I had been looking to change up my EDC to something with a little more capacity for a little while now and just hadn't found a deal on something that fit. Some of you may have heard me say in the past that I would never own a Glock at anywhere near full price, but perhaps maybe someday...

Well today I found a heckuva deal on a lightly used G26 with two 12rd mags so...I gave in.

The holster is a The Master Holster pancake.

I put 200rds of ball and a box of my carry through it this afternoon and no issues, surprise surprise. It's no target shooter but I shoot it better than I did my LC9S for sure.

I have nothing but great things to say about the previous Ruger but it's certainly a little more comforting to me to have almost double the capacity in a still subcompact and very concealable package.

Cool man. Yeah I like to carry a bit larger gun with more ammo in fall, winter, and spring.

You going to put night sights on it?
 
I still carry a Smith Shield and a Rossi .38 as backup, but once upon a time I had a Glock 26 gen 4. They are solid guns and I don't think you'll ever have an issue with it. Alot of people like to change the stock sights I like XS myself.

It happens to a lot of shooters when they try them. It happened to me.

They aren't "The Best" (whatever that means) or "Perfection", but they work well and you don't feel bad when they get holster wear or get scratched.

You mess with the backstraps yet or look at grips and sights?

You may want to take a look at the magpul 12 round mags. Better profile for concealment than the OEM +2, more comfortable in the hand (in my opinion, your mileage may vary) and mine have been every bit as dependable as Glock OEM mags.
 
so, how does it shoot? let us know how you like it at the range, if you please.

I don't see much difference in concealment or comfort but agree with the reliability of Magpuls in the G26. I've been carrying one regularly for about 20 years.
 
I don't know what if anything I'll do to it. Honestly I've never had a gun that has so many aftermarket options available, it's like the AR of the pistol world.

Backstraps sound like they might be worth looking into. No extras came with it and I don't know what's on it. I've never put any kind of aftermarket sights on any of my other pistols so I'd probably get by with the stock ones, but since there are so many options out there maybe at some point. I'd rather not have to take it to a shop and don't know if it's something the average Joe can do.

The gun shoots fine, like I said no target shooter but plenty accurate for it's intended use. Still getting used the "famously wonderful" stock trigger.

I checked out the MP mags and from the pictures it doesn't look that much different. I've always been a fan of factory mags for pistols so I may just stick with Glock brand.
 
Welcome to the Dark Side. The same thing happened to me. If I was going to sometimes carry a largish snubby OWB under a cover garment, why not a Glock 43? And if I could carry a Glock 43, why not a G26? Yeah, mine shoots fine too. My Glocks aren't target pistols, but I shoot them better than the average service pistol. Congratulations! :)

(They'll also accept a G19 magazine, if you want even more boolits.)

I go between the lc9s and the g26 as well. Sometimes one just works better for the clothing that day. Great gun though. Look at the magazine adapers to use g19 or g17 mags. Or don’t and just use the 17 rounder as a backup/reload mag as is. I had to add a striker control device to feel safer holstering. Added the NY2 spring to my 17, but wanted to keep the g26 spring stock (for now).

Looks great. Happy for you. Enjoy it. Will be a good one for sure.

The G 26 has been a mainstay of the CCW crowd for ages, it's one versatile and effective little chunkster! Nice find :thumbup:.

May you never, ever need to employ it for defense...but it's small enough and carry-able (??) enough to have it on your side just in case.

Before I got married my roommate had a 26. I wanted a 27. His older brother had the .45 version. I never bought a subcompact because I learned my hands are not fit for a Glock. I wish it was, I really like what the 27 has to offer, but I’m not going to shoot it if it literally rips my hand open, so that keeps me out of all of the poly wonder guns. I have never had that issue with a metal framed gun, and the only poly that doesn’t do it AS Bad is an XD. I don’t like the feel of the bday XDs
 
Sights are easy with a less then $10 tool from amazon for the front sight and a nylon mallet for the rear. No need for the expensive sight pusher tool, get the rear sight centered with your eyeball then take the hammer to the range with you to zero it. I have been eyeing the Ameriglo "Bold" model sights.

Gen3 models are still great and some folks actually prefer them to the newer generations.

After some more shooting I have come to the conclusion that the stock rear sight is annoying and makes it harder for me to focus on the front. So, a set of AmeriGlo I-Dots are on order.

After looking at the grip some more last night and not seeing anything that resembled a removable backstrap I kind of wondered about that. I thought all Glocks with finger grooves were 4th gen.

Any other differences between a 3rd and 4th gen? How could you tell?
 
Several things:

1. Free holster. If you think you want to pocket carry, or have another use for it, I have a Raven Concealment pocket holster for the G26 you can have. I used it mostly in vehicles just to keep the trigger guard covered. Also works well in a winter coat pocket which I did a handful of times. As you probably figure by now the 26 isn’t a pocket gun unless you’re 7 feet tall and 300 lbs. I don’t have a G26 anymore, so the holster just sits.

2. Some people find that flipping the rear sight around helps, or blacking it out, while you wait for new sights. I swear by tritium front and black rear, but your choice is pretty solid and a great upgrade.

3. Gen4 and 5 have removable back straps, Gen1-3 don’t. The Medium strap in the new guns is the equivalent to the regular grip in the older models.

There’s some differences in the trigger housing between Gen 3 and 4 and now 5, but at the moment I only have Gen 2, 3 and 5s to compare.

4. Gen 3 triggers are fairly cheap and easy to play around with. If you like revolvers, a heavier NY1 (or NY2 if you’re into HEAVY pulls) trigger spring is a couple dollars and a lighter connector is $15-20. Totally transforms the trigger to something almost revolver-like for around $20.
 
You might consider trying out a stock 10 round magazine. Just tuck your pinky under the grip.

It feels weird but shoots pretty well. At least for me.


O yea, congratulations on your new G26, I hope you like yours half as much as I like mine.

Gen 4 has a larger magazine release and a different grip texture. Good choice on the I-dot sights, I much prefer them to 3 dot sights.

Thanks for the offer and info.

I've never been a pocket gun person and this gun certainly isn't one anyway. Unless the holster you're referring to is leather I'll thankfully decline. If it is leather maybe I could find a use for it as a simple trigger guard like you did.

As for the trigger I don't plan on modifying it to make it lighter or heavier. Now if there was some way to make it better overall without making it super light or heavy then I might be interested.

In addition to the sights and sight/ "armory" tools I've also got a IWB Kydex holster on the way from the same company that my LC9S holster was from. That holster will strictly be for work days where I can't carry. I've tried some dry runs of getting my leather pancake off and on in the car and it's futile. I have experience with single clip IWB holsters and that should suit the purpose of being able to indiscreetly getting the whole get up off and on in the car at work. I'm definitely a OWB guy though so the holster in my OP will be primary off work carry.


Everything is supposed to be here tomorrow so I'll update accordingly.
 
I'm also interested in a slightly longer mag release and I'd like to change out the slide back plate from the scull that someone put on it to either a factory one or maybe a US flag. Not sure how involved either of those are or if the mag release is even an option.
