That's kind of what I was thinking too. That or else it looks like the back half of an Astra Constable.
I got it! Its the S&W modernized Star Firestar Plus! Everyone remembers that classic... ha ha. To be serious.... it was a nice gun that was a victim of the AWB.

There's a couple new videos on Youtube now and gun stores have the gun in stock. In 2 videos I saw the price listed at $599.99. It's a unique new pistol, not sure it's anything I need though.

Once in a while, S&W will raises name. Could the CSX be
Chiefs Special Xternal ( hammer)

Nutnfancy's review is pretty mixed, biggest complaint is the heavy trigger pull. Thought maybe it'd be a nice cheap little 2011-ish copy, but ehhh. Not sure what question this one answers.

Looks interesting. Not a fan of Glock-style triggers, but I might consider one.

Either that is a very small hand or the gun is bigger than most of the double stack 9mm's out there. For me weight, size and caliber are much more important than round capacity in a carry gun.

I do look forwards to hearing more about the CSX though. The more competition the better in my view.

Ugh, SOA? Carry cocked and locked? Not for me thank you.

Who was asking for this? Couldn't have been many, but I'm sure there's always going to be a love for the SAO trigger among some, the grip safety of the 1911 is omitted on the CSX and the mag holds way more than the single stack 1911 does. I guess that's it, it's for people who hate strikers and polymer, but want a small 1911 with higher capacity in 9mm.

I'm not buying one, give me DA/SA and I'll think about it.

I think you nailed it. A modern style 1911 officers model in 9mm double stack. Will it be a massive hit... doubtful. Hard to satisfy the gun crowd these days. Ergos look kind of strange but I am sure S&W got those right as always.

A nice trigger pull would be the only thing a single action hammer gun has going for it in this era. If S&W put an ugly trigger with wonky movement, a false reset or two, and a pull weight worse than a good SA/DA in an SAO, they have likely made money for liquidators or aftermarket trigger suppliers at their own expense. Seems wider than necessary as well. Pity.

S&W should just have made a double stack 1911 with aluminum frame, if they wanted a SA only, light carry

My first thought.
Followed by - A 1911 trigger?

I don't see it. Looks more like a pivoting trigger like the Star it resembles and like the various dwarf SAOs that are called 1911ish but are really Starlike.

Local dealer has one or more. Maybe I will get there before they sell out. To look, not buy.

They probably wanted something smaller and Ambi as well as cheaper to manufacturer. Grip safties turn a lot of people off as well. From what I see so far it looks pretty well thought out. The trigger might just be a drop safety thing for when the pistol is hot.

Stupid name.....CSX. They should have called it Black Mamba or something else that grabs attention and is memorable. Kind of looks like a pistol Colt would try so throw a snake name on it..... The Viper Nine etc. Names are important. Do it right and the gun practically markets itself.

Yeah... tough crowd.

In the thread about the new Savage Stance there were moans of it being just another me-too boring polymer gun.

I can understand that. I am interested in a revamped Honor Guard but after a while... enough with the 9mm already! How about some 7.62x25 or better yet 44amp or 45 win mag. 9mm is great and all but lets have some variety.

I dont see this new s&w as shocking or revolutionary. Anyone who has bern around for a While knows about the Firestars and Astras. You could even equate this to a Double stack Star BM or PD (if they make a 45 version). The Stance is more revolutionary...the CSX is more old school.

I get it. But those calibers just won't sell in the same volume.
