Do I really need an AR right now

Everyone should have an AR. Since your Pistol stash is a bit low, I suggest an AR pistol.

trade it and you will wish you had it back. "Bird in the hand....."

I have 2 5.56mm AR's & 1 6.8mm SPC AR's.

I wish I had more.

It depends -- what kind of shooting do you do? I personally would never get rid of my AR, but that's jut me. If I wanted a Glock that bad I'd find something else to sell.

I fully agree. if you have one pistol you have enough. Keep the AR, save up for the pistol.

sell those 38s, get a pistol with some firepower.


EDIT: not to mention, dont sell the gun Obama wants to ban. You will feel like a fool in 2 years.

What do you want to do? Do YOU want an AR? Do YOU want a Glock and some cash?

Do YOU want it cuz its a good deal or because you want to shoot a Glock?

You do realize that your question will be answered both ways by multiple people... so, What do you have? a bunch of competing opinions...

So, since you asked.... Get the Glock, then go buy a new upper, a LPK and a stock. There ya go. That is what you should do.

I wouldn't recommend getting rid of the 38's ever. It's a great SD pistol for the dead-of-night, half-asleep-but-kill-the-BG scenario. JHP +P rounds will do the trick. If you're alert and can get a .45 or .40 in your hands, then great, but keep the 38's by your bedside.

I agree with the others that you should keep your AR and save up for the Glock. You might get seller's remorse if you send your AR baby into someone else's arms.

The best time to sell/trade an AR was a few months ago when they were in high demand/short supply and bringing a premium, when you could find one.

Now that you can pick up new ones for <$700 again, I'd say make the trade only if the Glock (+ $$$) makes more sense to you long-term that the AR you currently have (knowing that you plan to build another).

Now is a good time to buy an AR, new or used.

JMHO... but the HO of someone with three dozen AR variants who eats, sleeps, and breathes all things AR (you could say I'm a "fan" ).

drewxhawaii, I don't think we have much to worry about Obama trying to get another ban during his first term. The Dems remember what happened after the first ban in 1994. However, if he is reelected, then all bets are off.
3pairs12, I'd hang on to the AR until I got my new one built. Every home arsenal needs a meat chopper (AR,AK,M1,etc). I'd rather have an AR and 2 .38's than 2.38's, a Glock, and no EBR. Just my $0.02 worth.

An AR is what you make of it. You can use it to kill zombies/commies or just for fun. I suggest that you own one. In a SHTF scenario, it would be "easier" to find ammo for.

If you really want the glock you could just trade the upper, keep the lower and you could tack on another upper whenever you decide you want an AR again. That way you don't have to register anything because you still own the lower. For me I'd keep it, love them.

It's a must keep. You'll regret the decision immediately. Well... I would anyway.

I'd say weak. You can get good quality new AR's for that, and you can get new Colts for 250-300 more.

Trade it and use the cash to build what you want on that stripped lower.

I am in the same boat trying to decide if I want to buy my first AR. But after reading through the favorite .22 rifle thread I am thinking my savage is getting lonely without another .22 friend. But its really just going to depend on what hits me as my favorite when I get into the store.

Glock

I doubt I would ever trade an AR for any overpriced Glock unless I planned to take up competitive pistol shooting. That's about all a Glock is good for. Yeah you can fill the air with 90 gr. bullets, but if the reason for owning either the AR or the Glock is for either hunting or personal defense, it ain't a hard choice to make.

Then take the money you saved and put it with one of those 38s and buy a quality Ruger or S&W .357. Just my opinion, but I'm just not all that fond of the 9mm cartridge. Lots of rounds for folks who can't shoot straight and modern 9mms seldom jam, but if it's for personal defense and you can hit what you're aiming at, it's really no contest. And as a bonus, you still own the AR, one of the most versatile firearms anyone could hope to own.
