If this issue has been addressed before, please excuse my repeat posting. I searched for over an hour before posting this, but couldn't find a similar poll.

My question is simple, roughly what percentage of your time out in public do you carry a sidearm (concealed or open carry).

I live in a good neighborhood, and am rarely out late at night, so I realistically carry less than 25% of the time, usually only if I plan to be out late or travel in neighborhoods I don't know well.

I know there are lots of folks who carry every minute they're out in public, but I wonder how many people "selectively" carry, going out armed at some times and not at others.

the only time i am unarmed is when i am on the clock because work dosnt allow weapons :(

you will never know when you may need it, so always have it!

All day everyday. NAA mini is allways in my pocket, .38 snubbie if I'm out of the house or not at work.

Every day except at work...I work in a Federal Installation, so not allowed to carry.

My school and workplace are both littered with no-beretta signage. I would carry more often if the potential consequences of doing so didn't mean getting arrested or fired..

Absolutely whenever I am legally allowed. This includes at home. In the middle of a violent altercation is a poor time to realize you should have been carrying.

OP, I would submit that there is no such thing as a "good neighborhood". Bad guys have always existed everywhere and will always exist everywhere until the End. Just take a good look at the Tactics forum here and on other forums and read how many "Glad I was carrying" "Wish I was carrying" stories there are. I don't think I have ever seen a "Glad I was NOT carrying story" on any forum as of yet.

All of the time because I have never needed a weapon when I was standing next to an open gun safe.

Pretty much 24/7/365 unless I must enter a Criminal Protection Zone.

Note the word "must"....

'Cause if I don't "must", I don't go there.... :fire:

Regards,

my work will occasionally take me into a courthouse, post office, or public school - obviously those are 'no carry' moments for me. however, i would estimate that i am very near 98% carrying when outside of the home, and probably around 75% in home (so i don't have to finish getting dressed if i decide to go someplace on the spur of the moment).

Currently, the percentage is about 99 (not in the shower).

At home, the percentage probably remains well into the 80s. Everywhere except in prohibited places or if I plan on having a few beers.

I see your side of this. I teach high school, and so cannot carry at work. I suppose I've just never developed the habit of carrying most of the rest of the time.

In the beginning I got my CCW because my sweet, little, gentle mother (a widow who lives alone) wanted to get hers and asked me to take the class with her. I liked the idea of her carrying, so I agreed. Next thing I knew, she had talked 3 of my aunts, 2 of her friends, and 2 of my great aunts into taking the class with us. Now they all carry - very nearly all the time. As the family "gun guy" I was asked to help choose appropriate weapons. Everyone bought her own, and I "issued" S&W hammerless stainless airweights in .38 Special all around. I also began handloading a special lighter load for practice and a just-under+P load for carrying for all of them.

They all come out to the farm, have lunch, and shoot once a month or so. They shoot the lighter stuff and finish with a cylinder or two the hotter defense loads.

That started 10 years ago, and still continues. One of my aunts has since bought three more handguns and her favorite weapon to shoot - an Uzi carbine.:scrutiny:

In my neck of the woods, thugs are in significantly less danger from younger or middle-aged men than from the local chapter of the Red Hat Society. Scared, any of them would be hell on wheels.

Of course, all this pleases me immensely. :D

Same as you Kentucky Rifleman, I voted for 25 percent or less, pretty much for the same reasons.

I can't carry at work but other than that I'm carrying.

I have a brother who leaves his CCW in his truck and pockets it when he gets out somewhere he considers it be needed. Gas stations, Walmart, ect.

Pants on, gun on. I live on 55acres in farm country. Totally safe right? Well last year we had two home invasions both of them on farmsteads, not in town and two people were murdered. So nowadays I don't believe there are any totally safe areas. Do I think something might happen here? No. But you never know for sure. I get a few armed tresspassers every hunting season. This includes people who say they thought they were on some else's property to people who took off as soon as they saw me to people who said someone told them I wouldn't mind if they hunted on my property. A couple of them were quite beligerent. Things have sure changed since I was young. So yeah, all day everyday.

Please don't fool yourself into complacency (no offense intended): we simply don't know when / where we'll need our CCW. If we did, we wouldn't be at that location :)

I live in a pretty good neighborhood in Dallas (urban, not burbs). Just taking a stroll one day I had an altercation with two tweekers that started going south fast - I'll spare you the details. The point is that it was about 5:30 p.m. on a busy street in an "upscale" area.

Please carry when you can: we don't want to read about you as another statistic :) !

Thanks,
