Glock's new spokesman - Chuck Norris

Weren't there several back in the 50s and 60s?

Chuck Norris doesn't need to carry a Glock........ He just wants us mere mortals to have a reliable means of self defense...... But I'm O.K. with him as a spokesperson and he seems like a genuine, down to earth, 2A supporter. He must be getting on in years by now.... How old is Chuck?

I don't think anyone is hating on chuck. I think as gun owners we like to think we are all smart enough to not be swayed by a celebrity who was likely past his prime by the time Gaston even sold the 17. He was also in shape before the Total Gym was invented.
As far as segall goes. A google search would show why no one wants him as a spokesman
As far as other celebrities. I recall Brett Favre advertising Remington shotguns.

ETA I actually like glock. I have many. Just wonder how a mediocre (and be honest that's generous) actor that few under 40 knows any of his movies is supposed to make anyone buy a glock.

Just the opposite.

It's the younger crowd that have elevated Chuck Norris to god status with his ads and memes.

Believe me, he has a quite a large following and Glock was very smart/lucky to have signed on Mr. Norris.

My 28 yo son and his girlfriend along with my 19 yo daughter (who never saw any of his movies) could go for hours talking about his memes.

Being part Cherokee (like my wife of 24 years), I am sure he has a large following with the natives too (But somehow, wife has a temper of an Apache. I think there was some hanky panky with her grandma. ).

Yes. They know him from memes. And shirts from Spencer's. I asked a guy a few years back if he even knew a pink floyd song because he was wearing their shirt. He didnt. I played him comfortably numb. He never wore the shirt again. Thank god I didnt play him brain damage or have a cigar or one of those. I doubt he would have bought a gun because roger waters told him too.

I've been wrong before though. My company once gave a sports legend an 8 digit contract to advertise a particular T shirt. Everyone thought it was a stupid gimmick. They claim it made us money though so who knows. It's sad how much influence a celebrity can have in a field they know little about.

Aw, Chuck ain't so much.
Dad used to say that he took him two-out-of-three in inter-service bouts back in the late '50s in Korea.
Of course, Chuck was just getting started... .

Edit: The dates don't really match:
Dad had been kicked out of the USMC by the time that Chuck started in competitions.

(I know his name is Carlos Norris, but he did play the title character in Walker Texas Ranger)

Well I hope they both have a long and lucrative deal. No hate from me and he was a great fighter. I think he would even tell you his acting was pretty bad. I always felt like he was just having fun being a campy actor. I've seen a lot of his stuff and I get the feeling he would tell you he was a fighter first and foremost who happened onto television. Just like van dam or don Wilson. Fighters who acted.....Not actors.

As a student of martial arts, I not only respect Chuck Norris for what he has done in the movies, but also elevate him to level of grandmaster out of respect for what he has done for the sports and children, in addition to 2A/NRA.

We need more role models like him for the younger generation to look up to and model after, instead of Hollywood actors who end up committing suicide/OD.

Just imagine how many kids started taking martial arts lessons and went on to becoming LEO, even Texas Ranger?

LOL, I don't think any of us went to see his movie for acting.

I was watching/studying his kicks.

And feel good happy endings didn't hurt either ... Unlike Disney movies where it was mostly doom and gloom with start of movie being main character getting orphaned or socially isolated (Talk about negative anchors and emotional trauma for poor kids!). I hated Disney movies for heavy dose infusion of death/dying with life's solution coming from sorcery/witchcraft/magic and from "prince charming". The day when my wife found out I was not prince charming and could not live up to the expectation, I went "Why?!" and realized Disney set us men for failure in our relationships.

But Chuck Norris movies had happy endings with no negative anchoring. You just wanted to go out and kick something.

He had a 200 fight career. You could study his kicks watching those old films......many of those tournaments had as much plot as delta force lol.
Relax I own those on VHS, I paid my money so I get to critique.

Hey, as we've seen it only takes name recognition to do anything, be it selling goods, persuading people to vote for their candidates, or getting elected to high office.

He's certainly got name recognition, I believe ol' Chuck even fought against Bruce Lee in one of Bruce's movies.

He did fight bruce in a movie as a favor to bruce. (As did Kareem) And chuck trained with bruce in the green hornet days long before he was a big actor. I read artist of life earlier this year. It was a compilation of works by bruce, along with some private letters to friends abroad. Lee, like chuck, seemed like a well grounded, thoughtful, and respectful individual. He wouldn't have represented glock though, He used nunchucks just to play ping pong. His ccw would been an m2 at minimum.

Chuck Norris is a 6 time full contact professional karate world champion. So yes, he is a tough guy, in addition to being a great 2A advocate. Good for Glock.

Glock has a serious problem. It's un-American. That doesn't stop it from being a dependable, quality product, or even from capturing a large portion in market share. But if I was a Glock executive, what I'd be focused on is more. How does Glock get more? What can it do to grow?

It could expand into carbines, but the market is dominated by something for which it has no patents. At best it would just have another me-too product with the likes of DD, KAC, Sig, etc.
It could build 1911's, but again it has no patents and that would just be another me-too product.
It could try to sell even more handguns.
....It could introduce more models, but it already has quite a few
........It could introduce models with a safety lever
........It could introduce models with a metal frame
........It could introduce customizations, but the aftermarket is already full
.... It could try to increase its appeal and market share in the non-institutional market (essentially individual American consumers)
......... It could lower prices, but that would thin margins
........ It could try to be more American
............ It could produce 1911's and revolvers
............ It could hire Chuck Norris


So as an executive, I'm sure the decision came down to a safety lever or Chuck Norris.

So is Beretta and manufactures some of their pistols in the USA.

So is Sig Sauer and manufactures 1911s in the USA. And managed to get a contract with the US Military.

So is Taurus and manufactures some of their pistols in the USA.

Glock also manufacturers some of their pistols in the USA but I agree that they have a serious problem ... but I do not believe it's due to being "un-American" rather stiff competition and explains why they would hire Chuck Norris after Ronald Lee Ermey.

They could start by extending their "Glock Perfection" to left handed shooters.

You might have a point. A left ejecting Glock 41, 35, 23, wouldn't be too hard to produce.

Ok I don't mean to get on a soap box. I fully respect Chuck Norris. I grew up in the 80s watching him mow down Commies with an Uzi. I had his action figure and watched his cartoon (along with Rambo). He's a staple of my childhood.

My beef with Mr. Norris is he was basically a relic if the 80's and forgotten, and a young man comes along making a meme about his toughness. Chuck basically sues him for enriching himself on his likeness. That's fair. What's not fair is that Norris spins that into several "Chuck Norris is so tough..." commercials based on the meme AND gets himself a wink and a nod in the Expendables series because of this guy's efforts to elevate his popularity to a new generation in a fun way and make a buck or two.
If I had been him, i would have ridden that loving fan service and just been happy that people under 35 knew who i was.

Instead, I'm a bit meh with him and Glock and will probably never rely on using a couple if cables and my body weight (while making myself $900 poorer) to keep in shape in my 70s.

I think Glock could have broken the mold by going after a YouTube star like Hickock45 over a bit of a has-been novelty celebrity like Norris. Once again, dont get me wrong. I grew up with Norris. He could totally kick my 38 year old butt. My point is that in the last 25 years, besides the meme he sued the guy over, he was known for the Total Gym and staring in a TV series my grandfather watched before Bonanza reruns came on.

His 2nd A standing is a moot point to me.
