What Would You Do If....

Good grief. I have lived in states with a substantial logging industry, while also spending a lot of time in small, rural areas and in the mountains.

I can't say I've ever seen anyone, not even a tall bearded guy in a red plaid flannel shirt, Carhartt pants, a Stihl hat wearing a pair of 10" Hoffman Loggers carrying an axe into a convenience store. Not even in Forks.

For those who say, "Could happen," and tell us they'd think nothing of someone walking into the AM/PM axe in hand in their neck of the woods, I'm just reminded somehow of an old Jeff Foxworthy show and everyone trying to one-up each other about who's the biggest redneck in the most rural area...
 
Concerning the OP question, I rarely go in C stores unless we're traveling and then I'm usually accompanied by my wife and often two or three granddaughters. Getting this herd of cats out of the store and it's restrooms quickly would be a feat indeed.
ADEE sounds good.
It is not always possible to run and hide especially when you have responsibilities to others.

True. The discussion is about "what we would do if a crazy person with an axe entered a convenience store where we were at". It's great if we can somehow ascertain for sure that the person is indeed "crazy". I was simply pointing out that the simple fact that they have an axe in their hand does not, in itself, in all cases, in all regions, automatically qualify them as "crazy". In some places, in some situations, other factors would also need to be considered. I have repeatedly said that I was not addressing the specific scenario in the video and article, but rather was making a simple comment about rural folks carrying an axe. Please re-read the bolded portion of this post.

I have been in a Lowes or TSC and bought a axe or hatchet and walked around with it for a bit. Even in that normal scenario I wasn't getting face to face with folks and acting strange.

If you live in some kind of logging town where folks just randomly carry axes around and everyone's used to it, its normalized, I'd still be weary of someone coming into a convience store with an axe in hand.

Now picture that same scenario in the suburbs or worse off the city.

I maintain that regardless of the environment in a situation like that one should have there head on a swivel, unless one doesn't care about losing it.

I agree, 100%. Never suggested otherwise.

I'm done talking about the whole carrying axes in a logging town thing. It was a simple statement of fact that was not meant to derail this thread, and yet, for some reason, some here have zeroed in on that rather than the actual subject of the thread. This is the last I'll mention it.

At the first available opportunity, of course. Odds are 99.99999% against having to do so anyway, as our little backwater gets little traffic. Even so, most on here advocate for leaving their stuff, slipping out, and calling the cops. I'd be a damn fool for wanting to go back in, I guess but I don't think I could help it.

I have the training; I just don't like carrying a pistol, unless I'm on the farm. In other words, "I said I never had much use for one. Never said I didn't know how to use it." Or whatever Quigley said.

What would I do? If I could leave without abandoning family or friends I'd head to the truck, call 911, grab a couple IFAKs and go back to help. First victim was leaking pretty bad and didn't seem to realize it. The attack took less than 5 seconds and she left immediately.

I've walked into a Circle K while wearing full chain mail armor with my helmet under my arm and a locust wood marshal's staff in hand.
My sword and dagger had sealed peace cords, of course.
No one batted an eye.
Of course, there was a Ren Faire going on in the park across the road.

Concerning actions are situational, I suppose... .

He mentioned having friends in the store in his earlier post. I imagine he's going back to help them. Of course, in that case, he would be far better served by having a handgun with him than in going to get a rifle. If something like this were to occur near where I live, I would not be leaving, unless I had my kids with me.

Right or wrong, the above would be my only reason for going back into what my gut would likely tell me is a place to avoid.

Of course, that almost goes without saying. But as I said earlier, never had much use for a handgun. Single Action Army's excepted, that is. But concealing a 4.75" 357 or 45 SAA isn't the easiest thing in the world.

No one has any use for a handgun, until they do, at which point, they often need it in a hurry.
