Standing in line... what would you do?

If with my family, get them safely out of the way and be prepared to draw and defend. If alone - not sure. Attack not directed at me so not sure drawing would be a good idea for 2 reasons. One, looks like small confined area, increased chance of innnocent bystander being hit. Two, I'm a lawyer and I know how the DA here would look at it...with no direct threat to me, and while a tough beating, no weapons used, he'd probably view it as not life threating for the poor guy. I'd likely wind up in legal hot water. The felonious attacking bastard and his "lady" would probably sue me too for some emotional distress claim. I think I'd yell and scream in an attempt to distract or stop it. If I had OC I'd use it. Shame on the 5 or 6 other men in the shop for not swarming the attacking bastard and at least trying to subdue him or stop him. I'm glad Todd Beamer and other brave souls were aboard that hijacked flight over PA and not the sheep in that video.
 
The surprise attack, disparate force, two against one and size of attacker I believe justify intervention with force, but not deadly force, initially.

Having force continuum options available is always wise, even as a civilian. Shows restarint, and understanding of the situation and the law. Keeps the criminal intent on the attacker and reinforces self defense.

Pepper spray, and lots of it, on both the attackers. My CCW if either turned on me and I was in fear of my life, but I believe one person leading the charge against the big guy might have convinced one or two others to help at that point.

I would take the first opportunity to get the hades out of there. You never know when an incident like that will escalate and you become a dead innocent bystander.

The smart ass on the cell phone should either be able to back up his own remarks or keep his mouth shut. I bet he keeps his mouth shut in the future.

If that big fat pig attacked me he would be dead.

There is no way I would risk my life to defend the idiot with the cell phone who clearly overloaded his ass with comments from his mouth, regardless of how guilty, piggish or uncivilized the woman may have been with her actions.

If I had been in the line I would have let the uncivilized woman be uncivilized. There is a saying that goes something along the lines of "never try to teach a pig manners, it wastes your time and aggravates the pig".
 
I can't see introducing a firearm into a common fistfight.

I doubt the pizza in Akron is worth fighting over.
 
Well it appears most of the sheep would just walk away or hide, I'd have to try to stop it. I'm not physically capable of taking on this guy hand to hand but a shot of OC then some .40 to follow up if required. You are stopping a felony in progress, with all the nuts out there today there is a good possibility of the guy being beaten to death.

Folks, this is a big part of what's wrong in America today, some want to blame the guy for talking on his cell phone and others are afraid to get involved. You can be a sheep, a wolf, or a sheepdog. If you carry, and are afraid to intervene to protect the innocent, then you need to think about which group you really belong to.

I wouldn't be able to live wth myself allowing that to happen and just turning my back.

Shoot until threat ceases.

You may have to defend yourself in a court of law, but could you live with yourself after the fact having done nothing. Also what happens when he gets done with that guy?
By the way the big girl went off on him not vice versa.

The only way for evil to win is for good men to do nothing.

You speak the truth. It is amazing how many sheeple live here on this forum. They have a permit, they have a gun, they then have the morale responsibility that goes with it but would rather hide behind their mothers aprons.
 
OTOH, you don't know the attacker or the 'victim', or any relationship between them. You don't know if they're strangers or rival gangmembers or if one guy was schtucking the other guy's wife/girlfriend/daughter. Now, if you see some complete disparity of force, some big fugly beating up on a skinny kid or an elder person, that's different, I suppose. It's on a case by case basis. You've got to make a judgement call. One size does not fit all.
 
I don't know about the rest of you, but being an ex-soldier, and stand up man, I could not have stood there and let that big bear beat that poor little guy down like that. It is amazing to me how many gutless cowards there are in this society today. I could see if the guy had DONE something to the crazy woman, or threatened her, whatever, but he didn't even appear to make eye contact, and she was CLEARLY unstable, spitting on manager, ect.
(She'd have probably got some spray too)

I would have done SOMETHING, and shame on those other dudes who stood there peeing on themselves while dude got beat half to death. Like I said, gutless cowards.

Let's rephrase the original question. Suppose one of you cut and run guys who won't risk your necks because it's not your business is getting the crap beat out of you.

What do you want me to do?

or unlawful deadly force he reasonably believes to be threatening the
third person he seeks to protect; and

(2) the actor reasonably believes that his intervention is immediately
necessary to protect the third person.

On the news here that fat ex-con reportedly weighed 395lbs. It looked to me he was just as comfortable throwing good punches as he was getting what he wanted in the mens prison shower.

I would do the smart thing - turn around and get the hell out of there. If I remember to call the police on my cell on my way out the door, I would, but my first priority is to get clear of the scene.

No doubt in my mind. To be blunt, I really, truly, do not care about other people. Unless the victim was a family member or a friend, he can fend for himself.

To turn the question around: Could you live with taking a beating that you could have easily avoided? How about your family, and the other people in your life who depend on you?

Also what happens when he gets done with that guy?

No permit, no gun, at least when I'm not at home. So, practically speaking, do I have to take on 395# of ex-con with my pocket knife in order to avoid being sheeple? Forgive me while I laugh.

As for moral responsibility, exactly when and where did I say that since I carry a gun*, I'm volunteering to defend every Tom, Dick, and Harry who finds himself in the same pizza joint as me? Sorry, but I ain't buying it. My only responsibility is to myself, my family, and my friends.

I'm a cop and am always armed, also carry cuffs while off. He and she would have had a face full of pistol in their faces and had he not wanted to go quietly I would have no problem shooting someone that big and threatening. This type of thing is why I wish everyone could carry concealed or open carry. I think our society would be a lot nicer that way.
 
Guys this size is why I like my 45. Being that I have severe back problems, which required surgery, I would believe a reasonable person would be in fear of great bodily harm or death since he is about twice the size of the average person. If his attack had been at me I would have defended myself by whatever means needed to stop the threat.
 
As much as I loike the idea of OC I think that using it in this case could be a problem.

1.This was a really enclosed space where I might have suffered the effects as much as he.
2. If it did not work you are already way to close to this guy.
3. After the first punch the victim was not defending himself and the possiblity of death or serious injury was there for every blow.
 
Actually, according to recent statistics the average US male weighs 190 lb. and stands 5'9". That is fat!

Need those deep penetrating FMJ's for guys like that.
 
not sure if i'd have drawn down, maybe grab onto one of those gargantuan arms. he'd have a tough time throwing a punch with an extra 260 lbs on him.
 
I'd have shot the big fat ex-con for obvious reasons. I'd have shot his girlfriend for being an obnoxious, ugly instigating sow. I'd have shot cell-phone boy for not keeping his damned mouth shut. I'd have shot all those candy-asses for standing by and doing nothing. At that point, the world should not only be a better place for them not being in it but also because there is no longer a line between me and my pizza.

IIRC, from the local reports, guy on phone called his GF to say "It's gonna be a little longer, somebody cut in line."

Line-Cutter gets into harsh words with guy on phone, and pizza joint mgr, goes outside, gets Huge Honkin' BF, who comes in & starts wailing on the cel-fone guy.
