Would you trade a Norinco SKS for a RAR in 7.62x39?

The only reason to not do the trade in my opinion is the historical/sentimental value of the SKS. Not a lot of history in most Norincos, so if you aren't attached to it, do it.

I shoot my RAR in 7.62x39 a lot more than the Norinco, and since I built an x39 AR I hardly shoot it at all. If it wasn't a gift there is no way I would keep it around. Might trade it and some money for a Russian SKS though....

I have an SKS. I want a Ruger American ranch in 7.62x39 for my boys when they get a couple years older. One of my coworkers is dieing to get an SKS and is willing to pay me what it would cost to buy the RAR.
I'm struggling with it because I don't sell guns.
That's exactly what I did.
I owned two sks, never liked them.
I carried one around in my truck for years.
The milsurp thing never appealed to me.
I did, however stock up on ammo....lots of it.
I traded my last one for my RAR 7.62x39.
It has become my favorite centerfire rifle.

I shoot too far for it to become my favorite rifle. But I think it would be pretty high on the list.
Like you, I have a bunch of 7.62x39 ammo. Because of this, I either need to go on a rampage or buy another gun that shoots it.

Never did care all that much for the ergonomics of the SKS.

So yes, I would make the trade for a Ruger American Rifle as I have a ton of 7.62x39 ammo and currently have only one rifle to use it in.

I have a RAR in 7.62x39 and two SKS carbines ..
The RAR is a accurate carbine ...
Fit and finish is lacking ,,,.having said that , function and accuracy is spot on ...would I give up one of my SKS rifles for my RAR
Nope .... One of my SKS carbines is a 16 inch version, the other is like new ...
ethier would be hard to replace... The little Ruger is easy .. Within 15 miles of my house they are ten gunstores that ethier have the RAR in stock or a click on the computer away ...
I really like what Ruger is doing ... light ,accurate and affordable carbines in out of the norm chamberings ...

Both of yours are unique. Mine isn't.

That's funny because my sks with Tapco stock( I got tired of being bumped in the nose with my thumb)...is still sitting in the usef rack of my lgs where I traded it. I think he allowed me $150 on trade. I'm not certain what he is asking for it....but it's still there since September of '18. I would gladly trade two sks for one RAR.
I know many people like them, and I'm good with that....but I dont..

A unaltered SKS in good condition brings considerable more in this area ..

Sounds like you should get the RAR $ plus a little tiny bit for your trouble - friend or not, YOU are not seeking out this transaction.

Or, in short, given your posts... "

Yes!, Yes I would.

Be certain to nail down a particular Ruger beforehand to not get any nasty surprises.

Todd.

I have two SKS rifles, a 20" and a 16" Paratrooper model both made by Norinco. Both of these have only had 80 rounds each down the bore. I have owned several other SKS rifles and really like them. I would rather have the SKS than a Mini-30. And I love my Mini-14. But I will never sell the last two SKS rifles I own.

I just bought a RAR rifle in 243. It was down to the 243 or the 7.62x39. The 243 won but I still want a RAR in 762x39. And I will get one. What a handy little rifle. And since it won't be chunking my brass all over the place I will but the dies and brass and reload for it. Maybe try some lead and some of the 150gr 30-30 bullets I have on hand. I have 500 of those. That should make a great brush gun.

I grew weary of having a bunch of guns just to have a bunch of guns. I suppose there’s some point to it, but after a while I couldn’t remember what it was.

I sold my Russian SKS for 3x what I paid for it and don’t miss it a bit. Noisy, not particularly good ergonomics. Not particularly accurate. I guess if you wanna turn money into noise it’s OK, but shooting just to blast off rounds isn’t my thing.

Actually, the choice is simple. One of your relatives is disposing of their estate. You can have one gun free. You’ve got the two guns laying on a table side by side. You can have one. Which do you pick up?

It's obviously little collector value. I DNK about you, but I'm not a collector, I'm a shooter. As such, given what I've read, I'd do the trade.

SKS. Not particularly accurate. Not particularly beautiful. Not valuable. Yet still holds its own against more modern offerings at a low price. Heck withe the tapco stuff gimme milsurp wood. Gets damaged or stolen and no tears will be shed. I also grew weary of more guns than needed. I could do everything I ever am gonna need with an SKS and a model 10 police trade in. Cheap yet high quality tools for us commoners.

This SKS was my only center fire rifle for about 5 years. At that time all my hunting was in swamps or evergreen thickets. Half the time I just carried a shotgun instead. When move wide open country my needs and wants changed. Most deer and coyotes I shoot are well outside of it's range because of the accuracy limits.

You can buy an SKS from classic for 299. I'd trade it in a second for the ruger.

Trade a commie rifle for one that has “American” in it’s name? Of course you should!

Do you reload 7.62x39?
