I really am trying to figure out which of the recent 10MM guns released I want to buy. To clarify, I’m only considering buying the XDM Elite, the S&W M&P, and the Sig P320X

My criteria is a SF 10MM, optics ready, with 15+1 capacity. I have medium size hands, so I’d like something with a grip smaller then the large frame Glocks.

While I do love Glock 9MM guns, I was not a fan of my G20 and sold it, so G40 is not an option. Neither is a metal framed DA/SA or 1911.

I know these are new, so I’m not expecting much feedback, but hoping there are a few out there and have been put through the paces a bit.

I’ve only seen the XDm thus far and it’s a nice gun, but the Sig has me intrigued and the M&P doesn’t get much love but I know they have a dedicated fan base, so an thoughts from folks who’ve shot these?

Thanks! Buzz

I have the older Springfield 10mm XDM OSP 4.5” threaded barrel model. It’s a great firearm, so I would imagine the new XDM Elite is even better. I own several Springfields and I’m happy with the brand.

I"ve got very small hands and the Glock 20SF was a joy to shoot.

Having said that, I'll eventually get the S&W. I'm growing very fond of these pistols. Just gotta decide whether to get the .45 or 10mm first (truth be known, it'll probably be whichever my LGS gets in stock first! :)). Just wish the 10mm came with TFX Night Sights.

I have the S&W M&P 10mm and the SA XDm Elite, my Sig is still on order at the fun store.

Between the 2 I would recommend the S&W.
The S&W trigger was quite crunchy out of the box, after the first 100 rounds it smoothed out. I am at 300 rounds and its even better. As a reloader, this doesn't fling brass into the next zip code. I am still only using the factory sights. I plan to put a RMR on at some point.

The Springfield is an amazing pistol too. The new XDm is closer to the G29 in size (I believe it shoots better then the G29).
They are both very accurate and I have had zero malfunctions out of either.

Hope the Sig comes in soon so I can add to this post.

I had a Glock 20 for years. Sold it after buying a G29. I shot the smaller gun equally well and it could be more compact with 10 round mags but would accept 15 round mags from my G20. They were my hiking/camping guns when in bear country. I liked that I could attach a light to them while in my sleeping bag at night. But I didn't like having the gun in my sleeping bag with a round chambered and no safety. When carried in a holster I felt it was a non-issue.

Smith makes a version with a safety. I bought that version in a Compact about 2 months ago.

I shoot it MUCH better than my old Glocks, and like the option of having a safety on it the way I use it. The trigger on mine measures 4 lbs vs 6 lbs on the Glock. And that light trigger is another reason to like the safety. That is lighter than my 1911 and most people wouldn't carry a 1911 cocked with the safety off.

The taller sights are easy to pick up and if I choose I can add optics. I sold the Glock. My Smith shoots 40 S&W ammo just as well as my Glocks did. Not something I'd do a lot, but is nice to know in an emergency.

On the downside even the compact is a bit bigger than my old Glock and it only takes 15 round magazines. So far I can't find any spare magazines. Midway shows them @ $42, but are out of stock.

The POI with the Smith sights are much like Sig sights. The bullet impacts right in the center of the dot on the front sight. My Glocks impacted at the top of the front sight post. Not really a negative, just different and since I also have Sig M17 and M18 it didn't take long to adjust.

I'd be interested in the Sig, but only of they offer it with a safety like they do the M17 and M18 9mm pistols.

Since Smith is the only current option with a safety it wins by default for me.

I’m curious to see how the M&P 10mm holds up to extended use of .40 S&W. One of the reasons I’ve considered the Glock, is there are forums upon forums of people having zero issue running thousands of rounds of .40 through their Glock 10mm. And truthfully I’m more of a revolver guy than an auto guy and I really like ammo interchangeability.

The M&P definitely “feels” better to me. It also is red dot ready out of the box which interests me because that is also something new I’d like to try. I wonder if They’ll do a performance center version?

A question for you fellas, has anyone heard of the M&P being picky on ammo? And how well does it handle heavy hard cast?

Definitely going to follow this thread as I have similar questions.

10mm nut in a time warp here - the newer offerings just don't do it for me. The XD 10mm feels better than the M&P 10mm to these hands but neither screams "Take me home!" like a S&W 1076, G20 or any others already in the quiver. The Sig seems OK, but not compelling in a way.

I am also considering adding 10mm to my handgun roster. The last few years have been very good for the caliber, with models like you linked being added seemingly out of nowhere. I have handled the XDM and the S&W, and preferred the Springfield. Which surprised me because I hated how my XD45 felt in my hand. That M really does mean something. I would love for Walther to make a 10mm but I won't be holding my breath on that one.

Not a fan of XDs in general. Handled the M&P, decided it wasn't for me.

I opted to do a grip reduction on a Gen 4 G20 to take out the hump, then have it laser stippled.

That said I am eagerly awaiting the Sig p320 in 10mm. Also wouldn't mind if I could get the two-tone P220

@Mot45acp, that's a sharp looking G20! I have a gen 3 21 that's ok, but the gen 4 G20 grip change panels make a huge difference. Also, I just added the XDm 3.8" compact 10mm to the collection after shooting its big brother. I actually like the way the smaller gun fits my hand better. I've been to busy to shoot it, but I will try to make time after I return from my trip. I'm intrigued by the M&P lineup, they're good guns. I'm not against a SIG either. A PPQ in 10mm would definitely find a home here.

interesting…who did the grip reduction?

I did. Using my stove. Heat to soften, then roll on cutting board to flatten hump. Then turned it over to my LGS to laser stipple and cerakote.

Note: if done right, gen 4 and gen 5 frames can be done while maintaining original texturing. Trick is to go slow, use low heat. Gen 3s can be done, but you will have to get it stippled afterwards. The plastic is harder and and doesn't soften as thoroughly without deforming the texture if that make sense.

I like my XDM10 very much, so the Elite should be a notch nicer with its refinements.
I've shot the Gluck 20 plenty, but it's not my cup o' tea.
I haven't shot the M&P 10mm, but have had a bad experience with a 1st gen 9mm, so I'm staying away from it.
I'm a huge SIG enthusiast and enjoy the P320, so the XTen is my next logical selection...but I'll wait until SIG is done rolling out "voluntary upgrades".

I have both the Glock 20 Gen. 4 and S&W M&P 2.0. The Smith fits my little girly hands like a glove and it shoots anything from 150 grain to 220 grain (hardcast) rounds without a problem.

Have you shot much or any .40S&W in your M&P? And I understand if you haven’t, not saying everyone needs to do it. Just curious if you have.

My G20 has proved more reliable than my M&P 10. 170 rounds in and it’s developed a light strike issue. A friend bought the same version, 4.6” and the barrel wouldn’t come out the slide. The replacement had the light strike issues right out of the box.

Which makes me lean towards the G20, but then I’d be interested in getting an aftermarket slide for a red dot and aftermarket barrel for hardcast shooting. I’m torn.

I had hoped they'd have a Gen 5 .45/10mm by now, but that's Glock..lol. Hopefully S&W sorts out my 10 quickly, I really like it.
