight system up front, redfield revenge scope. They even had the new Ruger security 9 Or whatever their new cheap full size 9mm is called.
They had the old Ruger 9mm carbine for 399 right below the new one. Haven't seen one of those in ages.

But I have diapers to buy, Xmas to pay off and and CZ scorpion in the trunk of my cat outside. I couldn't justify or afford the carbine.

A take down 9mm carbine that shares parts with the 10/22 and off the shelf will take Glock or Ruger mags? I think I just heard the aftermarket wetting itself in anticipation.

The thing will make one hell of a truck, varmint, house gun for just about any one especially coming in around or under 500 usd

The bolt head is actually detachable, so that speaks well for caliber conversions. IIRC, a blowback .30 carbine bolt would have to weigh something like 3 pounds though, so such a conversion seems unlikely. A shame, though.

I'll only buy it if they make one I can convert between 9mm, 22 short, 12 gauge with screw in chokes, 338 win mag, and 8x50R manlicher. I also want to use luger magazines and it needs a 3/4" socket on the end so I can change tires with it.

In all seriousness though I just got a great deal on a high point 9mm with 6 mags and also scored a new ATI stock for $50 shipped. I like it much better now with the ATI stock so I'm going to keep what I have.
