This is Mongo, my largest handgun. He weighs four and one half pounds. He is chambered in .45 P.I.T.A. A self explanatory acronym. A 45-70 case cut down to 1 1/2". I made Mongo a few years back out of scraps of steel and a barrel that Les gave me.

Obviously a copy of a Rolling block, with a few tweaks, all coil springs being one. I chambered Mongo with a drill bit :what: and screwed up my first attempt. Mongo was supposed to be a .45 Colt. A one size larger bit and a lot more care resulted in a serviceable chamber that the shortened 45-70 case fit in nicely.

My favorite load is a 385 gr 45-70 bullet ahead of all the 4227 that I can stuff in the case, about 18 grains Recoil is mild and I have no idea what the velocity is. Probably not more than 600-700 FPS, but judging by how hard it whacks my steel gong I'm guessing it packs a pretty good wallop.

Mod 29 with the 8 3/8 tube. Was never really into wheel guns but someone needed fast cash, had one of those that came in the wood presentation case from back in the days after Clint made them so famous. Of course had not been fired. I have never been interested in a gun I could not shoot so I of course had to find another one that was WELL beat up so I could shoot it. Later someone who JUST HAD to have the nice one paid enough to take it home so them I sold the shooter. Still kind of miss that cannon now and then :D The nice part was it was so damn heavy that even full house rounds were tame enough for most any shooter to enjoy a few rounds through it.

I had a Savage Stryker bolt action pistol. 14" barrel and a muzzle break, chambered in 300WSM. Recoil was surprisingly not bad,but the muzzle blast is why I got rid of it. Foam earplugs plus shooting muffs and it hurt my ears every time I pulled the trigger.

I guess my largest handgun would have to be my 14" Remington XP chambered in 7mm IHMSA. It's pretty loud too Oldschool shooter, although I'm sure it's nowhere near as loud as your 14" 300WSM with a muzzle break was.

No super powerful bolt or single-shots here...Just a plain-Jane Super Redhawk .454 with the 7.5” barrel, followed closely by a Redhawk .41 Mag also with the 7.5” barrel.

A smaller frame, but longer barrel, goes to my Dan Wesson 15-2, I have (among others) an 8” VH for that one.

Stay safe.

Well a 14" Contender tips the scales a bit

But the Interarms Virginian Dragoon 44 mag is a bit bigger.

And the SW 5" 500 mag is even bigger than that.

But the Savage Stryker bolt action with an un-muzzled 14" barrel in 22-250 takes the cake. Its slightly bigger than the 22 mag version...

Probably this one in size, though not in caliber. I actually carried this once, when picking up a neighbor at an unsavory area of a neighboring city. Full 40 round mag and with a single-point sling around my neck, under a trenchcoat. When my neighbor later asked me what I was afraid of, I gave him the obvious, "absolutely nothing."

AR pistol by far biggest and heaviest.

16” buntline .357 is an easy close second.

contender 44 mag super 16 was about the same as the buntline.

long barrel single six gets honorable mention.

My largest handgun was a Dan Wesson 445 Supermag. Had to make my own ammo for it using 303 British cases. That thing was insane! Now I pay the price for shooting all that big bore hand cannons. Carpal tunnel surgery on the right wrist and tennis elbow surgery on both elbows. 357 is about as crazy as I get now!

Over 40 years ago, I had one of Ruger's semiauto .22LR pistols with a 10" barrel. The biggest one I have now is a Single Six Combo (LR & Mag.) with the 6" (?) barrel.
The biggest larger caliber is a GP-100 in .357 with a 4" barrel. I tried the 6" but it was "nose heavy" and kept trying to make the barrel tip drop all the time. The 4" balances much better in my hands.

Hi...
I like big handguns.
I had a Super Redhawk with a 9-1/2" barrel in .44Magnum that I had to sell due to a divorce in 1989.

Current largest is a toss up...I have a Dan Wesson .375SuperMag with an 8-3/8" barrel.
Also two Virginian Dragoons with 7-1/2" barrels in .44Magnum, a T/C Contender in .45Colt, a Dan Wesson .44Mag with a couple of barrels and two Super Blackhawks, one in .44Mag and a Hunter model in .45Colt.
All of them make my four S&W N frames look small in comparison.
My S&W 686 Silhouette Model in .357Magnum with an 8-3/8" barrel looks downright petite next to the Dan Wessons.

Heaviest is a S&W X-frame 460 XVR (8-3/8" barrel)

Longest barreled handgun is a T/C Contender with a 7mm Int Rimmed Super 14 barrel.
