Magazine article hype and new toys. It happens every so often. Some new whiz bang dohicky comes along with the magazine writer marketing and all of a sudden everybody just needs one.
The 204 was the same a few years back, everyone just had to have one of those.
I dont hate the CM but the 260 has been doing the same thing for 20+ years.

...and the 6.6x55mm Swede a hundred years before that.

A few years back, when my kids were small, took'em to a hip little kids store in the mall to get'em sunglasses for an up-coming road-trip.

The Twenty-something salesperson at the optics counter suggested that these brand-new-tech sunglasses that they just got in would be Perfect.

Asked'em what the new tech was.

With a sweep of their hand, like they were revealing Oz behind the curtain, they replied,

"Po-lar-ized...!"

:D

Have you perused the current offerings of high dollar tennis shoes? I've tried to explain to my teenage son that the only reason that you and all of your buddies just have to have a few pairs is because of the marketing telling you that you need that crap to look cool.

I explains to my kids that, from factory to shoestore, it costs ~ $7 to produce and have ready for sale, a pair if sneekers, be it Costco/Kirklands or Nike/Air Jordans.

Then told'em that, on sale, Costco still make a 50% profit on their leather Kirkland court shoes when I buy'em on sale for $11... instead of $143 going to Nike's Advertising budget and Pro Golf Tour.

That, they got.

And yet we hunters happily spend 1-400dollars on boots.......

I haven't joined the luxury boot crowd... yet. ;)

My $100 Ebay Vasques have handled the past two elk seasons just fine and dandy and if those don't work, my Danners will get the job.

I'm torn between th 6.5CM and several other cartridges for a longish range target rifle. What makes my decision difficult is that I can't remember hearing anyone being disappointed with the CM or any of the other options rolling around in my head.
I will be hand loading for this next project so realistically I probably can't go wrong with any of the options. If I was planning to use factory ammo I would easily choose the 6.5 CM.

To answer the OP's question......well I think you have heard it all.
But for all the reasons why or why not a 6.5 Creedmoor it seems to be mostly comparison to other calibres that do the same thing. Does that really matter to you that it performs all that much different than anything you already have? If it does then maybe the 6.5 Creedmoor isn't your best option.
For some of us that would narrow our rifle battery to maybe 2 to three rifles if we thought that way. Personally I find that unacceptable!
I would give it great consideration if you just want one to shoot or need a rifle in its class for a specific purpose rifle. Buy to suit your desire or needs.
I buy firearms because I want them not because I need them but that's me.
It's supposed to be a sport and we're supposed to have fun with it.
So good luck and happy shooting!

I need to, and probably will this year, twice bitten by Asolo blister factories and once by Merrell junk, I'm done screwing around with boots. When you're putting down 7 - 12 miles a day chasing elk, boots matter a lot more than what rifle cartridge you're carrying (within reason).

I can't disagree. I have chosen well broken in and tested boots over more expensive ones every year and haven't been let down yet. The trouble with high dollar hunting boots is I am not sure I'll wear them enough through the year to get them to the point where they need to be by the time the hunt starts. Maybe I would though.

However, this is a CM thread and I'm well on my way to breaking that new Savage CM barrel in. ;) Loaded my 2nd 100 today and they are ready for the range!

I wish my boots only cost $400.
What are you using?
I looked a couple of the real high-end boots, they sure seem nice, but lava rock shreds stuff and I'm not willing to drop 800 bucks a year on foot ware lol.

I honestly mostly use wolverine work boots on a'a lava, but I've got a pair of decent brownings on Molokai, and a set of irish setter vapotreks here.

Thinking bout cartridges, I wish there was a 7mm Creedmoor, it would keep me from having to do a 7mm ihmsa build on a model 7.. .. .

Then I could build a whole creedmoor family...AND a .300 Savage they all call Grandpa....

Anderson Bean usually, newest ones are Arapaima, since I’m on my 3rd sole of my elephant pair, and I’ve had a rotation of a couple pairs of caiman black and brown as my dress boots for years, with my “kickers” being ostrich.

My best friend bought one because of what she read about them she thought it sounded interesting. After buying brass and bullets, not to mention scope, she doesn't shoot it at all. Lack of recoil and just being what she calls boring made it a lost cause.

Funny...

Was lookin' for a new pair, as my dirt-bike pegs had eaten holes into the Chinese PU soles of my Wally/Brahma specials.

MidwayUSA had some nice $150 NOS/USGI/MCCB boots in their Surplus dept. for ~ $120, and then marked down to ~ $75 on an after Christmas special.

I went to get a pair, and my "Birthday cookie" kicked in (use the 1st of the year) markin'em down yet again.

$35/pop.

So I got Three(3) pair, and another Three(3) for my oldest son.

"Stingy Scottish fingers..."

I'm still not smitten by the 6.5 Creedmoor and for any general hunting I'd rather have a .308 Win. I don't see the advantage of the 6.5 CM for hunting over a .308 Win, particularly if you shoot monolithic copper bullets as I do. I just spent two consecutive mornings shooting two versions of the same rifle, one a 6.5 CM and the other a .308 Win. The .308 Win was lighter by 4.25 oz and shooting 30 rounds of Hornady 140gr ELD Match and 30 rounds of Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr felt recoil was only marginally greater for the .308 Win and I enjoyed shooting the .308 Win more. I have 6.5 CM and .308 Win barrels for my AI AW and this might be an odd comment but I definitely prefer cleaning the .308 Win more too. It's really annoying having to use a .22 cal Dewey rod to clean a .264" bore. The .30 cal rod is so much stiffer and I don't have to fight the rod so much. I think everyone knows by now that the 6.5 CM is a good cartridge but for me I still prefer the .308 Win as an all-around cartridge.

Those look awsome!

If they wouldn't look wierd with the surf shorts I usually ware, Id want a set of the Arapaimas.

More pictures!

I need to load more 6.5, I've got 20 or 30 shots left of the last batch I made.
I've gotta find a new powder for my 6.5CM also, well besides superformance. Rl-17s become hard to get here.
I've got hybrid 100v, and 4451 to try, so we'll see how those compare.

Amusingly enough, I shot a few rounds from my .375, 6.5cm, and .270, at 400yds couple days ago. I did better with the .375 than the other rifles.
The .270 gets a pass tho, it really didn't like the 150ablrs I tried to feed it.
