How often do you carry?

I only carry when I am awake in places where it is legal (which eliminates hospitals, post offices, schools, and unauthorized churches). When I am asleep it is on the nightstand next to me.

I've had my CCP for probably fifteen years but, apart from when I was working downtown Seattle around that same time, I haven't really carried consistently for most of those years. In the past year I've been trying to make an effort to carry more frequently & have been doing much better, but only today I was out running errands & realized I didn't have it with me! Unfortunately I work in a facility where there is a zero tolerance for firearms, even in a locked vehicle, so that takes a chunk of the day when I can't have it with me.

Pretty much all the time. The problem I have is I live in PA but travel often the NY and VA. Can't carry through the communist states so that puts a damper on it some times. When I'm in PA - always.

I carry everyday if a P3at is considered armed. Have a G30 and SW642 but the keltec is so easy and with a laser not too difficult to hit where needed.

Thanks for the info guys. I always wonder what the point of a CCW is if you don't carry. Of course, I only really agree with my dad on a few things.

This might require a thread in Handguns, but I am thinking about a S&W 3913. Or just about any Single stack 9mm with a 4'' or less bbl. I have a Beretta Model 70 in .32ACP but that is kind of anemic for defense. Also a SIG 220 Carry looks appealing.

Mine goes on me as soon as I get out of the shower. I don't live in a bad area. Far from it in fact. But I have killed three Canebreaks and a Copperhead from August to October. I have it, why not carry it?

Big E, there are enough threads about your desire for a single-stack 9mm already, I'll just give you the executive summary:
-1- get what fits your hand, you can learn this at the rental range or through friend/family collections
-2- get what you can afford to actually practice with once in a while
-3- get what you can conceal well ALL THE TIME
-4- get a gun with the features you want (manual safety, rail, second-strike, DAO, SA, DA-SA, tactical nukes, knives, sharp sticks, whatever)

Now, here's a short list of slim 9mm makers, I'm sure I'll miss a few, someone else can add what I forgot:
Kel-Tec PF9 and PF11 -(may not be on the CA market)
Kahr (many models)
Walther (I am continually amazed at how much I like shooting my PPS)
Taurus (PT709, wants to be a Kahr or Walther PPS when it grows up)
H&K (P7) (may be over-budget due to rarity)
Hi-Point (not suitable for CC, may not be suitable for viewing or handling)

And here's the standard boilerplate advice to people new to CC:
Do not try to go cheap on your belt or holster.
You need a good holster for anything bigger than an LCP/p3at, the stuff on the wall collecting dust at the LGS generally won't do for daily carry. Once you pick a pistol, order a holster ASAP, the good ones take a while to show up. Expect to spend at least $70 on a holster, possibly more. Choose for yourself if you want leather, kydex, or a hybrid of the two, but do not get a generic fabric/neoprene holster unless you want to be replacing it frequently. If you like the leather/kydex designs, I can vouch for the CrossBreed Supertuck, if I'm wearing pants on a day off, that's what I have on, generally along with a mag carrier to balance things out.
You need a heavy-duty belt, it needs to be stiff and comfortable when tight. The belts at Wal-Mart don't do the job, the belts at Sears don't either. Some belts at a work-wear shop might, and some Amish-made ones can ... but a specifically-designed gunbelt will look best and carry best (not that looks matter if you carry IWB, your beltline should never be seen again unless you get a tuckable model). For leather, BeltMan.net seems to be the standard, I like mine and wear it most often.

When I put my belt on in the morning my holster is on and my Ruger P345 is in it. I live in Indiana so I carry everywhere, if someone, in one of those 'very safe,' no guns allowed places or stores told me to leave, I would, but have never been asked. I wear protection on trips, everywhere, even in Disneyland in Florida.

If you do not prepare, to protect yourself and your family, then you plan for yourself and your family to be victims. You can be a victim at any time and any place, even in one of those safest places on earth, 'a gun free zone,' or more truthfully, 'a criminal enterprise zone.'

Thanks bigfatdave. My dad has a Walther PPK I will try out.

Of course, the tactical nuke feature would be nice but I don't know where to get nukes and I heard they are expensive. ;)

It's nearly impossible for anyone thats not LEO or Big Brother to get a CCW in CA. I will be going to school in Boise next fall (hopefully) and if I like it up there then I will most likely stay forever.

Idaho is beautiful. All parts of the state. And we understand it's easy to get a CCW.

It will be hard not to like it! If you like matches, I know of one just north of Boise.

Well, I don't leave home without one, unless...
I'm going to be drinking.
I'm going somewhere it's illegal to carry.

I carry all the time, unless I am going to be drinking or going someplace it is illegal. Lock box secured in the truck for when I will be going into a govt. building/ hospital etc. Good advice on getting good leather. Years ago, when I carried irregularly, I noticed the discomfort of carrying the pistol. When I began carrying every day, I found I no longer noticed the weight.

Practice with the pistol you carry. I am as guilty as the next guy about wanting to shoot something I shoot really well when training, then carry something smaller. Train with what you carry, or carry what you train with. I like my double stack 1911 much more than my 642, but in the Texas summer, the 642 or LCP is what fits in the pocket of my fishing shorts.

I'd love to carry more but I travel practically every week on an airline. I'm a consultant. Sometimes I carry on weekends, but not as often as I would like.

Always.

What I'm carrying changes with the situation, but if I'm carrying doesn't, prohibitions excepted.

WIFEY - " Idaho is beautiful. All parts of the state. And we understand it's easy to get a CCW."

Yep.

Big E, if you're going to college here (Boise State?), you'll probably be living somewhere in the downtown area, as that's where the college is located. But... if you don't mind driving about 15 miles, you can find yourself right in the middle of some wild, rugged, beautiful country.

We lived in Los Angeles for nearly 36 years, moved to Boise 12 years ago, and have never regretted it a moment.

Have fun.

L.W.

Not regularly, unfortunately. I spend a lot of time in restricted places, and often it's in places where I can't even have it in the car legally.
