Would you trade a Norinco SKS for a RAR in 7.62x39?

I have an SKS. I want a Ruger American ranch in 7.62x39 for my boys when they get a couple years older. One of my coworkers is dieing to get an SKS and is willing to pay me what it would cost to buy the RAR.
I'm struggling with it because I don't sell guns.

I have had a couple of SKS's and they are great rifles for their design. I find them heavy and clumsy but accurate and reliable. I have always ended up selling them in the end. I currently have two Ruger American 7.62x39's, one for me and one for my son. I really love these rifles. They are much more accurate than any SKS I have shot, handy, and extremely fun to shoot. We shoot a couple of hundred rounds each time we go to the desert. That is a tough call, but I would do it.

How nice is it
It's shooter grade. Has the retarded tapco t6 stock, 3 mags and a receiver scope mount. That's half the reason I don't love it.
I've had it 15 years and shot it maybe that many times. My bolt and lever guns get the nod unless friends who can't shoot come over. Then I drag it out because they love shooting soda cans with it.

For a constant use, everyday carry rifle, I wouldnt sell a good one.....I would stick with an accurate and reliable rifle, and get rid of anything else.

If you need the cash go ahead, but if not keep the sks. They probably won't get cheaper and if you decide you have to replace it someday it'll cost you. This is my rule. I don't sell guns I have and like to buy new production guns. There will always be more new guns...
I don't need the cash. It's more about freeing up space. My gun locker is over full. I can buy an unmolested Norinco for less than he offered me for this modified one.

It's reliable and can hit clays at 100 yards with the crude sights.

I traded an AR for an Norinco sks, andnhad fun tinkering with it..never really used it tho, so traded it for a Benjamin Bulldog. Honestly they are decent guns, but if I get another semi x39 it will be a AR or a Mini30.

I vote sell.

I'd never trade anything semi-auto. I've got a Norinco SKS, 5 AR's in x39, and the Ruger American Ranch in x39. I'll never sell any of them. I'd give them to my sons first. LOL They'll wind up with them when I'm gone anyway.

I want a used gun store so I can test fire everything:)
I tried to like this SKS, but after buying an AR, it made me realize they're the Mosin Nagant of the semi auto rifle world.
They are almost as cool as a Thompson though.
I’ve got three AR’s in 7.62x39, and they’re very accurate; much more accurate than an SKS. I just have a soft spot for SKS’s. They’re fun to shoot, and reasonably accurate. If you’ve got that good of an offer for it, you should get what you want.

Bfh_auto: If your SKS is the very common Chinese semi-commercial variety, with the attached gear you described (certainly not a decent Romanian, Russian etc), I would sell it and be glad to have available cash for another gun. I spent many hours reading SKSboards and chatting in person with SKS owners who were Not selling a gun (no agenda).

There's nothing--in my opinion--such as having $400-$1200 hot cash (or more), if necessary by selling a gun(s), to spend on any other type I want. Just sold my lonely Russian .380 Makarov to own an extra, second, but holster-worn Sig P6 (I changed the mainspring). Recently sold two nice guns in order to buy a brand-new Czech Small Arms VZ-58. This is just a fraction of the gun changes here....

It would be so simple for you to later buy another extremely common Chinese spike bayo SKS and add on tactical plastic.

For me the tactical plastic detracts from the gun.

You said you don't sell guns. Your a better man than me. I'd say don't sell this one, and just save up for the Ruger. Then again I'm a sucker for bolts that fire off cheap ammo...tough call. I'd lose the SKS. I just remember paying $75 for mine. And the old, beaten to death line "only accurate rifles are interesting" rings true to me.

I've sold one handgun and one rifle. I won't sell because I'm broke and when I have money I usually can't think of a reason to sell.
This SKS, an H&R 223 and my Krag rifle are really close to the chopping block.
My Krag carbine is going nowhere.

Seemd like you answered your own question.

You dont really even like the SKS ....AND...have a guy willing to pay for your ranch rifle.

You, sir, are 90% of the way to owning a Ruger Ranch in x39.

As someone who buys, sells, trades often...

I definitely wouldn't do it if it were unmodified.

Probably still wouldn't do it, but I'd go online and find a cheap surplus or maybe a leftover Timberwolf stock to put on it.

If you don't need the money, the SKS is on the "probably shouldn't sell list".

It's surplus and it's semi-auto. That's 2 reasons for it to not be traded/sold.
