Bubba alert; not for the weak of heart.

Here's my current "bubba'd" rifle that I bought on Gunbroker recently. Its a USGI M1 Carbine with a Winchester 77 22. lr barrel "brazed" onto the barrel shank.
Supposedly its chambered in 5.7 Johnson. I will not be shooting it in current condition, as its more of a great parts rifle for my needs.
Enjoy.

I have been a bit frustrated with the Ruger built-in scope bases in the past, so I can sort of see where Bubba was coming from. But, there is no excuse for being that sloppy...

I don’t know. Judging by the stock finish it’s solidly in beater territory anyway and will never have collector or historical value. Increasing utility with the tools (and skills) you have might not seem so terrible if you just want to shoot vermin at 200 yards. I would never bubba any gun in decent shape but there was one $40 beater 91/30 that...well, it wasn’t pretty.

Maybe I could just weld two rifles together side by side and then I finally have one of those expensive double guns.... cant believe no one else has thought of this yet... now I need to find a left-handed bolt gun, then Ill have invented the first ambidextrous bolt rifle! On second thought, lets not go to camelot.

That’s one way to mount an optic on a mini. He would have been better off with a Ranch though.

For a standard Mini-14, I've seen a much better looking scope base lately... on eBay it runs $50 or less, looks to be pretty stable, and can be removed from the rifle in probably three seconds. That said, I haven't tried one to verify the impression.

Judging by the looks and my extensive experience in removing welds professionally, it would only take about 1 second to fold that mount off with my bare hands. I had a love affair with a mini-14 when I was a boy, It was a model before they machined ruger’s proprietary grooves on the action. I remember buying a mount that had a single screw with a large knurled head that screwed into the side cover plate area, and two vertical set screws to eliminate fore and aft movement. Left alot to be desired, so I can understand why someone would attempt this. Its a simple matter of weight ratios. A four ounce bird cannot carry a 2 pound coconut, its not a matter of where he grips it.

That would make mad max cringe...
"Just cause you can" to this guy means "you must" and without delay. Hunting season is upon us.
To be fair, i have seen worse.
A fellow i know had a very nice 22 crackshot that he insisted needed a scope and his solution was to get the biggest scope rings he could find that had a section of rail on top, using only the top ring as a sort of bridge he used tiny wood screws attach a couple of them into the forend free floated above the barrel in a sort of dumb looking hump mount looking thing. Then he put some huge scope he had laying around into rings and mounted it onto the sections of rail he had provided. Maybe a poor description, but it was before cell phone cameras and thats the best i could do. It worked (as far as holding the optic on to the rifle) , he then complained the old rifle must he worn out "cause it wont group". Not that this is worse than the OPs picture but it isn't much better.

Reminds me of an old Mini I used to have that I did a scope mount for. Too bad no one dusted that thing for prints.
