I work with a guy who thinks if its not a large caliber shoulder breaker then it wont kill a deer. Within 30 seconds of speaking with him theres no doubt he has no grasp of calibers, cartridges, or much of anything gun related other than names of cartridges.
Its a free country, i enjoy everyone having their own opinions of rifles but he is the type to come find you and tell you about your "sissy gun" and all.
The same guy says a .270win is a pityful deer gun, which lots of dead deer would disagree with if they could of course. When asked why he thinks that he says that small bullet going so fast just pokes right through them and does no damage. Its just too fast so he likes his 7mm mag. I tried to explain he was sending basically the same diameter bullet, faster but could tell i was wasteing my time.
He followed that up with a 30-30 and a 30-06 were stout enough to jack-hammer a deer(agree with that) but the 308 was too small and weak. I had fun explaining facts with this one.
He tried a 44mag rifle but even though it dropped his doe, it wasnt powerful enough. It was "missing a 4" as he said.
His 7mag, 444, and 35 Wheelen is what he uses to kill his 100lb 3pts at 40yds, which is fine, he just gets annoying when he speaks about this subject to me.
Oh well, it takes all kinds.
