The 10-22 is arguably one of the more common and loved .22 Semi-Autos. I had one, ruger 10-22 Stainless target, heavy barrel, bolt buffer, mag extension, bedded action, bipod, ArchAngel stock, etc. The only thing I didn't do was replace the barrel. I am a fan of the ruger mags, being able to shoot 10 to 25 rounds in a mag and more if you really wanted to. I could never get my rifle to shoot anywhere near as accurately as my Savage Mark II BTVSS bolt action, it was very touchy when torquing the action screws, too tight and it become unreliable, even with CCI, so, when a friend wanted it I sold it to him for less than I had in it.

Been several years, and decided I wanted to add a semi-auto .22 rifle to the stable again. Now, to be fair, I already picked a cheap one up but I have not had a chance to shoot it yet. I don't know if it will be good or not, it is not a 10-22 so it will not be as upgradeable, wont have the cool mags, etc., but I am hoping it will at least be accurate at 50 yards, I can live with only 10 rounds if it will shoot moa at 50 yards. If not, I will sell it and get something else.

So, here is the question for this thread,

Do you have a .22LR Semi-Auto, that is not a Ruger 10-22, that is MOA accurate at 50 yards, and reliable no FTFs, FTEs?

Yes, this Weatherby Mark XXII made in Italy. Then production moved to Japan. And then Savage bought the contract to produce, however Savage couldn’t meet Weatherby standards and the line was discontinued in about 2002, if memory serves.

Shoots under MOA at 50 yards, several ammunition types.

Thanks, looking at the A22, I like the chassis rifles.

I also looked at the Volquartsen but about 2x more than I want to spend on the rifle, I don't compete, just like shooting little holes.

I have a CMMG conversion bolt for an AR. Its accurate enough, in the 1" at 50 yards range. With BDM mags, its more reliable than a 10/22. They make a dedicated 22lr barrel for those conversion that are supposed to make them much more accurate, of course you loose the .223 option
About 5000 rounds through it, extractor is starting to wear out. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/2546133311

Yes a dedicated AR is also a viable option. I recommend using a dedicated 22lr barrel over the conversion kit since the 1/7 and 1/9 twists are too fast for most 22lr ammo. I took and rebuilt my cheapo Chiappa 22lr upper using an aluminum receiver and a free float handguard and it is accurate and reliable now. I also have a CMMG dedicated 4.5" barrel and bolt that is plenty accurate for a pistol.

Thanks all, jmr40, do you have either of those? The Bergara looks interesting with the CF Barrel.

mjsdwash - I just got my CMMG conversion in the mail the other day, have not installed it or shot it yet.

hk 270.....out shot my 540 and 541 rem. took a kimber bolt to match it...cz 455 varmint comes close. never malfunctioned. fwiw.
another one of those never should have.....lol

I do not. But I've heard nothing but good things about the Bergara. I handled a TC a while back and was tempted for the money.

I have 3 Ruger 10/22's but only one is s it left the factory. This, which has been discontinued.

Ruger 10/22 LVT .22 LR Matte Blue | 1235 - Buds Gun Shop

It has a medium contour 20" target barrel and sporter stock. With the Ruger BX trigger I added it is very accurate and still not too heavy to carry around.

The other 2 have been modified with after market barrels and a few other touches.

The thing I like about the Bergara and TC is that they can be configured from the factory to match what I've done with custom parts. And being able to use Ruger magazines is a huge plus.

I prefer the tube mag, it's a lot easier to move thru the weeds with. The M60 is probably as accurate as I can shoot with a 22LR,
anyway. IMO, the only real advantage the 10/22 has over the tubies is the Ruger TakeDown. That provides a nice storage and mobility
option.

I gotta ask, what are those holes in the stock in the 1st And last picture?

If I didn't already have a 10/22 I would give serious consideration to the TCR22. If I went the used route I would look for a TC R-55 Classic .22 rifle. Loved the overall feel and ergonomics of that gun. The Browning SA-22 is another great .22 semi-auto but way too pricey for me!

I have a lot of them that have done 1/2” or better at 50 yards.

If we start adding qualifiers like under $300, average of 10, 10 shot groups, no optics, standing, with bulk ammunition the list becomes much shorter. :)

I found the accuracy difference between the usual suspects in the plinker .22 market, inconsequential.

I had a Browning SA22 back in the 70’s. Beautiful rifle with one exception, It ejects the spent (hot!) cartridge out the bottom. Wearing a jacket or long sleeve shirt in the winter it ejected the case right down my sleeve.
